gilltech Posted July 10, 2015 Posted July 10, 2015 IMO you want to keep the original floors & bodywork where you can. As gav240 says the RS pressings are different, so hopefully if you do need to patch the floors you can just cut out the portions of the RS pressings you need & insert those. And the offcuts may be useful somewhere else. Well, regardless of whether you or other Zed owners like purple as a car colour or not, this thread has certainly got people interested & in helping you out. Such is the Zed community. Quote

And the offcuts may be useful somewhere else. Well, regardless of whether you or other Zed owners like purple as a car colour or not, this thread has certainly got people interested & in helping you out. Such is the Zed community. I've pulled back a bit of the sound deadener and so far I think I will just cut it out and weld in a new piece but I still have to get the rest of the deadener. I also removed the rear drums and one of them is ever so slightly cracked, it is not on the part where the shoe contacts the drum however I still think I will replace both of them. They have fins which I assume means they are still the original ones? I am quite surprised at how good condition this car is in. I thought there would be allot more to deal with. I hope I haven't spoken too soon. Also the windshield has a bullseye chip in it, I'm not sure wether it can be repaired or if the windshield has to be replaced so I'm keeping my eye out for a new one. I also painted the rear light housing back a saturn black and I think it looks fantastic, amazing what 30 minuets and a aerosol can can do More photos will come tomorrow as I finally fixed my phone and it is able to take photos without dying on me!!! <3 I would like to thank everyone for all the help so far. This community is amazing and it is so so great to know that there is many people with much more knowledge that they are willing to share. Quote
Andrew_L26 Posted July 12, 2015 Author Posted July 12, 2015 So the last few days not much has happened due to the weather however I have checked out the rear brakes again, and the shoes have plenty of meat left on them also, for some reason they were both set way too tight and both of them would prevent the car from getting moving in many circumstances. I loosened them off roughly with the little adjustment wheel but I was wondering if they need to be properly adjusted or will they adjust themselves. I've looked around but I can't find a defiant answer if they do or not. The centre console has been removed for repair (when I have some time) it is cracked around the choke leaver and I think I will make up a little bracket to bolt it to the frame otherwise the repair won't last. Planning to bleed the brakes tomorrow, rewire the fans, get a new front lightbulb and hopefully get these rear drums set up properly. Quote
Administrators gav240z Posted July 17, 2015 Administrators Posted July 17, 2015 Also, any suggestions on getting a windscreen washer pump. I will trade bobby pins and a cd featuring captain planet. Andrew_L26 Posted July 23, 2015 Author Posted July 23, 2015 So I have gone back to school :'( and obviously the time that I have to spend on the car has been limited. I have however done a few things. I removed most of the sound deadner in the floor pan and there is a bit more rust then I thought at first but manageable. I have re-wired the inspection lamp due to the switch being broken and the lack of sunlight when I get home from school. I also bought some badges they aren't in the best shape so I'm thinking of cleaning the up and sending them off to get re-chromed however the pins are broken off the back of them so I'm not sure if its worth it. I fixed the windscreen wipers and I'm going to an auto-parts store to see if I can get a cheeper alternative to the washer pump from jdm parts, 60$ including postage I also took off the drivers side fender and found the source of all my rust issues!!! (I think) The drainage pipes that run behind the fenders were both blocked with leaves and other things..... Moustache clippings I believe... anyway, the rust in the firewall is caused by that area filling up with water. I've started looking around for a new windshield, changed the fuel filter (thing was filthy) and I'm currently looking to buy some new drums (any suggestions) I also bought some corner window trim so that should arrive soon. I also fixed one of the headlights that was stuffed due to both a blown globe that was 150w and some really sketchy wiring which I sorted out with some new wire, heatshrink and a soldering iron. The thing that I'm most worried about is that the frame rales under the car are fairly dinged up from scraping, they aren't too bad but I'm a bit worried about them passing RW. I'm still struggling with my useless fabrication skills to make a bracket for the choke so I can get the centre console back in. Quote
Andrew_L26 Posted July 26, 2015 Author Posted July 26, 2015 So everything is more or less back together which is a relief as I was starting to feel that I had removed too much from the car at one time (I'm terrible with misplacing screws etc) Yesterday I fully drained the fuel tank which had a mixture of 5 year old fuel and new fuel from the previous owner and filled her up with 98 octane plus a led fuel additive and wow. I must say it has made a huge difference. Me and dad took the car out for a drive this morning around some back roads in the Seville area. The car was running beautifully after about 5 minuets of open road. There were a few things I took away from the sneaky run and those are: The steering wheel gets a decent shake at around 80km/h (I assume it is either a wheel balancing issue or the fact that the rubber bushings on the suspension components and steering are really quite worn and decaying) and that the rear brakes need further adjustment although I think I will be purchasing new drums next week some time. I have fixed the inspection light and it is now ready for my late night engine bay tampering. I have also repaired both windscreen wipers and replaced the washer pump with one from an auto parts shop $13 what a deal! The part number for that pump is: NWP500 and it was from Bursons Auto Parts (it doesn't fit perfectly but it is good enough) Anyways, here are some photos! (Anyone know what those fuse like wires are in the plastic containers (last image) There are many more photos in my google drive album, I find it much easier to upload them there. https://drive.google.com/open?id=0B-7sJCmAZ6Kafndvd1NHN1B6QnUxaTRQaEUwU0RWOGVyTXo2cWh6bldEaGdoWmw5QzNKNlU One last thing. I have made a soundtrack for this car including all the hits found on disks that were discovered earlier. If anyone is interested and can be bothered downloading here is the link: https://drive.google.com/open?id=0B-7sJCmAZ6KaNDNCWjhFd2tQeDA casho 1 Quote
Andrew_L26 Posted July 26, 2015 Author Posted July 26, 2015 Well for some reason I'm unable to upload any photos, they are all under the limits and it comes up with the error "Your attachment couldn't be saved. This might happen because it took too long to upload or the file is bigger than the server will allow. Please consult your server administrator for more information." Any ideas Gav? Quote

