I'm a 19yo from VIC. Looking to get a run down 240z to restore over a few years. Ground up resto! And hopefully one day an RB26dett if the funds are there.

0405536815 if you have one. 5k budget for the shell/frame. Doesn't need to have a motor or trans. Looking for something complete and accident free

Welcome and good luck with your plans, definatley a lot of fun to be had.

$5k should get you into the market for a decent shell.

Gidday and Welcome.

$5K isn't a bad starting point for a shell, I am sure you realise that whilst you may find accident free you most likely still have to deal with the evil rust.

Good luck with your search and post up some photos when you find a shell.

Cheers

Great contributions there bud!

Do I really need to elaborate? ???

OK

Here's another newbie who wants to buy a 240Z. That's awesome. Great to see some young guys appreciate Z's.  8)

So there's a lack of understanding on what goes into owning one of these cars, let alone modifying. "If funds allow"

"No accident damage and complete"? For $5k ???

I feel you're leading him up the path, by encouraging those thoughts.

Should we be letting newbies know what they are getting themselves in for?

Ask anyone who bought that "bargain" Z, after they found all the rust. Most wish they had of spent some extra $$$ to get a better base.

People here may remember Handsandwhich, Tom. He spend A LOT of money on his Z with over 300kW's at the wheels with and RB26DETT. No experience as to how the car drives and handles.

How did that end up?

From my recollection. I was driving on to the front straight at Phillip Island GP track. Only to be met head on with emergency response vehicles, driving to the inferno once known as Tom's beautiful Z.

My message to Brevlin would be to save up as much as possible and buy the best car you can afford. Even if that means not doing an engine conversion for a while.

You're 19. You don't really know what you want or why you want it. get a nice project and enjoy it sooner, cheaper.

$5k will buy an ok 240Z, maybe.

$10k better, $15k better again.......... See where I'm going?

Have fun and welcome  :)

He speaks the truth... and i was going to post basically the same thing as the initial post, but didn't want any more negative publicity.

Brevlin, you would be so much better off financially to get a $10k loan and buy something together and driving. I remember being 19 and I was no where near being able to restore one let-a-lone put an RB in it. :-\

Well the thread title is Dream Car Build. I think that speaks volumes about finding a 5K 240z with little rust that's straight. :).

However if I bought #150 knowing how much work it needed I'd have probably wouldn't have put a bid in. Sometimes it is good to dive in and be a little bit of an optimist/naive - being a realist never got anyone anywhere I say :).

Yes you can get a 240z for 5k, but it will need total restoration before you can even drive it. Good luck!

I appreciate the advice guys.

Buying a shell/chassis could be somewhat the 'safer' option. I know you guys are looking out for me financially, but if I was to spend 10-15k on a working 240, there is still no guarentee that it's not going to be a rust bucket.

I can weld aswell as doing most rust repairs. So if I can find a shell and see what I will really be getting myself into that is a hell of a lot safer then buying something with a shiny paint job and then discovering it needs an overhaul structurally.

Before I make a decision of price I first need to find a 240 guys haha!

So let's not flame over what I should be looking for when I am yet to find anything..if that makes sense?

I have got what you want, A complete 100% 71 240z, project car with matching # motor, with spares but it is 23 hours drive one way on the Gold Coast Take the lot for $3500.,

I drove that far for a free dog, how far would you drive for your dream car.

Talk to Jake about this, as a potential 2B race car.

You two could go in a partership on it!

Welcome Brevlin,

I bought a 240z shell for $1500 a couple of years ago and you have some good options already on this thread. With some welding skills and some patience I'm sure you will build a great car.

Sure ideally you save up the big $$ and buy a running car, but slowly accumulating parts, modifying and building is what a bunch of us have done.

Good luck mate.

Car found  ;D ;D ;D Thanks fellas.

Great news, look forward to seeing some pics  :)

No, said he only had room for 1 car, no idea why you would take 1 smashed car and a rust bucket 2+2 with you. surely you would take the car you want and the rest in parts..

He got one local.
