HELLFIRE! Posted May 26, 2009 Posted May 26, 2009 You may like them for the scenery or destination, but I like them for the twists and turns and changes in elevation all without breaking the law. My favourite stretch of road is the Chum Creek Rd between Chum creek and Toolangi. Heading north this road snakes it's way up the mountain with a seemingly endless series of 2nd and 3rd gear corners connected by short straights and two hairpins. If you can do the speed limit (100km) up (or down) this road you will be seconds from flying through the pearly gates backwards in a blaze of fire. You know a road is fun when there are warning signs for motorcyclists. So what are some of your favourites? Quote
Administrators gav240z Posted May 26, 2009 Administrators Posted May 26, 2009 ohhhh this is a great topic. I have a few. We should try and include Google Map links so people can explore them . 1. Great Ocean Road - When there's no damn camper vans in the way! 2. Black Spur http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&source=s_q&hl=en&geocode=&e=ForceExperiment&q=black+spur+rd&sll=-37.632242,145.209652&sspn=0.002787,0.006083&ie=UTF8&ll=-37.553832,145.643005&spn=0,359.221344&z=11&layer=c&cbll=-37.602341,145.63341&panoid=1xFrtZZOERfAZpCctx90hw&cbp=12,251.35,,0,0.71 3. Mount Martha Esplanade http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&source=s_q&hl=en&geocode=&e=ForceExperiment&q=mount+martha&sll=-37.553832,145.643005&sspn=0,359.221344&ie=UTF8&ll=-38.304689,144.995756&spn=0.011046,0.024333&z=16&iwloc=A&layer=c&cbll=-38.299679,144.99001&panoid=rBm5GzUZCsSyLc30w7aW6w&cbp=12,127.64,,0,-0.08 Quote
. Posted May 26, 2009 Posted May 26, 2009 I love the road up to Mt Mee from Dayboro. The best bit is it is so close to home. I have a road that might as well be around my block. It passes by Lake Samsonvale. I use it for all my test drives. Not that long but has a good mix of straights and curves to make sure my mods are working. I also found a great road from Tamworth over to Port Macquarie. The good bit lasts about an hour. Quote
luvemfast Posted May 26, 2009 Posted May 26, 2009 The drive to Noojee, for lunch at the Tool Shed or camping at Toorongo falls. Go via Launching place, once your through Powelltown the speed limit goes to 100km/h but the corners are no where near that. Then it opens up for some long windy sweeping corners that are very high speed *cough* at 100km/h that is . This is where I found out years ago that in my buddies 1600 at 80mp/h vibration's shake the whole car and it feels like its going to take off, but at 90mph+ it sits rock solid. So the moral is, drive faster to make the car handle better. I've yet to drive it in the Z though When I attach the link it only goes to the main google maps, how do I attach the map that I want? C.A.R. Posted May 27, 2009 Posted May 27, 2009 I live in West Gippsland, Vic. 2mins out of my driveway & I'm on the best roads in the state Quote
Lynton Posted May 27, 2009 Posted May 27, 2009 Well I am on the Sunshine Coast (when it's not raining) and the run to Montville and through Maleny in the Hinterland long bends, up and down hills cruizin with panoramic views back to the coast...bewdiful!!! Just missing the wind in my hair maybe I need a Datsun 2000 Fairlady Sports in the garage........mmmmmm!!! Lynton Quote

PZG302 Posted May 27, 2009 Posted May 27, 2009 I'd have to say, 5 minutes from home I'm on one of my favourites, Mt Glorious rd, through Mt Nebo and then down to Samford. Also the roads through the Gold Coast and Sunny coast hinterlands. Havinga choice of cars does spoil me for the best roads: MX5 - topless driving on crisp sunny mornings with plenty of twists and turns. XR8 Ute - over the range and the more open roads with sweeping bends and nice long straights that let you open the Boss up and stretch it's legs. Charger - well any type of road, once the resto is finished Another coupleof favourites from when I lived in Sydney: Bell's Line of Road over the mountains The road through Kangaroo Valley Royal National Park and the back road from Gosford through Mangrove Mountain and onto Wisemans Ferry. C.A.R. Posted May 27, 2009 Posted May 27, 2009 Hahaha, the infamous Mt Nebo! I've lost count of how many cars have been written off up there this year... Quote

acf321 Posted May 31, 2009 Posted May 31, 2009 Hi Guys... having been the owner of an 85 930 turbo until very recently, it was often a challenge to find places to conduct our 'skunk runs' with other fellow porsche nutters. I remember doing one once with my car and a new GT3 RS ... and frankly the outcome was pretty ridiculous.... and extremely memorable. I would never ever write where that occurred, even less on a public internet forum. Having said that ... it was and still is considered taboo to discuss where these skunk runs were conducted, particularly in writing, and even more so ... leaving a LOG of it on an internet forum .... Like you, I love to drive sports cars fast ... but by keeping an on-line log of it might end up biting us all ... ever heard of police / speed cameras / radar traps / road closures??? This forum reads like a very good place for our friends in blue to get a good start on all of us. The other 'new fad' the coppers are doing is taking cars and crushing them ... Would be a real shame for that to occur in the instance where a copper read this forum (or was alerted to it) and then decided to camp out and wait for a few fast cars to zip by.. Your thoughts Lurch ... this is pretty important stuff. If you tell everyone where you like to speed, you will be stopped, and so will the rest of us. Why spend a bomb on a sports car if you can't drive the thing? Sorry to sound like a stick in the mud, but this link is a little risky in my view. Adam. PS. a 'Skunk Run' as defined by some guys in the porsche club was a drive on public roads, where anything goes... Normally run very early or very late, normally with CB's and I even heard of one with a friendly helicopter... For the record, on the last one I did, (refer above) I beat the GT3 RS !! Quote
C.A.R. Posted May 31, 2009 Posted May 31, 2009 I know where your coming from Adam, but can you please tell me where in this discussion 'speeding on public roads' was mentioned? I think you might have read into what people have posted, a little too much mate... Quote
