Australian Bureau Of Statistics - Motor Vehicle Census, Australia
GongZ replied to GongZ's topic in General Discussions
I have serious doubts about the data too. As I said, the information about Datsun 1600's is obviously wacky, and casts doubt over all the other numbers. Unfortunately there doesn't seem to be any other source for this kind of information. -

Yes Gavin, it has been keeping me quiet and driving me slightly more insane. If anybody would like to download the software and data to check my figures - be my guest! And yes, the data shows 20 1970 240z's with full road rego in 2012. 7 were in NSW and 4 each in Victoria and Queensland. There were 2 in WA and one each in Tas, ACT & SA. Collectors like Graham in WA may have significantly affected the numbers since then however. -

It is a very nice example - are we all keeping the $50,000 asking price a secret from somebody who must be obeyed? - oops -
I have already had one turn at hijacking this thread - so I have started a new topic to reply to Peter's post- Australian Bureau Of Statistics - Motor Vehicle Census, Australiahttp://www.viczcar.com/forum/topic/14300-australian-bureau-of-statistics-motor-vehicle-census-australia/?p=170249

This topic has been started in response to this post - http://www.viczcar.com/forum/topic/14251-back-into-it/ Post #20 A few years ago I was looking for this kind of information for the Australian market. I discovered that the Australian Bureau of Statistics had collected some data and called it the 'Motor Vehicle Census, Australia'. Unfortunately the data was not presented as a simple chart like the English one that Peter posted. To access the data, you have to download and install a piece of software called SuperTABLE, then download and decompress the data files for each year. In short, it is a real pain and it takes ages! The data covers all vehicle makes and models, so you need to laboriously filter it to produce results for specific cars. Remember that these numbers are for registered cars only, and I assume that cars with Historic/Club registration are not included. This page gives some information about the scope of the Census - http://www.abs.gov.au/AUSSTATS/abs@.nsf/Lookup/9309.0Explanatory%20Notes131%20Jan%202015?OpenDocument The only years (that I can find at least) where the make and model numbers can be extracted are 2001 through to 2012. The model years for the cars covered are listed as 1961-1970, 1970-1980 and 1980-1989. Where applicable - I have shown these dates. I have processed the numbers for the following models; Datsun 240Z - 1970 + 1971-onwards Datsun 260Z - there is no distinction in the data between 2 seaters and 2+2's Datsun 280ZX - up to 1979 + 1980-onwards Datsun 240K - I included these because of their close relationship to the S30. Datsun 1600 - The 1600's are quite popular stablemates for S30's and lots of members here are owners/fans (note - this would include all variants such as 2 doors and wagons). There is something weird going on with the data for the 1600's - they seem to have hardly existed outside Queensland in until about 2006. This maybe because they were not listed as 1600's in the other states at the time - I don't know what the explanation would be, but obviously something went wrong. Datsun 1000 - This is a personal favourite because my mother bought one new ($1,835!!) in 1968 and it was the car I used when learning to drive. Note that the numbers given below would include 4-doors sedans, and 2-door sedans, wagons, coupes and utes. So , without further ado .... Datsun 240Z Datsun 260Z Datsun 280ZX Datsun 240K Datsun 1600 Datsun 1000

Congratulations, the car is looking absolutely immaculate. Can you tell us whether or not the cost remained under $20K? If it did - that is impressive!

The grey was used on the tail light panel, the hubcaps and the grille - will your grille be painted black?

Hi George, It sounds like a great trip and your photos show some very nice looking cars. The progress on your car sounds 'solid'. Don't worry about the destruction of some of the aspects of number 19 - keep scanning eBay - I am sure somebody must sell "musty damp rusty smell" in-a-can now or hopefully soon. Edit - The orange (Kalahari Tan?) 240Z in your photo looks like an 'early girl' - do you know anything more about it?
-
Thanks for the link Craig - some great info there!

Hi again Simestime, Thank you very much for answering my queries so thoroughly. That is a really good summary of the process and the costs involved. I have been planning my shed and this has been an excellent insight to the process. Now I just need a missus to help me and it should be plain sailing. Hopefully others will find this topic (or maybe it should be split off.copied into a new topic on "Shed Building"?) - there must be others on this forum who would also love to build a "Zed shed". Afterthought: - Did you include a sum for drainage works in your overall estimate of around $10K?
-
Hi Simestime, Thanks for that info - it's all very interesting, especially the issues you had. Was it $2,000 just for the concrete - or did that include reo? Did you put the frame up on your own, or did you have a helper or two? Any idea how many man hours it took to put the kit together? When you say "The top capping had to be cut and notched on every rib" - do you mean the ridge capping? That would be about 80 notches! I look forward to the photos. Thanks again.
-
Thanks Peter - that was interesting

This may seem like an odd request, but could you add a few photos and some details about your shed please?
-
It looks like it was a great day yet again. Can somebody please post up a list of the trophy winners?

Sorry to hear that Peter - I hope you can get past this soon and make a nice video for George. You might find a wider audience by posting in the parts wanted category. Try sending 24Ozed a PM - he logged on here yesterday and may still have one for sale (albeit in Adelaide). http://www.viczcar.com/forum/topic/10796-factory-ecus-x2-suit-l28-efi-nissan-datsun/ There is also one in Victoria for sale on eBay for $159.90 (free postage) http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/NISSAN-DATSUN-280ZX-280-ENGINE-ECU-COMPUTER-A11-000-451-L28-ENGINE-GEN-PARTS-c-/291430699716

Hi Mark, Just a quick question; What month is stamped on the compliance plate of this car? Peter's car (HS30-103779) is 9/73, as is mine (HS30-103724), but Gareth's car (HS30-103771) is 11/73.

If it doesn't sell before it will go with the car) Triple 40mm dellorto carbs with k&n filters Z store extractors and 2 1/2" straight through with hotdog T3 front and rear strut brace and C pillar brace. 350z seats (needs mod plating) Nardi deep classic wheel 15" sport max wheels Box of assorted spares. Starter motor. And alternator. Currently the tachometer & temp/fuel and amp gauges are not working. Few rust spots in floor have been cut out. But personally would be best off with new floor pans Heater box and controls have been removed and are boxed. Also have left over rubber kit too. Relay upgrade for the headlights have been wired in and are 10 times better than factor. Wiper motor is a little sad and slow Doors have been reskinned and new door cards fitted Rust bubble on RHS Quarter near front bumper. Few things minor things I've probably missed" -
