  1. Australian delivered cars did not have the door jamb plate - so I assume it was just US - or maybe I should say LHD cars.
  2. The VIN number inside the windshield was just one location on the US cars; http://www.answers.com/Q/Where_is_the_vin_on_a_1970_240z
  3. Hi locklock, Where did you get the photos from? Did you go to ZCon 2015? *Edit* I just found 175 photos here; https://www.flickr.com/photos/stevej260z/albums/72157656047516861/page1 I notice that the silver twin turbo RB powered S30 (half way through page 1) is RHD - does anybody here know of this car?
  4. Yes, the number on US cars is inside the windscreen on the driver's (left) side. I assume that this was a requirement when the S30 were sold in the US market, similar to the current rules. The Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards and Regulations - Part 565 - Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) Content Requirements, states; "(f) The VIN for passenger cars, multipurpose passenger vehicles, low speed vehicles, and trucks of 4536 kg or less GVWR shall be located inside the passenger compartment. It shall be readable, without moving any part of the vehicle, through the vehicle glazing under daylight lighting conditions by an observer having 20/20 vision (Snellen) whose eye-point is located outside the vehicle adjacent to the left windshield pillar. Each character in the VIN subject to this paragraph shall have a minimum height of 4 mm."
  5. Its looking good Gavin. I am really looking forward to seeing it go live.
  6. Thank you John (Sirpent) and HS30-H - that is very interesting. I would love to know where you read about the "diverted" cars if you or anybody else can recall.
  7. Does anybody know what this sticker (located above the Nissan build plate on my car) means? My 240Z (HS30-103724) has a 9/73 compliance plate and is on the WA register.
  8. This topic is similar to; "Chassis Number Bingo" started on May 08, 2015 by HS30-H http://www.viczcar.com/forum/index.php/topic,15973.0.html You will see that the existing WA Z car register is discussed there, as well as Gavin suggesting that he may negotiate to move (or duplicate?) the register to this site.
  9. This isn't an S30 either - but I remember when they were new and they still look gorgeous. Like the Z, their design has stood up to the test of time better than most others. "...car is in shipment to Germany currently ! Restoration - Project Nissan Silvia CSP 311 absolute rare Japanese car only 554 hase been produced ( handmade ) from 1965-1968 ... the car is nearly complete missing parts : hubcaps fender banches** ( Nissan Silvia ) seats are non original ( Datsun 240 Z ) headlights - bezel" ** "fender banches" must mean fender badges. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Datsun-Coupe-Silvia-CSP311-/201387784323?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_3&hash=item2ee3a5b883 eBay item number:201387784323 The (buy it now) price is £19,600.00 (currently = AU$41,575) There was a metallic green Silvia like the second photo that I saw numerous times in the late 60's in Melbourne.
  10. At 12:25pm this auction was up to $3,605 (14 bids) and the reserve had not been met. When I checked again at 1:30pm, - "This listing was ended by the seller because the item is no longer available" **Edit - Oops, I posted this in the wrong thread - sorry
  11. If you look at the "About Me" page it states; "I have owned 57 Z’s over the years including 240z’s, 280z’s, 280zx’s and 300zx’s. My collection obsession included parts cars and race cars. My shop is full of parts and cars from all of these generations of the most popular sports car ever sold... These days I dismantle and restore Z’s with my concentration on the 1st generation 300zx models (Z31)... So I am offering parts, cars, and memorabilia for sale through this site for all who have caught the Z bug like I have."
  12. Individual Throttle Body set up; http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/6-throttle-body-setup-itb-for-L24-L26-L28-240z-260z-280zx-/261966948586?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_15&fits=Model%3A240+Z&hash=item3cfe7268ea eBay item number 261966948586 "Custom made 6 throttle body setup with megasquirt ems pro to suit Nissan/Datsun L24 L26 L28 240z 260z 280zx etc. I made this setup awhile ago now and it consists of 6x 04' GSXR throttle bodies, (42mm from memory) 300cc injectors, custom manifold with tapered tubes, custom plenum chamber (has a small dent that can be tapped out) with internal trumpets/velocity stacks, sard FPR with gauge, vacuum tank for brakes (all 6 runners), 3" front pipe for airfilter (airfilter not incl), also comes with an EMS PRO megasquirt fully programmable ECU (loom, sensors etc) that has a very rough tune but needs more time spent to get right, the ecu is setup for fuel only but can easily be setup for ignition control by flicking a few switches on side of unit (look up EMS PRO on Google for more info). vehicle ran ok on setup and had very good throttle response and sounded unbelievable but needs more tuning to get right. I am only selling due to wanting to put an RB25 into my 260z otherwise I would get it dyno tuned with this setup. Has all been removed from vehicle and stock carbs put in place for the meantime. CASH ONLY unless you want to pay PAYPAL fees, pickup and viewing prior to auction end available on request." Starting bid $1,000 - no reserve Auction ends - Friday 24 Jul, 2015 15:35:12 AEST