chris240 Posted July 26, 2015 Posted July 26, 2015 I like the pic at the servo station.. Grab a can of wd40 and just spray the entire engine bay, dont hold back... the motor and bay resembles the gibson desert ! And start to replace all the rubber and original braided heater hoses etc.. Keep up the effort. Quote

Hopefully I will get time this week to foam the entire engine and make it all clean, this will also make it easier to tell how much/where the oil is weeping from. Administrators gav240z Posted July 26, 2015 Administrators Posted July 26, 2015 Ok hopefully more space is available on the server. I'm not sure why we suddenly were showing a large disk space usage. I recently increased the photo sizes and attachment allowances but unless people have uploaded lots of new content I'm not aware of I'm not sure why we suddenly used a lot of space. Andrew_L26 Posted July 26, 2015 Author Posted July 26, 2015 One last thing, I've bought a factory S30 service manual (Nissan dealership) online and I was wondering if there would be much interest on a huge pdf of the complete manual. It would be painstaking to put it together but if there is enough interest I'm willing to put something together. Quote
Administrators gav240z Posted July 26, 2015 Administrators Posted July 26, 2015 Thanks Gav, everything seems to be working great. Last thread hijack, but as an FYI: Just sent an email to the web host about upgrading our hosting package. They sent out a promo last month and I had intended to get in contact. Anyway I'm asking a few questions, I believe it should have more space, double-CPU power and a whole host other benefits but it will cost a little more each month... So looking into it. casho 1 Quote

