Rev Thats Brilliant ! Im sure the media would get behind it also, maybe it could be a topic of discussion at the meeting on the 6th. How about everyone puts on their thinking caps and uses the thread for some brainstorming. And I am deadly serious about this, I for one want to do it.

Ben Speed is not the idea here, sure there will be opps for some straight out mayhem, but moreso its to do a national all points run visit the sights and end up doing a "What happens in Alice stays in Alice" event.

Guys I have been thinking about something for a few months now, mentioned it to a couple of members in passing and have decided to post this up to see what the general concensus is. This forum has members from all over Australia and it would be great to create a unique event that gave everyone no matter where they are a chance to congregate and enjoy an event and truly bring us all together as a National group. Therefore Ive come up with the idea running our own cannonball run. The idea would be to start a run from all states at a time where all participants would meet up in the heart of Australia - Alice Springs. The Melbourne group for instance would run across Western Vic via Adelaide, Port Augusta, Woomera, Coober Pedy, Marla, Ghan and then Alice. Melbourne crew - 2244 km's Adelaide crew - 1532 km's Sydney crew - 2785 km's via Port Augusta SA where we would meet up for the remaining leg Brisbane crew - 2993 km's Perth crew - 3600 km's via Port Augusta also but with the advantage of doing the Nullarbor Darwin crew - 1498 km's This would need a lot of advance planning and preparation, and would probably be a 7 day minimal event, but I think it might make for some great documentary material also that could generate some big interest, I have some idea's. Can anyone imagine the sight of 100 Zed's in Alice? Cheers John

Thanks Simon, Yeah I'm on a mission now to get this done so I can do the mod on the center floor console to match up to it, here is today's effort, first prime and sand back of the fascia, will put on a few more coats this evening to pick up on some of the minor defects. Cheers John

Bit of an update and also look into what is involvedwhen plastic welding as some members asked to see pics of the process. I went to weld the final section in today and took a series of pics, the last 2 show the first coat of filler and also the rear end of the garnish, I know it look horrid from the back but the strengh is fantastic, so since no one will ever get to see if pffffft ! Plastic doners for all of this were 1 S30 260Z vent garnish 1 Nissan Ativa vent panel 1 Mitsubishi Verada vent panel 1 EA Falcon Glove Box Door and 1 Victa lawn mower catcher I cut into strip for welding. Correct, By the time the 260Z rolled into the 280Z Californian laws dictated that the car required a less intrusive bar which included shock absorbers front and rear. If you look at a 260Z rear you will see there are 2 rubber grommets in the rear lower valace one either side below the bumper line, these were the insertion points for the U.S. bar shock absorbers. What Zunhell is doing is reverting back to the 240Z / 260Z (Read rest of the world) narrow bars such as the ones on our cars. When he stated that he can get 280Z bar irons what he means is that they are the Californian shock type irons which wont work on our bumper bars. Cheers John

That looks SWEET ! The only other thing would be to try and change the nose to a more contemporary look and I think it would be a massive winner, still think the Daytona front treatment would look stunning on it. Well done Lukas, maybe try photoshopping the nose with a Daytona just to humor me? LOL

Mark, This is a tough one that will be disputed, I can see this turning into a long thread of debate, but this is my take on it. Lets say that you found an original 240Z, original paint albeit in fair condition, VERY minor surface rust lets say around the rear hatch locking panel, along the edge of one of the doors, all the original equipment unmolested including trim, carpets, even the jack tool kit etc. Assume everything was in running order although tired, some leaks, some smoke blowing out the tail pipe, a slightly noisy gearbox and rear end. So assuming we have a picture of what the car is like in our minds, we would say this is an original untampered with example and a rarity to say the least. What would it be worth ? id say $12K + wouldn't be unreasonable. To bring it back to an acceptable cosmetic and mechanical level which we will call restored for this hypothetical I would say you would need to spend that money again, so mid $20K + for a restored 240Z I think would be reasonable. OK now lest go to the extreme, same car but rust rust rust, its been molested as far as mods and missing equipment, simple small things, to bring it to the same base level as the car described above you would need $6K plus probably doing the work yourself, and that would give you a car that would be the starting point or foundation for a concourse example. So, basket case money and man hour pit 240Z $4-$6, good original base example $12+ Concourse car, how long is a piece of string?

Thanks Pete, BUT ! I'm building this for myself, and anything I learn or develop along the way i enjoy sharing, it will be a special car in a class of other Hybrids like Kato's etc, then there are the purist cars like Adam and Aaron's in Sydney, and your race car, all of them are special as is every Zed discussed on this forum for the simple fact that they are all here and still amongst us and not in some scrap yard waiting to be shredded or in a paddock rusting a slow death. I know some ppl on here must be a bit sick of my insignificant posts and I apologise if I become a bit anal at times, but one day I'm going to sit down when its all said and done and read this thread from start to end and laugh cringe and ask myself why the hell did you write that as I sit in some retirement home in a wheel chair with a tarten blanket and hush puppies and gaze out the window and look at it sitting in the driveway next to Simon Maygz zed in the adjoining one, isn't that right Simon?
