Hi Guys,

Just wondering if anyone has the OEM Chrome trim rings that go around the headlights of the S30z?

Headlightcovers.jpg

I'm specifically looking for a pair of Chrome Trim's, I'm guessing someone probably has a pair that had the covers crack and then removed the covers and rings because they couldn't find replacement covers?

If so let me know if you have a pair and what you might want for them?

C'mon they have probably been in storage for years  :P

Hey Gavin ,good luck mate , they are had to get . Even the set on JDM parts have now sold and he was asking $1985 US for them !

Have to say though ,they do look great on the Z.

Good luck, Gav. I hope someone does have one laying around for you. I gave up and bit the bullet for a set off yahoo auctions  :'(

It completes the front end of my car so no regrets from me! Money well spent  ;D

There is a pair on Yahoo! Auctions I'm watching today, but wanted to see if there was any local. If I can get a pair I'll bring them to my tafe course and see how hard they are to replicate - maybe out of stainless steel?

PS: I've seen a couple of bargains on Yahoo! Auctions, I've seen them go for as low as $200 a pair.. with covers etc.. So it can be done!

I want to paint the bonnet on my red 72 240z flat black, as I'm thinking of giving it a Rally inspired look ;).

Gav, i have a pair of chrome trims without covers. Do you still want it?

By the way, whats the story behind this item? As in which model or year did it came with?

Hi LockLock,

Yes I'm still interested in the trims without the covers. Send me a PM?

All my Christmas' are coming at once today, first D-Hubcaps now these lol...

The headlight covers were optional in most markets, but came fitted as standard on the Fairlady Z-L and Fairlady Z432 , I'm actually not sure if they came standard on other variants at this stage but were definitely available as an option.

Nice Fairlady 240Z-L here:

I recently got a passenger foot rest for my 72 240z, installed the Rally Clock and think the headlight covers would give me the look I'm after.

Hi Gav,

if locklock falls through, I have a set of chrome rings that may come up for grabs shortly, as I may have found a full set for my own car... keep me in the loop

Cheers, J

I'm currently talking with LockLock (Justin) about buying his trim rings. Not sure if you have managed to find reproduction plastic covers or if you just bought another set that has them still?

It will be interesting to try and find a rubber gasket, and fastening hardware for these.

Apparently some differences over the years, will need to look into this.

Hi, I'm also after a set of these with the lens included but would settle for a set with the normal rubber trim edging as well.  Really having trouble sourcing a set in Australia.

Thanks!

Motorsport Auto in the US of A sells those horrid things with the rubber trims only.

The chrome set cost a fortune...

For those that are interested I have a set for sale. BRAND NEW OLD STOCK Fairlady Z headlight covers. These have never been used.  These aren't some crappy knockoffs that don't fit or aren't shaped right (like the ones on ebay from Thailand) nor are they the MSA type. These are 100% real, in perfect condition with factory boxes (tattered, at 40 years old), original Japanese instructions and mounting hardware.  These are difficult to find in almost any condition, and near impossible mint with original packaging as these are.  I looked for years and finally found a set.  Unfortunately, my car has a G nose and these just sit in my closet.

This is a rare, treasured Z relic and a MUST for anyone that loves rare, hard to find parts for their S30s or just parts collection. Yes, they are expensive. If you can find a better set for less, buy them!

The ONLY note: There is only mounting hardware for one side.  You can easily source matching brackets/screws given the REAL, OEM ones are there for reference.

Not way.  That Safari Gold 1970 is easily only of the best looking S30s left.  Absolutely beautiful!

Throw these one it, a set of mikunis, some nice old school JDM wheel and fender mirrors, it's about as good as it gets.  If you were stateside I'd try to snag it from you (trade for a Z4M Roadster? :)

For those that are interested the last new set that sold was December of lsat year for $3000+ USD.

Wow, this just shows what is potentially sitting on shelves in sheds waiting to be discovered.

Gav - you know you want them :-)

My Safari Gold car isn't finished yet, if you're looking at the start of my build thread. Those cars are examples of what I'd like it to be when finished. But thanks anyway.

Oh I want them alright, but I'm in the middle of an engine build for it. So maybe after that's finished! Although I'd honestly prefer a slightly less than perfect pair because as soon as you drive with them your gonna get bugs, rocks etc.. which will sandblast them :).

It's also too bad USD vs AUD is so poor...

Yea I saw your signature link car and was like this guy is nuts if THAT car isn't up to snuff, what is? Lol

If they were going on my car I would have them wrapped in a protective film. My Lotus Exige and BMW Z4M roadster both have clear bras and the paint is flawless underneath. Definitely a worthwhile investment on a piece like this in this condition.

I am also chasing a set of the original head light covers so if any one has a set or even parts in any condition feel free to contact me.