Hi Andrew, the 'fuse like wires' are in fact the fusible links, i.e. big fuses. Andrew_L26 Posted July 27, 2015 Author Posted July 27, 2015 Hi all, with my recent run and the general condition of the bushings (all around) I have decided to replace them, I've been looking around and I can't really find any suggestions wether urethane or rubber bushings would be more appropriate. To my knowledge rubber ones give a smother ride with more play in the whole system and urethane ones give a stiffer ride with more feedback and generally more responsive. Quote
GongZ Posted July 27, 2015 Posted July 27, 2015 I followed this advice; ... If you are replacing bushings here is a fairly recent quote for the superpro parts from them (not labor): http://www.viczcar.com/forum/index.php?topic=10883.0 A few people on the forum, mainly Lurch, seem to recommend SuperPro bushes. I remember reading on their website something about them doing extensive testing with the durability of them. If you believe most of what you read on the internet, most poly bushes tend to loose sharp or deteriorate quite quickly and the belief is that SuperPro may be a better quality. The cheap poly bushes in my 240z are rooted and they were replaced 10 years ago. May sound like a long time but it only did about 8000 mile in 7 of those years. I'm going to replace everything I can with SuperPro and then do the rest with the cheap American stuff. From memory, the Superpro bushes are harder than rubber, but have a bit more give than other brands of urethane bushes. The other thing to mention is that Superpro bushes are purple !! Edit - just saw this subsequent topic (260Z 2+2 Bush kit - Help by d3n1s) where PB260Z has posted a link to the list of 260Z Superpro bushes; Have you looked into Superpro ? http://www.superpro.com.au/find/superpro-suspension-parts-and-poly-bushings-for-nissan-260z-s30-1974-1978-/cid-999500808 Quote
Andrew_L26 Posted August 18, 2015 Author Posted August 18, 2015 So not a hell of a lot has happened since my last update however I started my first bit of body work (sort of) As many of you were aware this car came with a simply tragic spoiler and it had been crudely screwed onto the rear hatch, these holes had begun to lightly rust (nothing too bad but needed to be dealt with, so I began to take up the paint surrounding them only to find around 1mm of bog so I took some bog out, then more, then more and more. I was so ridiculously worried but I couldn't stop. Anyway, it turns out that the de-badging was not done well to say the least, it appears that someone has plug welded the holes over however not grinded back the welds and instead just built bog up around it. So after that ordeal I'm left with this decent sized patch of bare metal, currently it is covered in duck tape but that will soon change! I have decided to roughly paint some primer on it then vinyl wrap the car! I have got a 10X1.5 M roll of matte(ish) silver wrap here waiting to go on, this is only cheap stuff and may damage the paint, I'm not too worried about this because I've decided to sand back any rust bubbles, prime them and wrap over it, this way I can stop any rust in its tracks without starting a massive overhaul on the body work, before I paint and wrap the rear hatch (and maybe fenders) I would love to drill out the plug welds so I can attach the badges. If anyone happens to have the measurements of where these holes are that would be a godsend I also went into a brake shop today to see if I could order new break drums, apparently there are only 4 left in Australia and they cost $174 EACH! plus $25 freight EACH! so I have decided to look around for a cheaper deal. I assume these may have been OEM ones and thats why they are so expensive. Also got the headlights working properly after re-wiring and fitting some new plugs (thank-you Factory Service Manual ) Engine bay has been degreased and looks mint, turns out that I have a slight oil leak from the rocker cover gasket and I plan on replacing that gasket pretty soon. I managed to get the heater working fairly well after flushing the heater core, greasing the tap and sort of fixing the vacuums lines, If anyone has a diagram of how that all fits together that would be amazing. The rims have been mostly stripped as I couldn't stand them having purple accents! Anyways looks like we might be going back to "The Questionably Purple 260z" Oh and thanks to the thread "you can fix your 260Z clock" in the interior section I now have a functioning clock, I am still adjusting it slightly but all it needed was new caps! Enjoy these photos, I have since fixed up the back seat (with some neat work with vinyl tape) As always high res photos are available in my google drive https://drive.google.com/open?id=0B-7sJCmAZ6Kafndvd1NHN1B6QnUxaTRQaEUwU0RWOGVyTXo2cWh6bldEaGdoWmw5QzNKNlU Quote

Andrew_L26 Posted August 18, 2015 Author Posted August 18, 2015 Well done, nothing quite like fixing something yourself hey? Defiantly not, so much more satisfying then sending it off, most likely seriously injuring my wallet. It only cost me about 80c! Quote
Andrew_L26 Posted August 23, 2015 Author Posted August 23, 2015 (edited) This weekend I wrapped the bonnet, it was half for practice so I will probably re-do it some time now that I know what to do. Next week is the dreaded hatch. Also the new image uploader, I'm in love *_* Edited August 23, 2015 by Andrew_L26 casho 1 Quote
Moderators PB260Z Posted August 23, 2015 Moderators Posted August 23, 2015 Gidday, Looks like a good result, how hard was it to shrink the wrap around the bonnet bulge ? Cheers PB Quote
