  1. Hey Benny Yeah saw this before and dont really like the exicution, by blanking out the entire rear and then sitting them on top it looks very bland, I was thinking of building mine into the original garnishes so as when they are bolted in the rear retains that lip line like the original Zed does. But hats off to him for trying it nevertheless, just not how I might/will do it. Cheers John
  2. Saxon The car you are after and the price you are willing to pay sounds like Nacks car, he had it advertised here some months ago and I can personally vouch having inspected it for a QLD forum member that its a very clean unit, Nacks (James) and I dont have any affiliation so dont think that Im plugging it for personal reasons. I can say that is was on par with Toecutters car which I also saw up close at Lurch's prior to its sale. Cheers John
  3. Hey Scoota, Thanks for substantiating the costs, I have read another post saying they picked up a set of second hand calipers for $40.00 on EBay, but I doubt anyone would seriously take the risk of bolting them on as is and go screaming down the road unless they were clutching their rosary beads. If you intend doing a mood like this that I know you appreciate has to be done right, then be prepared to spend the dollars also. Anyhow, cheers and thanks again.
  4. How long is a piece of string? Seriously though I think it may come down to personal insight and inspiration a post may deliver the reader, and quantity may play the lowest denominator in it all, what one person may believe is mundane, another may find a eureka moment in. But the question also begs asking so I have to, what brought this on Scoota I'm intrigued also LOL
  5. Sorry mate, Read it forgot to reply, check your PM's in a minute
  6. Have to agree with ben there, this looks very tidy but also like it has the goods to get up and go. Nice work. By the way ben, that rocker cover looks similar to yours?
  7. Here here Simon, Guess a 1200 mentality when dealing with people is exactly half that of a 240 (Read 2400) mentality of working with people. Yeah let the knives fly, I know, its all good the calluses on my back from previous bouts should help deflect them. John
  8. Shan For what you are doing try Ivan at TIK Motor Engineers & Repairers 63A St Albans Rd, St Albans TEL: 9366 7131 I know Ivan and he does all sorts of work, used to be into Nissan's in the 1980's, does ECU work and genrally an all round good mechanic who does performance and modification work etc. Cheers John
  9. Pete Don't be disheartened, sh*t happens and at least you wont rush it and take unreasonable risks, up side is it may slip into urban legend so to say for a while but will still knock everyone overboard when it eventually breathes life. Cheers John
  10. PLEASE NOTE ! I mentioned in the last post that the rotors were vented and slotted, in fact they are solids and slotted the fronts which are Peugeot rotors are slotted and vented, my mistake. Apologies for any inconvenience. Here is a pic taken by Lurch of the raw rear set up when the conversion was done so that there are no issues as to what and how they are mounted. Cheers John
  11. May as well stick these on here also rather than having multiple threads Break up of refurbishment costs Second hand Calipers $140 New vented and slotted Rotors $240 Rebuild, Blasting and Kits $200 By Super Stoppers Powder Coating $ $80 Mods by Lurch approx $100 Total $760.00 Sell the lot for $600.00
  12. Hi Crew, Yep time to start moving some parts, and to be honest I'm not 100% sure what these will be worth, I have included some pics of the production stamps if that may help with identification. These are the matching 5 speed box and diff assy out of my 1975 260Z. They have not been in service since circa 1994 when the car was taken off the road as you all know. I can say with my hand on my heart that both these units worked faultlessly, no noises, no synchro problems, no diff knocking, whining etc etc etc. There is a brownish coating on parts of both assy's, this was actually an option product sprayed onto the entire underside of the car by the dealer called "Tru-Coat" which was like a stone guard, it actually comes off with some effort but as you can see did its job, the diff was heavily coated in it, you can still make out traces of the factory black paint (Not oil or grime) under it, the diff still has the original factory universals in it, they were never changed. I cant tell you what ratio's the box has, simply it was a 75" delivery 2 seater manual, the diff is not and LSD, there are pics of production stamps, also in one pic you can just make out 2 more reference numbers which where "392" and just below it "T22". The shifter is included with the box but not shown, I can also supply the box with the fly wheel clutch master and slave and tailshaft for those looking to do an auto to manual swap. I'm open to offers for either item, or both or a complete kit as discussed. Cheers John
  13. Thanks Mossy, Any suggestions and all avenues will be investigated. Benny I get the feeling you really want this to happen buddy, good thinking and yes today while I sat looking at the car getting ready to pull my finger out the same or similar thought came to mind, I believe that the base non supercharged M112 found in the C320 / SLK320 and Crossfire all use the same crank as the C32 AMG version, this being the case then maybe just maybe a manual flywheel may do the job, will have to do some research in that area. Mike, Not sure about a cut and shut, but maybe for the purposes of mocking one up to see if everything works and then having one CNC'd from a billet yes I agree. I wouldn't go straight cut, although the sound coupled with a supercharger and modified exhaust would make for an interesting beast LOL I checked the ratios of the Getrag 290 out of the V8 Commodore against the AMG 5 speed 1 2 3 4 5 AMG Speed Shift 3.59 2.19 1.41 1.00 0.83 Getrag 290 3.49 2.16 1.40 1.00 0.78 Once again, have to see exactly what torque figures this box can take, but its compact and there would be a load of aftermarket hardware and gear for it which makes it an attractive prospect. Reading the Commodore forums, everyone swears by them. Cheers John
  14. Hey Ben Appreciate that you went out of your way to help, but I have to explain, read my quote above first. The M112 base motor in the C320, SLK320 and Crossfire are all standard fuel injected motors only straight off the Benz production line. AMG built the C32 and SLK32 Supercharged versions, yes you can get a box as you found to fit a base M112 as per the above, but, not a C32 or SLK32 supercharged version due to the torque, that trans just wouldn't handle 450 Nm that's why they only ever came out as auto's Good try Buddy but no cigar unfortunately.
