Panel Beating Kits Recommendations

Just wondering if anyone had any recommendations on panel beating kits. I haven't really done panel beating yet but need to start trying and making mistakes.

Leaning on the cheaper side but something that is reasonable to start out with. At the moment I quite like the following: 

 

resto supplies - $145 + delivery from NZ

 

ebay - $120

 

TT has the Toledo set for $270

 

Not sure if relevant but i'll be mainly working on the fuel filler area, like many others before me.

They also have a few other more expensive kits on sale. If you're considering spending up near $300 on the Toledo set, have a look at this similarly priced one from H&F https://www.machineryhouse.com.au/H887 . I got one of these kits a month or so back (well, work got me one plus a pile of other panel beating stuff for 25 years of service, better than a gold watch !), it's a nice bit of gear compared to my previous random collection of old hammers and dollies.

Panel beating is far more of a dark art than people recognise. Don't be fooled by the seemingly effortless skills shown on Youtube.

 

If you have no experience It might not be a bad idea to attend this course before you create more problems than you already have.

One of those kits would be good. I actually like the look of the longer handled dolly that is in the eBay kit, as I often find I am struggling to get my arm inside a door or panel. 

 

I personally think it is less about the gear, and more about the techniques as @PeterAllen mentioned. 

 

I did a quick video of my garage hack panel shaping tools last week that you may get some dodgy tips from, but a course would probably give you a heap of useful knowledge.

In the end, I bought the cheaper kit using the vip code and also got a joggler and punch. Total was over $100 so I could then use joining discount ($20 off over $100) dv20, total of $146. I'll report back on their quality once I've got them

 

The classes are a definite option, I'll have a play first and then decide.
