C.A.R. Posted January 11, 2018 Posted January 11, 2018 You bought the wrong length rods, didn't you? Quote
mossy Posted January 11, 2018 Author Posted January 11, 2018 I don't know what your talking about gav240z 1 Quote
600Z Posted January 11, 2018 Posted January 11, 2018 How much difference is 2.8mm going to make if you use the L24 rods though? Quote
240ZR Posted January 13, 2018 Posted January 13, 2018 Actually, using L14 137mm long rods will make quite a difference! gav240z 1 Quote
Howdy Posted January 14, 2018 Posted January 14, 2018 (edited) That'd be for the LD28 crank wouldn't it? Edited January 14, 2018 by Howdy Quote
C.A.R. Posted January 17, 2018 Posted January 17, 2018 Very. And you wouldn't bother. FJ20 rods are similar length, and you can buy H-beam versions from MaxSpeeding. Quote
Administrators gav240z Posted January 17, 2018 Administrators Posted January 17, 2018 How hard is it to find L14 Rods? I have 12... but they are almost impossible to find now... Very. And you wouldn't bother. FJ20 rods are similar length, and you can buy H-beam versions from MaxSpeeding. How long are FJ20 rods? Quote
1600dave Posted January 17, 2018 Posted January 17, 2018 (edited) 140mm. Little end is 22mm rather than 21mm for L-series. And if you're really lucky, you may find a seller that will accept an epic lowball offer....... Edited January 17, 2018 by 1600dave gav240z 1 Quote

FWIW the gudgeon pin size isn't an issue, as you'd just have the forged pistons made to suit. Quote
1600dave Posted January 17, 2018 Posted January 17, 2018 (edited) Surprised and then concerned that they were either dodgy rods or a dodgy seller. When they arrived, they turned out to be Maxspeeding rods, look quite good, weigh within half a gram of each other. And yep, they'll be teamed with custom pistons for a KA24DE headed L18 (or maybe L20) Edited January 17, 2018 by 1600dave Quote
240ZR Posted January 17, 2018 Posted January 17, 2018 I've tried FJ20 rods, they're too long which places the piston pin too high (good luck finding a piston that works) & too chunky around the journals, the block needs to be recessed quite a bit to allow the crank to turn. Quote
mossy Posted January 18, 2018 Author Posted January 18, 2018 Might be time to split this thread Gav gav240z 1 Quote
PZG302 Posted February 19, 2018 Posted February 19, 2018 Pistons are pretty cheap to get made to what you require. When the last freshen up was done on my race motor, I needed new pistons as 4 out of the six had smashed ringlands. The pistons were Mitsubishi and NLA. Was surprised at the cost of getting new ones made the same from JP Pistons in Adelaide, much cheaper than I though they would be. Quote
