Hi guys I'm a new member and I'm posting about my new and first car, a Datsun 260z 2+2.

Im almost 16 years old and i have been a car enthusiast for most of my life. It was small things like seeing my neighbours Ford Phase 2 GT that made me love muscle, classic and old school cars.

My first sight of a Datsun Zed was when i was around 11years old when i saw one drive past while i was on the bus heading to school, I instantly fell in love with it and had to find out what type of car it was and with a while of explaining to dad what it looked like he told me that it was a Datsun 240z. From then on i have put all my savings away to save up to buy one as my first car.

I wanted to sell my old XR80 Honda motorbike to get some more money towards it. This was where my passion for engines and internal combustion started after re-building that bike from the top end of the motor all the way through the frame work and tires.

This has now made me think about what i could do to my first car to make it sound, perform and look better, i think I'm jumping the gun on this because i haven't had it for long but it will be a hobby that i am committed to start getting into.

I finally got my Datsun 260z 2+2 with some help from my parents and i was completely stoked by it. I have not got my L's yet but as i live out on property i have roads i can safely drive and enjoy my new car!

The car has been upgraded to an L28 engine with twin SU Carbs and Ramflow filters.

Like i said with jumping the gun i already have plans for what i would like to do for example cleaning up the engine bay by getting all new plumbing and making it look very nice and neat, sand blasting and powder coating the valve cover and polishing the block and maybe a little while down the track converting the car to a manual transmission as well as putting a turbocharger in the car for performance.

Great looking car and great attitude! This will at least be an investment unlike buying a later model vehicle!  You will have heaps of fun, frustration and innovation as you work your way through this resto - I'm sure the forum will be a great support to you as you begin your Zed adventure.

Cheers,

Rev

Looks good, I was like you and had 2 S30z's before I could even drive them.

Full Story of which is here: http://www.viczcar.com/forum/index.php/topic,14206.0.html

All I can say is, it's not too late to get out now, while you still have money in your pocket. It's all down hill from here I'm afraid.  :)

The car looks good. Take your time research ideas before committing any $$ to changes.

You will plenty of advice within these pages.

Wish I had of had a Z for my first car. I had a 1970 Corolla KE20

My first car was a 1983 "nissan" bluebird .... Note the 1980 was still badged as a datsun.

It was yellow and was called the budgie.. I hated that colour.

Ditto first car was a Datsun!

My first car was a NZ-market-only Datsun 120Y SSS, this was in 1976.

Aqua paint was nice, sea of aqua vinyl inside not so nice. But it went like hell, easily well over the ton, much hotted over the standard 1.2 engine, very light body, intended for local track series. It had an impressive looking pair of 45mm twin-choke Dellortos which with a 240-style airbox almost dwarfed the little rocker cover.

NZ back then was full of Datsuns - numerous 120Y & 180B sedans, wagons & SSS locally assembled. Plus a number of 140J, 160J SSS & 180B SSS imports, & the odd 240K or Cedric. And the earlier 1200 & 1600 series. Just occasionally one would see a 240Z, boy they looked pretty hot compared to everything else on the road.
