  1. it's not pretty. I wonder why they ever bothered with a vinyl roof
  2. took a trip to Robertson today and took the long way down the freeway to Illawarra Hwy and up Macquarie Pass. Love that bit of road. Cops were out in force today and I'm curious to see if I get some nice surprises in the mail in the next couple of days. Anywhoo......there were only 3 Zeds at the show Very clean 240 with Tan interior and this Green Hornet with black vinyl roof...............needed a wash and one 280ZX and a powerpack Police car 202 auto Kingy!!!
  3. do you keep it on 24/7?
  4. absolutely true but even having it in the garage won't be enough to stop rust. This summer in Sydneywas really wet and you could feel how moisture laden the air was (100% humidity!). I remember one day sifting thru junk in my garage and finding rust forming on some old metal parts and made me realise if I ever do get a Z (when I win Powerball) it will have to be treated properly against rust.
  5. 55/100w once the relays are added is the way to go. 90w low beam is way too bright. I had 55/100 on a Bluebird years ago and the high beam was like turning on the sun.
  6. would have been good if you had time to see "Green Hornet"
  7. is the way it currently looks with the flares or without?
  8. I wasn't having a dig at you, the car is worth what you're asking. I just wish I could afford it.
  9. what you're saying is true, but realistically most of us aren't in a position to fork out $75k, $60k......$50k in one hit for a weekend fun thing. Restoring a 240Z may end up costing you $100k+ and the purchase of the car, but it'll generally take many years to do and spending $10k a year over 10 years is possible.....for some. Classicman I wish I had a spare $75k because I would buy it
  10. yeah I have to give that 10 out of 10. Looks great.
  11. no, he's a mechanical engineer I used to work with. He used to race a group N Cortina and the development work was done by him. So he is a true mechanical engineer.
  12. need your stock dizzy modified or rebuilt, David Andrews from Vintage Racing Developments is the person to talk. Any make or model http://www.vintageracingdevelopments.com/
  13. where, when?
  14. I've seen price for the head at U.S $32,000, then add the headers, induction, short motor etc etc and you might be up for $100k. Don't know how much the complete 420hp 3.2 OS Giken engine is but I imagine $100k. If I was loaded I'd get it but you'd never get your money back if that's a concern. So how do people say the name? O_S Giken or OS Giken (OS being one word)?
  15. about 5 or 6 years ago someone told me about this mob in Lithuania that does classic car restos. I cant remember the name and not sure if it the same mob shown here, but it was incredible. The labour cost is/was about 1/10th of here and people from all over the world were sending their cars there, everything from Austins to Zeds. They had a big crew of tradesmen with the old skills coachbuilders and the like. They also sold Z and other interior trim in leather, custom but looked very nice, not over the top. I'd totally forgotten about it 'till now.
  16. last year a bloke that lives not more than 2km from me gave me first dibbs on a 74 260Z 2 seater complete orginal but in need of restoration. I said yes and was trying to organise a time to come around but he was busy that weekend then couldn't do the friday arvo either and then just as I pull into my driveway to start the weekend all happy I'll have a Z soon I get a txt "sorry car sold" it sold on gumtree I believe for $8500
  17. give Stewart Wilkins a call. If he can't help no one can.
  18. ok so this one is 99.9999% non Z related, but a Z does appear for about 1 second. Blink and you'll miss it. Language warning https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kCXqbjo6cb0
  19. having owned a 2 seater I can tell you that the claim of low to mid 7 litres per 100kms average in that article is not possible...........ever. mine in stock form with 5 speed manual and 3.7 diff would at best do 15 litres/100km around town and about 10 on the open road. the 80 litre tank was fantastic. Often people would ask "what do you get to a tank" I'd reply "about 450km" they'd say "that's bloody good" and then I tell them I have an 80 litre tank and it wouldn't be so good. I loved the fuel gauge. It had a secondary gauge that went from 1/4 full to zero. It was so accurate that you could run down quite low. I often wondered why they just didn't make the main gauge that way and forget about the secondary
  20. if you can find one its twice the price of a 240
  21. lets look at number apart from weight. Here I'm looking at the 2 seater 280ZX 240Z - Wheelbase:2305 Width:1626 Height:1283 Drag:0467 280ZX - Wheelbase: 2320 Width: 1690 Height: 1295 Drag:0.385 so the 280ZX 2 seater has 15mm longer wheelbase, width/track is 64mm wider, slightly higher and is more aerodynamic. The downside: about 200kg more weight and the semi trailing arm rear suspension The upside: A more stable high speed cruiser. More comfortable and easier to drive. when I was younger and slightly more foolish I had my 280ZX 2 seater on the freeway down to Wollongong with a mate when they use to have the speed indicators on the freeway. I went thru and it indicated 196km/h when the engine was stock. It was rock solid on the road and if the motor had more I would have pushed it harder. My mate was surprised. I was going to do the speed run when I had my engine worked, but by then the speed indicators had been removed and I can understand why.
  22. 1000 apologies!
  23. Aussie film from 1987 with the late John Blake poor Z bites the dust at 4:50 Aussie films were the best. Real engine noise, real burnouts. No screeching tyres on gravel like Yankee TV shows. Watch till the end great burnout by the XY.