  15. David That's what i love about this forum, the exchange of idea's and information. On the Motec side of things first, the cost isn't a concern and I feel pretty confident that it is a workable solution, when I weighed up all of the costs involved with the Benz electronics it wont be that hard a kick in the backside for what I want to achieve. Commonality of Benz motors / Transmissions, sit back and let me tell you a story, the M112 engine which mine is was the first and only V6 ever produced by Benz, and has NO commonality with any Benz motors prior to it, apparently everyone was trying to figure why they built it, reason, because when you add 2 more cylinders to it as they did you end up with whats called an M113. This is the ONLY motor it has any commonality with and there is no manual box available for them (Read HP AMG power figures) period. So the only option is to source a box that would be able to do the job, the 420G has the same internals as the Getrag Supra box which was my first thought, then the 420G and last but not least and maybe still an option the Holden V8 Getrag 290 which I have seen for just over $2300 NEW, I presumed yours was the 420G, now I can refocus and look at the ZF as a possibility. Also, I should be able to claw back some bucks with the Speedshift AMG box, so on balance investing in a manual replacement wont hit me that hard fingers crossed. And you are correct, its like looking a 3 mixed jigsaw puzzles all sitting in the same carton at the moment, and MUCH research is still needed, however, I'm set on doing this so don't fret, I like my avatar too much now to back out of the project LOL May give you a call at some stage David just to say Hi and chew the fat over this unfolding drama if you don't mind. Cheers John Anythings a posibility Ben
  16. I agree Mike, from everything I have been able to read about the box its the way to go, just need to compare the belhousing on one to the back of the C32 then see what can be done as far as either having an adaptor plate made or a whole HOG bellhousing. Also spoke to David one of the main men at MoTeC today and he has confirmed that their unit will drive the motor so thats re-assuring news but as I said, never enough research and I guess there are still unseen's that lay ahead. Cheers John
  17. Simon, Mike Somehow I think that a Hollinger or Quaife would be worth more than the entire car in the end, I'd like to finish it with the funding stream I forecast before 2025 LOL Think I will be speaking to Kato about the Getrag 420G ( I believe its a 420G) box he is running behind his Bavarian for the simple fact that #1 It fits, #2 he has done some spectacular work as far as mounting it, sorting out the gear shift etc, and #3 The 420G box he is running is good for the torque rating of the C32 as its rated just shy of 500Nm and reasonably priced in the market place. Remember either way I'm going to have to get a lot of engineering done just to get it to marry to the motor.
  18. Yep Nothing like trying to connect a mobile phone cradle in a modern car and then finding out that each time the phone engages either the cruise control activates (Nice idea actually) or the air bags go off LMAO
  19. Way to go Mr and Mrs Mos ! Congrats !
  20. UPDATE: I'm sure David (Katokid) is going to laugh his pants off when he reads this, nevertheless it just goes to show that no matter how much research you thought you have done, ITS NEVER ENOUGH ! In the past 48 hours I have learnt that the entire electronics system and hardware from a C32 sedan CANNOT be retro fitted into my car, that's the bad news. So after spending the better part of a day curled up in a fetal position sucking my thumb and thinking about my new position I tried to visualise exactly how the entire AGM package could work and came to the conclusion that dumping the auto trans, ECU and TCM and fitting a manual trans could allow me to move forward, what i have to do however is run something like a MoTeC M600 aftermarket management system instead. The reason for this is simple, after making another call to the UK and speaking to a tech at ATP about getting my ECU decoded so as to eliminate the security features I learnt that this was only part of the puzzle, the C32's ECU and TCM actually use telemetry from an array of other inputs such as the ABS, traction control, launch control and even suspension telemetry etc, if one of these telemetry streams is inactive the ECU and TCM read it as being a fault and the entire electronics go into limp mode. As we all know, Datsun even with all their visionary idea's in the 1970's never equiped my 260Z with such features and retro fitting them all from a Benz would end up costing me the price of a C32 sedan. If I was to use a manual stick shift like a Getrag with the MoTeC management system basically what I will be dealing with is a lump of metal with pistons injectors etc etc etc that the MoTeC can be set up for. I put my theory to Peter Mc and we did some soul searching on the phone and over the net last night and so far it looks doable. So now it looks like I will end up with not only the first S30 powered by a C32 AMG motor, but also the first C32 manual period "FINGERS CROSSED" David you can stop laughing now and get back to your Bavarian Brat LOL Cheers John
  21. Nice work Scoota, And dont listen to David, who wants a motor with the Disi at the wrong end.
  22. LMAO Where there is a will there is a way, and stay tuned to my thread as i have a WHPPA of a story to tell soon. Mike I was also looking at a tap system on a Lexus, it uses a remote air valve to open and close the tap with its own vacuum pump which is activated by an electrical signal, what I was thinking was maybe use some type of resistor so as when a charge came through from the unit it activates or deactivates the pump, what do you think? This would dispense with the need for an actuator. If you need some searching done for this MYSTERY unit this side of the pond just send me a PM
  23. Yup I have 3 actuators, however the problem is that with our old school systems you have the heater valve plus 3 doors to operate, think you know what I'm getting at, something I didn't consider earlier, however i have put it aside while I think about it and all I can imagine is running a secondary surrogate actuator for the valve piggy backing off one of the other impulses if that makes sense?
  24. +1 Ash all the best and Im sure I will be at your door at some stage. Cheers John
