Hi guys,

Just after some thoughts on whether or not to put A/C into a 260Z which didn't come out with it?

I can get most of the parts pretty cheap that's all.

Hi

I have re commissioned the A/C in my for a couple reasons.

- on hot days it is no fun in traffic.

- on wet days my demister isn't the best A/C overcomes that.

- The car came with it and it seemed crazy to have it all sitting there and no benefit.

Cheers

Harmonic balancer pulley with A/C drive are getting hard to replace.
Z Car store no longer have stock and could not get one locally.
If you have this twin row balancer you'll be fine, other wise make sure you get it with the conversion gear.
You can use another harmonic balancer and add an A/C pulley which is a bit of messing around.
Mine has 13 mm fan belt for the water pump, and 16 mm vee belt for the A/C compressor.

Thanks guys for your replies and I do agree, I have it in the orange car but not in the light blue one and it's certainly nicer to drive the one with it on the hot days.

Groundhog I do have one that's on another engine I have which I would use but very good point I hadn't really thought about it until you mentioned that lol.

Quick question as I'm not near my car does anyone know if a 260z 75 model has the vacuum or non-vacuum controls?

Hi

My bus is running an L28E out of 280ZX so that motor had multi belt capacity on the balancer.

The balancer on the original L26 also had multi belt capacity due to the car having factory A/C.

My question - would the balancer off the late L26 & L28E suit the earlier single pulley engines fitted in non A/C cars ?

cheers

The OP is in Tasmania, maybe a heater would be the first priority. Seriously, does it really get hot enough there to make enough difference?

Anyone played around with the aftermarket A/C setups you can get these days for hot rods etc? Would be so nice to have electric A/C compressor but I think they really need 48v to work well.

Lol hi Richard,

And the answer is yes it does, my 260 has A/C and I use it a fair bit and not only when it's hot it's good for clearing the screen ;) it's the other way around I don't have the heater hooked up in that one because the rocker cover is pretty close to the outlet so I need to find some nice hoses with a sharp 90deg bend lol.

I know it certainly would be handy but just wondering if it's worth the hassle in doing as is a fair bit of stuffing around by the look of it.
