  1. Alan, are you being deliberately obtuse about Nissan? In the US they have consistently supported motorsport which has resulted in all model Zeds being raced and with a lot of the older cars still being raced, Nissan/NISMO have a regular sports option cattle dog for a start. You would know about Nissan Japan, the support seems to be strong there too. In contrast Nissan Australia has never been consistent with it's racing support and that never involved Zeds anyway. Factory backing carries weight and that includes with bodies like CAMS. I've mentioned Porsche several times as to how this is done well, not all their racing success is attributable to their cars even if the fanboys would like to think otherwise.
  2. At last some reliable info from someone directly involved in Sc, thankyou hmd. All this time us 'outsiders' have been misinformed about the status of Sports Option parts while some of us have been putting some effort into trying to help, those of us who have nothing to gain but simply would like to see the S30 be less handicapped. It looks like all this has come about through Nissan's lack of consistent support for motorsport and particularly for the Z car and the privateer drivers, something that I rant about occasionally. On the other hand Porsche consistently back their product and owners by gaining whatever advantages they can for them. That's the difference.
  3. Great post d3cOy, we are pretty much on the same page, according to the books I have the opinion is that F1 cars develop a lot of their downforce from their flat smooth undertray with the rear diffuser working with the wing. They deliberately flow air underneath for that reason, The good thing about a Gurney is that it can be attached by a few screws so it's easily removable during a race day.
  4. That Infiniti is a 2+2 370Z? Anyway, well done, must have been a hell of a day.
  5. Last I recall of the claimed requirements for getting option parts eligible for Sc was that they had to have been shown to have been sold in Australia. So the dealer stamped cattle dog Gavin has linked goes at least part way there, for anyone interested it would be worth while running this by CAMS again. Is anyone from that dealer still around? I guess you are no longer interested Jason because you have sold your SC Zed so there is nothing in it for you now.
  6. What may be happening with the enhanced spoiler is that it may be driving the rear diffuser ie it is helping the diffuser speed up the exit of underbody air so adding some downforce. To explain, the bottom of a F1 wing is quite close to the rear diffuser and, according to the experts, that helps as above. So that the wings on our cars work they have to be mounted fairly high which means the above does not happen, too far away. For the project I'm thinking that both a wing and a spoiler would be the go but with your limited power Gordo that may not be helpful. It sounds like yours is pretty right as is. I've done a fair bit of research on rear 'boot lid' spoilers but there is not a lot around on the tech, probably because they are not used much by modern cars. You could try fitting a vertical Gurney flap though Gordo if a bit more rear high speed grip would help, say 30 - 40mm high.
  7. Seeing we are talking about racing and Nissan, I could talk/rant on forever. Particularly about Porsche, the S30 and missed opportunities. For the sake of brevity take just one current example, NISMO and the 370Z . Bring out a NISMO version of the 370Z, basically a good idea that is decades overdue, still better late than never you may think. So what power increase do we get with our competition orientated NISMO, wait for it, a single Kw figure increase over stock is what we get. Seriously.
  8. Firstly Alan, obviously, I'm coming with an Australian perspective and my comment is certainly relevant here. As for Japan, from your posts alone over the years I'm aware to some degree of the Japanese situation but my point applies to what Nissan Japan did overseas other than some rallys which is not racing. The rest of it is pretty obvious, just look at the emphasis Japan has placed on the Skyline compared with the neglected 370Z and it's non existent successor.
  9. Don't get me started on the lack of factory belief in the S30 and it's consequential misplaced emphasis on the Skyline which continues to this day. Only in the US did the S30 and subsequent Z's get the support they needed to successfully compete, Nissan US managed quite well in sales without the Skyline.
  10. That's interesting Gordo, S30 looks better without a wing too if that matters. So obviously less drag sans wing and the car must still be balanced if you did a PB.
  11. Looked at early Falcon rear brakes back in my S30 days, from what I recall there were two models with handbrake calipers, one had a pretty decent rotor bigger than the alternatives.
  12. Finally the beast has been caged, pretty basic and not international spec. Nothing exceptional, a taxi bar for the seat belts and a X bar where the dash was to brace the sides of the A pillar bars. Am going to tag the cage to the body as much as possible to combine the strengths of both parts.
  13. Just been to the local brake place myself, they were able to source a slightly bigger ID master cylinder for the Z31, perhaps there is a later more compact booster that will fit yours. No harm asking,
  14. Cage is supposed to be done this week, in the meantime I took on something best avoided, redesigning the whole front of the car which consists of a big lump of plastic which goes back to the bonnet front edge. The redesign is simply to improve front down force by getting rid of the bumper protrusion and extending the lower part at the front forward for a better spoiler and add on splitter. Pics are a before and after of stage one of the process, taking a mould which will modified and then used to produce the final item. There has to be a better way, fibreglassing that big lump of plastic was a awful job that has not turned out well. Irrelevant sunset pic included, second pic includes the 280ZX's undertray that was smashed at Bathurst.
  15. Think I remember you punting a 280ZX out at Lakeside, didn't you have two 2 seaters plus a fair bit of rust? You could always mod one of the 2+2's to own Porsches like Phil has done, below.
  16. Gavin's info and pics are great, a lot of work involved in putting that post together which should be of benefit to many. The unfortunate part is that it was posted in a thread specifically created to advise of the availability of a new part when it is unknown that it is from the same maker as the one he critiques.
  17. That body kit looks awful, particularly the rear guards. On the other hand there is a bloke on HybridZ doing one for his S30 which looks sensational although it's almost a rebody.
  18. '69 model? Ventilated front rotors?
  19. Prefer Tom's to the oh so cool auto house, err, Autohaus . Not in Germany.
  20. Google tells me that it's the euro ones which are different, US and Jap ones are the same. Seeing that the tool is marked 'SAE' it should be good for our cars.
  21. Yeh I've too seen other Z control arms marked L and R, strange. Anyway it's sorted which is the important thing.
  22. That's good news GongZ, thanks. Somewhere in the back of my messy mind was something about Japanese flares being different to American ones. But that's it.
  23. They are marked with an L and a R.
  24. Will this Ebay job do it? https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/302342858372?ul_noapp=true
  25. Going to get it tricked up to take 500hp Gavin?
