  1. Appreciate all the advice but it's a race car so easy touch ups are important and I've had good results from acrylic. Pic show my 260Z done in acrylic under the house with a Supercheap spray gun and not enough compressed air capacity.
  2. Using about 50 psi, the pick up tube was a bit loose so that's been sealed now.
  3. It's a new cheapie but has all the adjustments and is quite light and good to use but pfft, pfft, pfft, same as the old gun I threw away. Thought it might be the paint viscosity but it still does it with thinners. The instructions list possible causes which are gun related, is there anything in particular that should be checked thoroughly? It's a suction gun, have tried a gravity fed gun but don't like them.
  4. I don't know how you tell either way but why take the risk, it's easy enough to remove and dispose of isn't it. That underbody sealant may be more of a worry but I guess it would need chemical testing to tell.
  5. Not the full strength loctite yah numpty, the removable one is made specifically for situations like this. Do people still use Stag, hmmmm, OK.
  6. And loctite those M4 suckers in ya gumboot.
  7. The US seems to go for cars with a name that has some history or back story, my bet here is that the GMG name has added a lot of $ to the price.
  8. But does anyone know for sure that the wrapping around the fuel lines contains asbestos? It seemed to be more of a glass fibre material to me.
  9. What revs does a good single cam L4 run to? Apparently the BRE 510's used to spin up to 9k+ reliably.
  10. It would be a pity not to use the patterns after all the good work done to design them. Gavin may want to lease/buy them, he's a bit of an entrepreneur
  11. As a general comment it's great to see you blokes restoring these for so long neglected cars. And ending up with a valuable driver's car with almost unlimited potential any way you want to go, or not. You'll never regret it.
  12. RB20 turbo box will handle up to 300 horses treated reasonably well eg no drags or driftin.
  13. Proper bonnet vents are a great thing for cooling generally, hot air tends to rise so they work particularly well when the car is stopped.
  14. That's a wild assertion with no foundation that I'm aware of although no doubt you have examples to the contary lol. When I trolled through two 60's and 70's world cars books many years ago looking for the car with the best features as proven by time it came down to two, 240Z and 911. I'm surprised that you are apparently not aware of the features that went to make the 240Z a stand out car of the time but then again the British generally were a bit slow and behind the times compared with the New World's market. The features I looked for included independent suspension all round using proven systems (eg not Triumph's crude and problematical rear suspension), R&P steering, disc brakes, well designed engine with potential, 5 speed gearbox, sleek body, compact size, strength and reliabiity and so on. You may want to do what I did back then Alan, it's an interesting exercise that puts things in perspective and then get back to me. Facts only please, not your usual eurocentic distortions that try to dismiss the real world.
  15. The up side of course is that we have a 60's design car that is mechanically sympathetic to improvement and a chassis capable of handling and using a lot more power than it was designed for. All without any aero at all so exactly as it came off the drawing board. If that is not exceptionally impressive then I don't know what is and that is why you you love them so much isn't it Gavin
  16. This car just shows how good the basic S30 design is and why it should be given the credit it is due. Of course it's not the only outstanding example of it's kind so it's no exception, no contemporary can and does come near it.
  17. Toyota is supposed to be working with BMW on the new Supra so I guess that Nissan and MB makes some sort of sense. Personally I'd rather see Toyota and Nissan stay pure, surely both have enough on their powertrain shelves which is a big start but style the bloody things in house instead of in some design studio/crack den in the US, the Z32 was the last Japanese designed Z car and style wise it's still a cracker which is more than can be said for the two that followed. Maybe styling is a reason for hooking up with the euros. The bloody GT-R needs it's toes stepping on, for everything that has been lavished on it the result is nothing brilliant, less self indulgent tech and more mechanical perfection goodness please. As things stand now I'd take a 370Z and spend the savings on making it a proper sports car. And find some way to make it look like a proper Z car or at least less of a 'styling exercise'.
  18. Am going to get some simple graphics done over the acrylic but there are people here who do vinyl and of of course there are sign writers locally too. YOLO Racing?
  19. For a bit extra gloss off the gun, are all thinners the same?
  20. For the Z31 project race car, appliance white. What I'm thinking is to lay down enough colour so it can be buffed back to give some sort of shine and leave it at that, no clear coat. The risk may be getting carried away and buffing through the colour I suppose, So would a better alternative be to use enough clear to give a reasonable shine without buffing? That would make a paint repair job more complicated though wouldn't it. Material quantities? Already have 4 litres of white. Thanks chaps, any other tips?
  21. Quoting myself but this is so much fun Looks like I was right about the Porsche cherry picking 'easy beats' comment, ran across the results for a Euro GT Championship round at Zandvoort. For starters nearly all the entrants were Porsches and why not, 911S's with 2495cc engines against a 1296cc Alpine, 1598cc Lancia Fulvia and a 1558cc Lotus Elan. Wow, what a competition. Not!!!! Only a fanboy and PZG302 could try to make something out of that.
  22. Yeah, Big Sam looks a bit hit and miss to me eg the huge front grille opening should not be necessary for effective cooling and creates excessive drag. I'm not particularly pro US but some of their versions look great to me.
  23. Only it's owner could love it.
  24. But in your post #3 you said Porsche won THREE different championships multiple times with production cars, now it's just ONE. Against what? Let me guess lol. Like I said, Porsche series shopping for the easy beat opposition.
  25. What 'utter nonsense about Porsche' Alan? Spell it out specifically. Your'e a disappointment, you dismiss facts that don't suit your agenda like the S30's SCCA championships and when I push that you get personal and try to act all superior. If that's the sort of person you are then goodbye..