  14. Very nice Des! It looks like a "Just finished" photo - or maybe a "for sale $40,000" photo.
  15. I hope you don't end up spending as much on the restoration as the subject of this topic suggests!
  16. eBay auction ending 15 Jul, 2015 14:04:37 AEST. Car is located in Silverwater NSW. Datsun 260z Sports (1977) 2D Coupe - unfinished project with VK45 Infinity V8 engine and a 350Z 6 speed transmission; http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Datsun-260z-Sports-1977-2D-Coupe-5-SP-Manual-2-6L-Twin-Carb-/261959390579?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_15&hash=item3cfdff1573 "I have a 1975 Datsun 260Z coupe up for sale. It is a project I have been working on for a little while, but am now unable to complete due to relocation. As you can see in the pictures it has been partially diassembled. I have stripped the paint in the engine bay and removed all the clips and such in the bay in preparation for paint, just needs the holes welded up etc. I've also installed weld in adjustable camber tops. My intention was to install a VK45 Infinity V8 engine and a 350Z 6 speed transmission, both which come with the package, and can be seen in the pics. I have fitted a VK to 350Z transmission convertion plate, and a 350Z starter motor and 350Z new clutch kit. The body is in good condition, apart from a rust hole in the front left corner and a smaller combo of holes in the same place on the right hand side. Other than that, the rest of the car is in good shape. I've removed most of the surface rust elsewhere. Most parts are there and will come with the car. Missing parts are the left side front guard (had a big rust hole in it), bonnet and wheels. Car and parts are located in Silverwater if anyone wants to view."
  17. Hmmmm - I just checked eBay again and the L28 + gearbox listing had been cancelled, with the explanation; "This listing was ended by the seller because there was an error in the listing."

  19. Hello again locklock, How about some photos of, and information about your 240Z?
  20. Hello and welcome locklock, You list your 240Z as being a 1972 and its number as being HS30-001503. Looking at the WA Z register (http://wazregister.com/index.php?title=View_ANZIS30_Register_Cars), which does have some obvious inaccuracies, suggests that it would be a late 1971. The register lists both HS30-01436 and HS30-01549 (note the missing leading zero in each number) as being 10/1971 - which would be when their Australian Compliance plates were issued. Is your 240Z a UK delivered car too?
  21. Have a look at these posts/threads; The most recent topic is this one; http://www.viczcar.com/forum/index.php?topic=15431.0 This topic discusses cold air boxes including some retail versions that are available from manufacturers such as TWM (and their shortcomings). It also shows photos of 260Coupe's (Alan's) air box, which I believe is from a Prince Skyline GT-B (modified to fit); http://www.viczcar.com/forum/index.php/topic,9061.15.html A post featuring Les Brennan's transparent perspex set up; http://www.viczcar.com/forum/index.php?topic=10246.0 Scoota G's cold air box made from a rocker cover; http://www.viczcar.com/forum/index.php/topic,3183.0.html
  22. So Classicman, I guess the answer to your original question is; Yes - you are reinventing the wheel. :'(
  23. LHD cars have the handbrake lever on the same (right) side of the transmission tunnel as RHD cars. Why would the LHD Z store handbrake boots be different?
  24. As far as I know - no Australian 240Z ever had indicator or side marker lights in the front guard sides. This seems to be a unique feature of the Australian cars and I have always wondered why they would have been deleted for our market alone.
  25. My Australian delivered 1973 240Z and others (including some 1972 and overseas models) that I have seen, have the front indicators mounted ABOVE the front bumper, and they do not have over-riders on the front. The same arrangement seems to have been used on some (early?) 260Z's. I have also seen photos of cars with the indicators below the bumper (like the yellow 1972 UK 240Z below), and assumed that some/all had the indicators moved for aesthetic reasons.
