Actually there's a simpler answer. Because it is so low it only has about an inch of travel left before the shocks bottom out. With the stretched rear tyre and the arc of movement of the wheel at that height, it can move that far without touching the flare. Even if it does rub there is enough flex that it probably wouldn't get torn off, just wear away at the tyre.

Found it, actually says Coupe Auto GL and the build date is Feb 1974

These are scans from the original twin cam brochure printed in the early eighties. The first scan shows the completed engine and talks about how they used know-how from developing the TC16MAII twin cam head for the L18 to make the six-cylinder version for an L28 based high-power, high-rpm engine. The second scan shows the 500+ parts needed to assemble the head. The third scan is the specifications for the engine built in 1982 for the SCCA Pro Rally in Nevada. Here is a translation of the essentials: Engine Specifications 6-cylinder, water cooled, 2870cc, 87.8mm bore, 79mm stroke, 11:1 compression, 325ps at 7400rpm (239kW), 33kg.m at 6100rpm (323Nm), 9000rpm redline, twin cam, four-valve/cyl, 48-50mm Weber carburettor. Cylinder Head Data Cast aluminium, DOHC, Pentroof combustion chambers, 20° valve inclination, 35° intake port angle, 35.2mm intake valves, 30.5mm exhaust valves, 6.6mm valve stems, double valve springs, 298° cam duration, 10.5mm valve lift, timing chain, special steel (chrome moly?) cams, cast alloy cam holders

I checked, yes only 11 were completed

OK, Stop Press! I just got back from Singapore Auto Salon and had a long discussion with OS Giken manager Izumori-san about the TC24. Apparently the old castings will not be used. New moulds have been produced (same design) to suit more modern casting methods and create a higher quality end product. At this stage they are planning to make at least 15 heads. Headers will be made to order depending if the car is a Zed or Hakosuka. The complete bottom end with full-counter-balanced crank will be capable 10,000rpm! These will be sold ready-assembled as the L28 block needs a number of modifications to suit the stroker kit, including a brace to prevent torsional flex. They have already taken one order for an extreme race engine using a dry-sump set up. Now for the pricing (sit down first). The complete head (with cams, valvetrain, head gasket, inlet and exhaust manifolds etc) will be around 3.3 million yen in Japan, a complete engine with the bottom end will be around 5.5 million yen. The full-house engine with 50mm six-throttle injection and dry sump system will be over 7.2 million yen. If the TC24 can sell more than 15 units then the pricing will come down, but as there are so many parts to make in a short run they can't make it any cheaper just yet. I have a brochure which I'll scan and post up here soon.

Being a 1973 car with about five numbers on the compliance plate, there's not a lot that a 240Z has to comply with. I don't really give a rats about engineering, if the car is heavily defected I'll just take it off the road and get rally-rego.

I believe 280s also have a 55mm strut tube, can anyone verify for me?
-
The front wheels in this pic are 16x7, the 17x7.5 look very similar, just sit 6mm further out and longer spokes.
-
Seems to be some confusion here. This thread is about the coilover conversion. The 51 and 55mm sleeve kits are on a different thread. The full coilover conversion was made for 51mm tubes, but we could do the conversion as a one-off on the 55mm tubes, still with TT dampers. The price may be slightly higher as there would be some more machining required.
-
The springs are 70mm ID instead of 65mm ID. The sleeve kits are meant for use with the original tube and shorter inserts. In the case of the coilover conversion yes TT dampers are the only option at this stage. The HR type inverted monotube dampers are not suitable as there would no way to access the adjustment (at the bottom of the unit). 55mm sleeve kit photo is on the sleeve thread: http://www.viczcar.com/forum/index.php/topic,4075.0.html

Haven't found one yet.

A number of people asked for them so I had them made, but so far no-one has actually ordered a set
-
Yes that's the charge for both ways ($40 each direction). Here are some pics of the completed rear conversion. We finished up using the same length damper front and rear (15-step adjustable TT type). The springs are also 6kg/mm (336lb) front and rear, 225mm long. I've yet to do any track testing with these but on the road they are fantastic. Not too stiff a ride but much better steering response and minimal body roll.
-
We use TNT, depending on how you box them we can pick them up and return them for $80 all up. Turnaround time is three working days apart from the freight time.
-
We are now able to offer the coilover conversion service to forum members. If you send your front and rear struts to us (including top-mounts) we will convert them to HSD TT-type coilovers for $900 per pair (not including freight). Currently we are only doing 240Z (51mm) struts but if there is demand we will sort out a 55mm conversion too. I have the full kit in my car now and will post pics shortly.
-
not sure but if you have a front spoiler I expect they will need to be modified to fit anyway. The fronts measure just over 10cm at the top and the rears just over 14cm.
-
If you find 240ZG flares a bit narrow and ho-hum, these are the flares for you! I have one set of these monster race flares which will fit over just about anything. The photo shows what they look like fitted. I brought these over in my last container to save freight, so you can have them for $550 plus local freight ($20-50 depending where you are). Can also be picked up at our new shop, 13 Bourke St North Parramatta.

55mm sleeve kits are now in stock to suit 260Z struts at $299 a pair. The 55mm kits use a 70mm inside diameter spring. At this stage we have only 6kg/mm in stock but we can order different rates if you need them. There is a stepped spacer between the main spring and the helper spring, which is still 65mm ID. Call 02 8677 4890 to order or PM me.

If you're concerned about clearance the 17x7.5 +4 is probably a better option, this will sit 12mm further in without getting closer to the strut. I can get the 17x8.5 +20 in a four-stud if somebody needs them, but I don't think they are suitable for a Zed. Here is a pic of the 5-stud.
-
All Rota RB sizes are back in stock including the new 17x7.5 +4 size (pictured). We also have a new 17x8.5 +20 size in 5x114.3.
-
Yes they do. The only catch is you can't fit the front centre caps, though you could trim down the tabs and glue the caps on if you wanted.
