  2. I am looking forward to the end result of all this work, looking the goods so far. I just sold a 1600 with T03 turbo on an L18 running a draw through setup with a 45DCOE Weber and am buying the turbo setup back off him with the intention of modifying & fitting it to a L6cyl. Keep it coming. ps. That pic of the manifold at the top of the page looks like one of those things in the Matrix.
  3. Had another crack at the carbs today and went back to basics 101. Leaned both mixture nuts right up and wound out 2 turns, car wouldn't run. Went out another 3 flats each carb on the nuts and got it to run, then spent another 30-40 minutes fine tuning and went for a quick blap. Got home and pulled the plugs and all 6 are that close to being a nice even colour and the car drove & pulled nicely all the way to 5500rpm so I shut the shed and came inside it was bloody freezing out there.
  4. Two problems with an otherwise nice product was as you say the block vent was one. To fix this i just massaged the pipe with a rubber mallet to get just enough clearance. No dramas with the thermostat housing. BUT they need to change the angle on the face plate where it mounts to the head a couple of deg. as it touches the bottom of the block on primarys 2 and 3.
  5. Yes, vac controls all work. When i went for a spin today I found the rear carb was over filling and pouring out. I have swapped with another spare I had and it seems ok for now. Only other prob is it shows plenty of voltage on the gauge but it is not charging the battery. I hate electrics. With a passion.
  6. Well the car finally got rego last Friday But had to wait for today to get a decent photo as it has rained every day since Now that I can take it for a decent drive I am able to pick up a few little bugs here and there, but all is good.

  11. The tank gives you a reserve of vacuum to move the controls. Mine wasn't working either until I fiddled around a bit and now they work great. The choke cable now just has a hook at the end into a hole on the lever as I got sick of it binding up and limiting how for you could pull the lever back. Now I have full choke with little effort and pressure on the console from the choke lever.
  12. When you say you removed the 'plastic bottle' are you referring to the vacuum tank? If so, how well do your demist controls work with it gone? Also here is a pic of my 260 with dome top choke mech. for reference.
  13. I also have these 14x6 but depends where you are.
  14. How's that for a quick answer! No probs Mate, I just remebered about them so thought I would check. Cheers.
  15. Just wondering how you went Sulio with the DVD's that were getting posted? As i havn't recieved a copy yet. Cheers. Simon
  16. Lurch, you should like this one Machining a custom aluminum plenum box for datsun L28 turbo motor. This box will fit directly on to the TWM ITB's installed on the motor. Check out his other vids of the 240 it is fitted to.
  17. Sorry Paul, forgot about this. It took awhile to get it sorted as it had a lot of problems with running too rich. The guy that bought it drove back to SA from here with no dramas. I am very tempted to have a go at setting it up on an L6 just to see how it would go. But I am not sure how I will go spreading it across 6 intake runners as on a L4 they are a bit closer together. Vid of engine bay here- Sorry if this is a hijack post.
  18. I have just insured the 260Z as it gets rego Friday through Shannons. I rang about 2 weeks ago and got a quote for $272. But when I rang today to go ahead with it, I told them I have a CAMS Rally license and got it for $244 with agreed value and all . Also got the daily driver insured aswell for $80 less than Budjet Direct. YEAH HAA.
  19. Got the engine fitted on the weekend and all went well. The old timming chain must have been streched bad and never adjusted as you couldn't get more than 2deg advance at 1000rpm. Now she purrs along at 850 with 8deg adv. Just abit loud as I havn't hooked up the extractors into the exhaust yet, thats been done Tues. morning.
  20. Alot of good roads in this area, but this is a great stretch. http://maps.google.com.au/maps?f=d&source=s_d&saddr=Myrniong+Victoria&daddr=trentham+Vic&hl=en&geocode=&mra=ls&sll=-37.445971,144.31572&sspn=0.372336,0.725098&ie=UTF8&ll=-37.498287,144.302673&spn=0.372076,0.725098&t=h&z=11
  21. Now your car looks like mine. I really wanted to go to the Grampians but didn't want to stuff other people around if something happened to me. Looks like you were lucky it didn't happen in the hills.
  22. That reminds me of my blonde sister inlaw claiming that my brothers Datsun 120y (that he used to get to work and back) was dangerous after driving it for the first time. She "couldn't get it over 80" not knowing what MPH means she was trying her hardest to get to 100
  23. Fuel consumption at maximum power is 0.278 lbs per hp per hour (Brake Specific Fuel Consumption). Fuel consumption at maximum economy is 0.260 lbs/hp/hour. At maximum economy the engine exceeds 50% thermal efficiency. That is, more than 50% of the energy in the fuel in converted to motion. For comparison, most automotive and small aircraft engines have BSFC figures in the 0.40-0.60 lbs/hp/hr range and 25-30% thermal efficiency range. Even at its most efficient power setting, the big 14 consumes 1,660 gallons of heavy fuel oil per hour. A cross section of the RTA96C:
  24. Yes you read it right. max power 108,920 hp at 102 rpm, torque: 5,608,312 lb/ft at 102rpm The Wartsila-Sulzer RTA96-C turbocharged two-stroke diesel engine is the most powerful and most efficient prime-mover in the world today. The Aioi Works of Japan 's Diesel United, Ltd built the first engines and is where some of these pictures were taken. It is available in 6 through 14 cylinder versions, all are inline engines. These engines were designed primarily for very large container ships. Ship owners like a single engine/single propeller design and the new generation of larger container ships needed a bigger engine to propel them. The cylinder bore is just under 38" and the stroke is just over 98". Each cylinder displaces 111,143 cubic inches (1820 liters) and produces 7780 horsepower. Total displacement comes out to 1,556,002 cubic inches (25,480 liters) for the fourteen cylinder version
