  2. Thanks Andy. Pic of my ad was of a panel plucked off the net. Mine is waay worse than that. Let me know when you get yours and we will go from there. Cheers Martin
  3. Not sure of the name of it but the metal panel that houses the indicator. Getting ready to paint panels and this one is worse than I remember... Anyone have a decent one they'd be happy to sell? Cheers
  4. Funnily enough this afternoon's job was to strip my hatch for painting. Glass is 4mm thick.
  5. I'll take it if it's not taken already! Pm sent
  6. So got the 260z xmember off Garvice and they do bolt straight on to the 240z. Only difference I could see was the extra strengthening around the steering rack front mounts, as in pic.
  7. Yup, got one here. It's yours for a donation to this site and postage. All good? Pm me your mobile. Cheers Martin
  8. Hope the holidays are finding you all well and spanner are finding projects... As per the title I'm chasing the front cross member for a 71 240z. I just need the bare centre pressed metal section, not arms, steering or suspension. Not sure if the 260 items are the same or not, perhaps someone can let me know? Pls let me know if there's one out there someone wants to sell. Cheers Martin
  9. Hi Antony post a pic and I might have one from a 280zx engine I stripped. Cheers
  10. Welcome North, Rev. Where on the Goldie are you settling? I'll see you for those bearings (and a chat) early in the new year.
  11. Hi Scott where did you book your visit to Zama? I'm there in March and would love to get in there.
  12. Pm sent re rear wheel bearing kit Cheers Martin
  13. Hi Jason/all Here are the dimensions of the cam lobe. Quite a bit smaller than stock!
  14. Thanks for the info, Jason. Will measure cam later today. Looks like the cam's re ground rather than welded? When I put the head back on, do I time-up as per normal on an std L28 and what in and ex valve clearances would you suggest? Thanks again Martin
  15. After finishing the bottom end rebuild, I'm now looking at which N42 head to bolt on top. One is completely standard but the other has th following mods; Head skimmed by 0.9mm Cam towers shimmed by two 0.01 gaskets ( front and rear towers), no gasket in the middle tower and one on the others An E30 cam with CE674A and 110 degree ( well the symbol for it anyway) stamped into the end of it Standard 1.2mm head gasket, rocker arm adjusting screws have about 10mm of thread visible. Does anyone know what the number relates to ( did a search and nothing came up) and what sort of grind the cam has? It's a street car on SUs and extractors. When I dismantled the engine, all six of the top piston rings were cracked. Was told that was likely due to detonation. Does that make sense and is that a timing fuel error or something else? There were no marks on the valves or piston crowns. All help appreciated Cheers
  16. Thanks Linton Looks like I'll need to punch the two extra cooling holes in the gasket, even though both engines had them covered by their gaskets. Weird, eh?
  17. Hi all So just in the process of rebuilding my L28 (F54/N42) and am looking for the correct standard head gasket. Now the one that came off the engine covered two water passages from block to head (between cylinders two and three and also five and Six on the distributor side of the block). Not sure if this was the original or not or how the engine ran before I got it, tho it wasn't sezied or are there any signs of heat distortion. I've googled images of all the L28 gaskets and none seem to have this hole in them. I know there are a few areas where the head and block don't have the same holes so I'm not concerned about them. Just want to know if blocking two water holes is going to be a problem or is that fairly standard? Thanks in advance Martin
  18. Hi cracker Registering interest in the SU carbs. Pm sent Cheers
  19. Hi Batesy I've just taken one off an engine - have plate, spacer and bolts ready to go. Pm sent
  20. Thanks for that, will go with the F54 block.
  21. Evening gents & ladies I'm just about to rebuild an L28 engine and am lucky enough to have two complete engines to choose from. The first is the F54/N42 and the other is N42/N42. Both are standard. Just want the best one for a road engine running extractors, maybe a cam and SUs. Also, is there any info on what year the engines are by referring to the engine number? IE a table that says a number falling within a certain range is a xxxx year and so on? Any help will assist with ordering parts and picking the right block. Also, any recommended places for gasket sets, rings and bearings? Cheers Martin
  22. Hi all Close neighbour of mine has just set off on a decent journey from the Goldie to drive the Great Ocean Road. Pretty big call when you're 80 and your car is 40 years old. Have signed him up here so his intro will be up soon. He's been driving the car everyday since buying it in 1990 and is as solid a Z enthusiast as I've ever met. So if you see the silver fox on the coast road between here and there, give him a honk and a wave (just incase he doesn't hear the horn...). Pic is of 6am coffee stop to see him off in Coolangatta this morning. Drive safe mate and have an epic adventure.
  23. My house is such a building site at the mo that I can't get to my spare diff to see what that ratio is. Will hold off on that till I get a chance to ferret to the depths of the shed...
  24. Hey Z I'll take the tension rods and bushes. Pm sent Cheers
  25. Going up on Sat Peter just to have a look and see.
