luvdemzeds Posted February 22, 2009 Posted February 22, 2009 Hi guys, just introduding myself.Names Col,and have been an admirer of all things z since I saw one as a teenager in 1974.Now I at last find myself finally in the position to actually consider buying one,and have been looking around for a while for a 260 2+2,has to have 4 seats so i can take my grandsons out for a spin. Have been considering a drive down to Coffs Harbour to have a look at 2+2 that is up for 12k,guy has sent photos and car looks very tidy, all usual rust areas look good, sprayed 6 years ago,and very original, has been advertised on car sales for a while. Question is,would a well sorted 2+2 be worth that sort of money? regards Col Quote
reverendzed Posted February 22, 2009 Posted February 22, 2009 Hey Col, welcome to the forums. I think a very well sorted 2+2 with Reg and RWC could easily fetch the 12K, but it would have to have upgraded carbs, immaculate interior, manual and either a low K or recon motor. If it presents right and you can be sure that it hasn't had a truck load of bog in the usual rust areas then you might be on to something. If you are looking to buy a Zed that you don't have to really work on then you are looking at the right price range. Rev. Quote
xa1973 Posted February 22, 2009 Posted February 22, 2009 Hello Mate If its been listed as you say, for a while and it has rust in the "usual places", I would be giving it closer inspection Mechanicals are relatively cheap and easy to fix, rust is a very different story if you can't do it yourself and will easily blow your pocket if it is worse than first thought, which sometimes is the case If it is in that good a condition and as previously mentioned has all the good fruit, and he wants $12k, start your offer at $8k or $9k and see how you go if you really want it Remember, something is only worth what someone is willing to pay Cheers Quote
Lynton Posted February 22, 2009 Posted February 22, 2009 A 260Z 2+2 for $12K should be all sorted out and in excellent condition but not a concourse prize winning condition a sort of get in and drive car with nice shiny duco and chrome, no cracks in the dash and no rust obviously evident, turn the key and drive home elated and no further problems other than putting your own personality stamp of improvements some acceptable modifications are 240Z SU's, extractors and electronic ignition a car sort of like mine, Lynton Quote
maddos Posted February 22, 2009 Posted February 22, 2009 That does look like a very nice original example. I was sceptical at price at first, but maybe is close to the mark. Not that I'd be offering that much like XA1973 already mentioned. But I'd say if you picked it up close to $10k would be a nice show quality car. Quote

Lynton Posted February 22, 2009 Posted February 22, 2009 I checked out carsales.com and had a look at the photos it appears a pretty honest sort of car, although it appears to be the poverty model with out air-conditioning and stereo casette, also notice an after market drivers door mirror, and not a fluted bonnet as per mid 1976/77/78 models, it also seems to not have any siver heat foil around the fuel rail and fuel lines and is missing the plastic fan shroud on the radiator is it possible it has had a front end ding in its time? Now as for mine being for sale mmmm!! something I will be thinking about since I am almost a grey nomad but $12k is a bit light for me at this stage I also purchased this car from the original middle aged lady owner back in 1989 who I am still very good friends with I could be coaxed to sell ....but it would have to be a weak moment :'( Lynton Quote
xa1973 Posted February 22, 2009 Posted February 22, 2009 LOL Well ol'mate, a grey nomad, we sound very similar in vintage Drop me a line if your thoughts wander towards an empty car space Cheers Quote
luvdemzeds Posted February 22, 2009 Author Posted February 22, 2009 Many thanks for all the advice,it really is appreciated. It seems strange that when you were young and had no money, you had to look at old rusty cars, cos that was all you could afford, and generally ended up buying what you didnt really want because it was the least rusty. Thirty odd years later, your doing the same thing[when you should know better]only difference is you end up with what you really want, and the good thing is that there are a lot of other people who have done the same thing,so it cant be wrong, can it? Thanks again, will keep you posted, regards Col Quote
Lynton Posted February 22, 2009 Posted February 22, 2009 A Zed is a bit like rearing children, make sure it has an undercover space to ZZLEEP at night!! All warm, cosy and dry checked and prepared for a weekend spirited run through the countryside and only on sunny days.....well most of the time it is like that here on the Sunshine Coast Quote
