Andrew_L26 Posted March 19, 2018 Posted March 19, 2018 Hey guys, I'm after a fibreglass vented bonet and a set of fiberglass front guards. Just looking to reduce a little weight whilst avoiding rust repairs! Not too worried if they are damaged etc as long as it's not too serious! Happy with the older front guards without the hole for the indicators however I would really prefer a vented bonnet! Located: Melbourne (happy to organise freight) Price: Negotiable Cheers, Andrew Quote
twoforty z Posted March 19, 2018 Posted March 19, 2018 You can still get these new from Alfa motorsport www.motorsportfibreglass.com.au Andrew_L26 1 Quote
gilltech Posted March 19, 2018 Posted March 19, 2018 (edited) Check out Gumtree - f/glass guards and bonnet for sale, in Caboolture South (QLD) though. They've been listed for a while, perhaps vendor might be negotiable as a result. Edited March 19, 2018 by gilltech Quote

I saw them, my only issue is that the bonnet isn't vented which is important for me as I'm going turbo so the extra heat has to go somewhere. I might see if he would sell just the guards though. Thanks guys Quote

If the bonnet isn't vented won't the air just flow out the back of the engine bay down onto the ground like the air going through the radiator does? Quote
260DET Posted March 19, 2018 Posted March 19, 2018 Proper bonnet vents are a great thing for cooling generally, hot air tends to rise so they work particularly well when the car is stopped. Quote
gilltech Posted March 20, 2018 Posted March 20, 2018 Yes I noticed that the bonnet isn't the vented type but you then have the option of installing vents in whichever style/size/arrangement you wish. Quote
Andrew_L26 Posted March 20, 2018 Author Posted March 20, 2018 Yeah, It's looking like I'm not going to be able to get the vented version! I think I might just pick up a standard one, make a mould of the vents from a steel bonnet and then make a fibreglass vent section, cut and glass the section on. I might wait a little while as I'm not in any rush and if one does come up it will save me a heap of work! PS does anyone have any experience with Alfa motorsport, their panels are extremely cheap (something like 600 for a brand new bonnet and the guards are only around 400$ each) so I'm not sure what the fitment is like etc. Cheers guys, Andrew Quote
240ZR Posted March 20, 2018 Posted March 20, 2018 Yep, I bought the front guards & bonnet for mine years ago but I insisted they leave them in the mould for a month to 6 weeks for curing to limit warpage, they turned out great. If they pull them out sooner they will warp for sure. Andrew_L26 1 Quote
Andrew_L26 Posted March 23, 2018 Author Posted March 23, 2018 Have you thought about these? Yeah, not really a fan of them. I'm wanting to keep the body as stock as possible however if I do need additional cooling on top of the factory vents I was going go with something like this. Andrew OdinZ 1 Quote
satrat z Posted March 24, 2018 Posted March 24, 2018 Hi Andrew, If the fibreglass panels are to be fitted to a road registered car, just make sure your state allows fibreglass panels for rego. I have had problems with this in NSW before. Yes I have done 2 track cars with Alfa FG panels, they are OK, but certainly not a bolt on and perfect fit that's for sure. I have used the original bonnet vents and just cut into the fiberglass bonnet to fit the vents. The heat that they release is well worth the effort. Andrew_L26 1 Quote
