Chris you know what they say about follically challenged men, haven't got it on top but can go all night , which means that I have just stuck a foot in my mouth because I look like a long haired friend of Jesus, but deserve to take one for my Bro after posting the initial comment

Buy the man a cigar ! Yep bog it is, and then they vacuum form a new skin over the top using a sheet of vinyl, that's the actual process, there is no adhesive in between new and old surface, just the vacuum shrink effect so peeling it off is pretty simple.

Wasn't sure whether to call this post "Because I care I share" or "Well may you say God save the Queen because nothing will save your dash" Anyhow pictures paint a 1000 words and I'm sure these will interest some, this is my dash, which looked nice in previous candid post pics and anyone would have been pretty happy with it in their car, however I needed to do some mods to it and intend to have it eventually re-trimmed in "Alcantara Suede" so it was time to peel back the years so to say. This dash was reconditioned by the Dashboard Doctor in 1992, in 1994 it went into storage, do the sums, 2 years in an every day driver and then 16 years in an underground car park, didn't move an inch nor get any direct sunlight. Now I'm not having a go at the good Doctor, in 1992 they were the best at what they do and I was very happy with what they sent me back, no complaints, and materials may have changed since then so I'm not even sure if this is the standard any longer as far as repairs, but in case it is, and you have had a dash done this way, this is what you may be expecting in the coming years. Structurally the pad is in bad shape as a candidate for even a trim in Alcantara, and I will need to fix it so that it has longevity, this time I will be doing the repairs myself and am currently looking at different materials and techniques as to how to do it, what I'm hoping to end up doing is coming up with a DIY solution rather than just using fillers. So just thought I would share. Cheers John

Hey Salty I know that we all like to take the Mickey out of one and other on this forum at times, but a personal tragedy always brings this forum to a rally, so my sincerest condolences on the passing of your mother, a lot of us may be grown men that act as kids at times, but we are always mums boys and mums never stop being mums. Well I had an excuse, I dated no less than 4 hairdressers in my youth, drive a hair dressers car AT THE MOMENT and am an out and open Metrosexual, HOWEVER, the same cannot be said for the tall skinny bloke, guess we all have to come out of the closet at some stage, stay proud Lurch ! The same as Loui also, Billie and Rachael were wonderful, thanks for putting up with us and our stomping around your beautiful home in our dust laden work gear, Billie I'm going to hold you to your promise of helping organise the cannonball Run also ! And Jane, you certainly kept us entertained, I'm sure you and Lurch will spend some time in the coming days shopping at Harvey Normans, I hear they have Vidal Sassoon ceramic hair straighteners on special and you can both do each others hair and nails LMAO Loui brother, alas your receding hairline didn't offer me the opportunities, but as I said in Simon's build post, it was like watching two blokes work in perfect sync together, your fabricating skills stood out Bro and I'm sure one day soon I will have to make the run up to Sydney and spend a couple of pleasurable days seeing what I can screw up on your car. Simon, if you ever decide to leave the FIRM, I'm sure I can speak to some of my high ranking mates at the CFMEU about a shop stewards role, your overseeing abilities are extraordinary, no just kidding, mate you know you have it in you, just take a leap of faith and jump into it, somehow I think you will suprise us all. Peter, I'm sorry about the snoring, told you we should have gone to that wine bar after they all went to bed ! As Loui wrote, very impressive to see you rock up and so exactingly but causally get through an engine assembly like that. Jimbo, as I said before, when the going got tough, you kept the tough going, and Adrian, its great to see and meet new members with the enthusiasm you showed and some fine workmanship to go with it. Peter Likewise, even though I didn't get many opp's to come visit you in the back shed............... When I saw that roof the first morning I SHAT myself, I was seriously looking to see if we could use the one from the parts car as a donor ! I spent another few hours on it after you all left, Simon can fill you in on the results, the 1/4 shot looks horrid as it was before I did the final tap up, but its come up nice also, will let Simon post some shots when he has time. Hat off to Loui and Lurch, what a team ! you would have thought they had been working as one for years. And Ayd's did a great days work on the tail lamp area, great stuff. Jimbo what can I say, when I got down about all that shrinking I was doing, your words of encouragement kept the arthritic elbow working !
