It seems that the price increase of S30's is causing significant scraping of the bottom of the barrel. -

It is a bit rough but from what I see for sale well and truly restorable. The car is in central Queensland I will help with loading freighting the car and may even deliver for a fee. The car has pretty well all its mechanicals minus the engine. Carbies and manifold are there but carbies will need restoring. Gearbox and diff are still in the car. Dash and all instruments are still in the car. Left front guard, front seats and bumpers are missing It has no side Glass and a leaky sunroof with a cracked Perspex panel so it has very rusty floors. Has some rust in the plenum area because it was full of leaves. Rust under the battery. Fatigue crack in left front frame rail. Left door pretty good rust wise. Right door has bubbles in the skin but the frame looks ok in the door opening. No rust that is clearly obvious in the roof. A few pin holes along the rear of the hatch door. Has had a swipe right hand front and the guard replaced with impact damage that is not obvious with the guard on still under the guard." Anybody recognise strange-looking pillar emblem? -

The car was partly dismantled ready to be sent off for rust repair but will be put back together to make it easier for transportation for the sale. I have been quoted 4K for the rust repair not including blasting. It was commented on the fact the rust is not to bad for an Old school Jap Car just a few key spots and a bit of surface rust. The Key spots are On the main body Inner Doors both sides (see photo), Fuel filler area, Passengers side rear light corner (dented), Behind part of lower Radiator support. The guards have rust holes as seen in the pictures and the bonnet has a small rust hole where the badge goes. and the scuttle panel has a small hole. The rest is just surface rust Original engine 2600L with Manual I am currently working away so am limited to the photos and info i can post at the moment will update when I get more." -

Hello Metho, and good luck with the sale. Your photo doesn't show all of the compliance plate, but your build plate shows HS30-10745 and original engine no. L24-084614 The WA Z register lists HS30-10646 (original engine no. L24-082605) as a 2/1972 complianced car and HS30-10763 (original engine no. L24-085261) as 3/1972. It is therefore safe to assume that your car would be considered a '72. http://wazregister.com/index.php?title=View_ANZIS30_Register

I was referring to the Australian market. Australian delivered 1970 - 1972 240Z's were fitted with clear lenses and single, dual filament parking/blinker bulbs. The ADR's require all cars from 1 January 1973 onwards to have amber front turn signals - which is why the European style bumper mounted amber turn signals were used on our 1973 240Z's. My late '73 240Z has the front blinkers on top of the bumper and the lower housings have clear lenses with single bulbs for the the parking lights. The reason I pointed this matter out is that, as it stands, Paul's car may not have front parking lights. This could be addressed by using headlights with parking light sockets built in.
-
Well done on the garage build - very innovative. I notice that you seem to have 240Z front turn signal assemblies. The front turn signals for a 260Z (all 260Z's I think) have a part clear (parking light) and part amber (turn signal) lens and use two separate bulbs. The turn signal wiring harnesses therefore have 3 wires and use a 3-pin (2-pin for 240Z) connectors.

PeterH has just sent me a photo of a page in the Factory workshop manual stating that the rheostat has a resistance range of 0 to 10 Ohms.
-
If someone has a 240 dimmer rheostat, or currently has the dash out of the car - could you please measure the minimum and maximum resistance of the rheostat for me?

Datsun 240Z Fairlady Z Manual Batemans Bay, NSW, Australia Current bid:AU $1,075.00 Auction ends Thursday 01 Feb, 2018 20:03:16 AEDST https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/323020974316?ul_noapp=true "Interesting early build HS30 car with original matching number engine. After sitting since 1989 only 87,700 miles recorded. Engine still in good running order. Original flange gearbox, driveshaft and diff. Has Australian compliance plate from 7/71. Engine number matches manufacturer plate and plate matches firewall stamping. VIN indicates car is HS30 build number 615. Body badges say 'Fairlady Z' and grille is black plastic egg-crate style, not metal 240Z style. A spare 240Z metal grille is included in sale as well. Engine has original SU style carbs, air cleaner and the coveted E31 cylinder head. Many parts are missing. Included parts are shown in photos. Engine appears and sounds unmodified. A set of used headers is included. 260Z mags are fitted. A straight, rust-free hood punched with louvres is included. Every panel on this car has rust - some of it severe. The hatch opening area above tail lights is not bad, and the hinge area looks OK too. There is no sunroof, but rust is in the roof. Floors, frame rails, radiator support, sills and firewall all need major repair/replacement. Doors open and close, but need major work. Glass for both doors is included but window regulators are missing. The second door glass was found after photos were taken. 'Fairlady Z' emblems are pitted and have some broken studs. Tailight lenses are usable. Mechanical parts look in condition consistent with 87,000 miles. Brake booster and master cylinder found since photos taken. Diamond pattern original interior lining is mostly present. Call it Fairlady Z or 240Z, this is a desirable early manual transmission RHD car with an Australian compliance plate. A good investment when restored, with original engine. Colour was metallic blue with black trim. Several parts, including heater, not shown in photos will be supplied, along with ignition key. A trailer will be needed for pickup. Car located in Batemans Bay NSW. Thank you for looking at my listing" -
Hi Youhan, I think you need to clarify a couple of things. Do you mean 3/8" (9.5mm) inside or outside diameter maybe? The standard fuel supply hard line is 5/16" (8mm) outside diameter. The wall thickness would be 0.7mm to 1.0mm - therefore an inside diameter of 6.0mm to 6.6mm. Are you talking about enlarging the opening in the car body for the transmission lever? If so, look at this post from Six_Shooter http://www.viczcar.com/forum/topic/1378-step-by-step-how-to-auto-to-manual-conversion/page-3?do=findComment&comment=157702

"HS30 00415 Colour: 907 Green originally. Repainted 905 red. Previously owned by Stavros240, sold on to Smugley who sold it to a guy named Rex, who is selling again. Info from Stavros." I just watched the "Porsche, Datsun and Ferrari? Barnfind" Youtube video byHome Built By Jeff. As of late December 2017 this car is with Zac. Skip to 3m28s.

Yes, the 240Z brake lines (and the clutch hard line) are 3/16" (4.75mm) outside diameter. The fuel supply line is 5/16" (8mm) outside diameter. I would imagine that the brake lines are the same size on 260Z's and 280ZX's as well - it seems to be a very common size across all car makes.
