Glad you found something of interest in my thread Gav.

Thanks Ric I hope you don't remain one of the silent members as you mentioned today, I and I'm sure all of us will be looking forward to the restoration updates on your early girl 240Z. As for the rest of my day, well got stuck into the rear end geometry today and working around small factory tolerances when the sheet metal and rear mustache bar mounts were welded in place. Going with a solid rear means that the play in items such as the hangers and rear lower LCA support's that allowed everything to bolt up and line up with a bit of manipulation just isn't there and things get pretty tight with bolt points etc when you are working with substantially larger chunks or metal. Anyhow, the picture series below tell the story, the original hanger plates pictured for the last time will now be consigned to the parts bin, in their place 5mm walled RHS beam utilising the hanger bolt points and the 2 mustache mounts, this should give a good foundation for the suspension set up and mounting the diff off. The forward member that the LCA's will eventually be grafted to utilise the 4 bolt mounts from the old LCA forward cross member. YES, crush tubes will be added to all these bolt points shortly. From there 205mm hangers from the same material currently held in place by some plates and clamps. and off of these 42mm OD pipe with a 4mm wall thickness. These are welded to the hangers and will act as the pivot rods for Arizona Z type LCA's, all that will need to be done is to weld on 4 brackets on each so that the Rose Joints/ Rod Ends can bolt up to. Speaking to Peter Mac, these will have 3-4 bolts points on each to allow for the joints to be bolted higher or lower to help with adjustment should it be needed when the suspension is lowered etc etc etc. So that was all for today, new "D" size gas bottle is great, no problems running out of gas, but of course I ran out of mig wire this time. Stay tuned Cheers John

As 007 would have said to 00019........................."Very Shecksy Money Penny" P.S. Are they 2 S30 1/4 panels hanging on the wall in the background?

It was posted to me via Australia post full of Argon from Sydney for $20, being empty I'd say it would cost the same or there abouts to get it to most other states from Vic. -

SpeedGas out of NSW are now selling them, and GasWeld, another supplier are agents for them, you can have them swapped over at either of the 2 suppliers stores Australia wide, my problem is that GasWeld only have one location in Victoria which is 50 kms away from where I live so its a bit impractical running cross town each time I need to swap one over, SpeedGas have stores at these locations ADELAIDE ALBURY ALEXANDRIA BARRABA BATHURST BLACKTOWN BRISBANE QLD BROOKVALE BUNDABERG QLD BURNIE TAS CAIRNS QLD CAMPBELLTOWN CANBERRA CASTLE HILL COFFS HARBOUR DEE WHY DERWENT PARK TAS DEVONPORT TAS DUBBO DULWICH HILL EUROA VIC FREMANTLE WA FYSHWICK, CANBERRA GEORGE TOWN TAS GLADSTONE QLD GOSFORD GYMPIE HORSHAM VIC HUNTER VALLEY / NEWCASTLE INVERELL KATOOMBA KINGSTON TAS LAMBTON LAUNCESTON TAS LISMORE LITHGOW MACKAY QLD MANLY VALE HEAD OFFICE MELBOURNE MORNINGTON TAS MOUNT GAMBIER SA MUDGEE MURWILLUMBAH NEWCASTLE NHILL VIC ORANGE PARKES PENRITH PERTH WA PORT MACQUARIE QUEANBEYAN ROCKHAMPTON QLD RUTHERFORD SANDGATE QLD SMITHFIELD TAHMOOR TAMWORTH TAREE TAREN POINT TOWNSVILLE QLD TUGGERAH/ WYONG TUMUT TWEED REGION WAGGA WAGGA WETHERILL PARK WOLLONGONG WYONG YAMBA/ GRAFTON -
Epic ! Great way to start off mate, bonding with your car over such a long road trip only makes the connection stronger. Stay the path Cheers John

Hi guys I purchased a "C size" Argon bottle for the work I am doing, but want to upgrade to a "D" size. This bottle is owned outright and there is no rental cost associated with it, simply have it refilled at "Gasweld" South Dandenong for $45 changeover as you need it. It's small and very portable and great to have if you are an infrequent user. I get about an hour of welding time out of it at a time. To buy this bottle first time filled with gas outright is $215, that's $170 for the bottle and $45 for the gas. I'm selling this bottle for $100 Cheers John

Well Toyota did get it right with the Celica before the 40, but as usual lost the plot. I've always loved the RA28's. Dont take much to turn this into a real looking Jap Muscle car with it's Mustang design que's.

Very keen, keep them coming ;-)

The door apertures are different, however the sill panel profiles are the same and the 2 seater version will fit but might be slightly shorter if at all.

Peter If no luck and you still need an alternative, maybe pool cleaner hose ? http://www.clarkrubber.com.au/hose-pool-staflex-38mm.html

Your welcome Mate I'm sure if you find one, even though we hate seeing colony cars make their way back to the B*stards that sent us here, that members on the forum would be happy to do an inspection for you ;-)

Welcome Adrian I would suggest apart from this forum that you register with Australian and NZ online car sales sites etc and set up alerts to notify you when they come up which they do from time to time. Cheers John

Looking good Jeff.

Looks the absolute goods Gav ! -
Thanks Mate, although I must be confusing the hell out of you all with that last rear cross member obscuring the rear LCA mounts. I have 2 options now in that area 1st being that I graft in 40mm ID pipe cuts to replicate the original set up. 2nd, and the one I am favoring as I'm looking at using Arizona fully adjustable rear LCA's is to use a fixed bolt in mount shaft that the LCA's via the rod ends would hang off. This would mean that brackets would be fabricated on the new forward cross member and at the opposing ends at the new rear mounts I will fabricate. No more 2mm hanger plates and moustache bar Hope that makes sense.

Tutorial: Improving door latch function

Great work Peter -
Added the rear cross member today and started to add in twin exhaust portals, everything's squared up to the millimeter. Now I will start thinking incorporating about an "X" support member in the chassis, at this stage it looks like it will slot in from the inner corner points at the rear, to the tunnel support brackets I fabricated. Sitting back and taking it all in I realise I will probably be able to flat bottom the area under the chassis now, so will see how things pan out down the track. Cheers John

Hi Peter There will be 4 bolts that will require crush tubes as agreed with and directed by the engineer. First 2 will be through the rails I have built and will bolt through the floor into a cross member which will be welded internally under each seat running sideways between the inner sill panels and the transmission tunnel. Second 2 will be at the rear which will also bolt through the floor and tie into a ladder assy which will be affixed between both rear suspension towers, this will stiffen up the entire rear end. As for the rest of the mounting points, its either a HT Bolt and nut affair using OEM bolt points as I have done so far or as in the case of todays mount builds, HT incapsulated nuts welded into the assy. Alas, I was about to complete the 2nd mount and the MIG gas bottle was reading almost "0" so thats it for this weekend. Cheers John

Spent today checking clearance for the new Tremac T56 box and as suspected the Z box mounts had to go. I negated the brackets but left the reo saddle which I used to create new mounts for the new chassis.
