  1. Thanks blokes
  2. Apparently the same from 240's to Z31's, the aftermarket ones under different brands have a grease nipple, their boots last no time at all. Source for a different aftermarket one with no grease nipple or genuine if they are available?
  3. Yes Jason, still not a bad idea to make sure though. But I admit, you know all about this stuff, I don't
  4. The US got 4 speed boxes didn't they? Does the OP want a 4 or 5 speed? Going to be difficult to source any complete box from here because of the shipping problem, surely there must be importers in the US.
  5. Wheels, what a PITA. Anyway have ordered a set of 18x10's, that size dictated by the biggest 18" 275/35 Hankook semi slicks available. After a lot of research I decided on Koya's because they custom fit them to your offset etc requirements, they are light and well priced. Fit at the back should be OK with a bit of guard rolling, the front may take a bit more work than that. Pic is of the MCA race car.
  6. Will have to be sent to Warwick, 4370, just pop it in a plastic bag like Aussie Post sell and post it. PM best.
  7. The hardest part is done, I now have a left and a right trailing arm finished. They are set up to accept two lateral links and a coilover each side all rod ended, even the coilover botton end. Work has started on chassis brackets to accept the inner lateral links ends, have some nice swaged aluminium radius rods made for speed cars of some sort which are getting modded as suitable lateral links, with L and R threaded rod ends it's all adjustable by simply rotating the links. Could go on about the numerous design changes, fabricated parts that didn't work out, the difficulty in getting both sides the same but pfft, I know what the fans want, pics!!!!
  8. Banned!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  9. Sounds like some spark plug reading is in order.
  10. Uh oh, Gav has missed out on another workshop/showroom/residential complex
  11. Heavier in the front for a race car for sure, MCA really know their s**t but just make sure they know you are talking about a road car. Assuming that yours is a road car of course.
  12. If you don't get a full response then it's not too hard to work out what your track is, if you know what the offset of the stock wheels is.
  13. Not sure that setup would work on a tarmac competition Datsun due to flex around the front axle which is none too sturdy, would prefer using the diff pinion flange myself. Should be OK for road use though I guess. The BMW idea of a larger hollow front axle is far superior but there is not much we can do about the Datsun I guess except put a spacer between the two front bearings.
  14. Seeing that the wheelbase is short it follows that caster has been reduced which no sensible person would ever do with a S30. Increase caster, yes.
  15. Ooops, should have said no one with a fast car goes through turn 1 flat.
  16. No one goes through turn 1 at EC flat you stirrers So what do I do? Stop work on the project car and fix up the 280ZX? We'll see but sprints are on there regularly. Sounds like there are not many takers for these Nats from Q, maybe Challenge Bathurst is the new nationals.
  17. Me a gun driver? Lol, nah, my next Bathurst ambition is with the Z behaving itself to go through the Kink flat, without lifting. Might add though that the more powerful the car the more of a challenge it is to drive.
  18. Nothing beats the racing you used to do Jason, in those old putt putt cars that would get owned by any decent road car these days
  19. Thanks for the info Dave, 8 to 10 minutes is good as it's basically time attack not racing.
  20. Looks like an interesting project, just a restoration or more than that?
  21. Why not contact the people on Gumtree you mentioned, see what sort of price they have in mind. Gav and others here are are right up on the value of Datsuns but one particular sale can be well over or under, no harm in asking top dollar and if there are no responses over a month or two then you are probably asking too much.
  22. Yeh it's a brilliant video, on the inside rear wheel thing I've also heard that negative camber in roll there causes the tyre to drag which acts as a brake on the inside wheel so helping the rear end to pivot round a corner. PM about the brace. EDIT The simulator is here http://www.racingaspirations.com/ To get the full service requires a subscription of a few dollars per month, I'm going to cancel mine when it's finished with.
  23. Have a look at this video and see how the inside rear tyre in a corner unloads by going into more negative camber. Apparently this is a good thing for any rear drive car as it helps the outside tyre drive the car around a corner, I have heard of this before but never seen it so graphically demonstrated, nearly half the wide tyre is off the deck at times. So this qualifies what I said earlier about the project's chosen setup, gaining inside wheel negative camber is a good thing.
  24. A bit under powered? This is how you can own the powerful cars at Bathurst. Note and enjoy.
