Doesn't look too bad George, x2 nothing Paul can't handle I'm sure. What is the radiator support panel area like? "Back from the blaster" pics didn't show that area. Hi Jason, Looks sensational. I have had those hour long moments myself when I know I should be cleaning up - enjoy it I say. As Vaughn said previously, we will try to find some time soon to come out and see it in the flesh. I am really happy for you, I know it has been a long time in the making and a lot of hard work, now you are nearly there. At one point about 5 years ago I had 4 Zeds in the shed - 240Z No 134, a 72 240Z, a 73 240Z and a 74 260Z 2 seater. At that time my second daughter had just been born and time and money were both tight. I decided I needed to rationalise my Zed fleet from 4 to 1 and share them around as I would never be able to save them all. All of the cars had there good and bad points but for me the decision was very easy, No 134 was the keeper. I think as others have said, there is something about knowing these cars were where it all began. My car is from what I have been told by a PO to be one of the first to be sold in South Australia, apparently to "Les March" a Datsun dealer of the time as his own personal car. The car spent a lot of it's life in the Barossa area where I currently live. It is this sort of history that attracts me to the car and makes me feel I have a very special 240Z, one definitely worth saving.

Hi Guys. Vaughn's mate Jeff here. Vaughn dropped by this afternoon to give me a quick drive of the 240Z. Thanks Vaughn, it was fantastic to drive a Zed again, helps keep the motivation up when mine is in the roti. See the Youtube link for a video I took as Vaughn drove off. I’m enjoying this topic a lot and thought I would throw my 2 bobs worth in. I am in the category of the ” ignorant lot” for what it is worth. In my 40’s now and have broad experience with both cars and bikes. I agree completely with the statement – Start with the best body/shell you can find and in the case of these cars the most complete (easier said than done and depends a lot on budget). Both my car and my best mates car (vorn70 – 920 gold 240Z) are relatively rust free and very complete in comparison to some of the projects on this site and still sometimes I could very easily just sell up my project and buy one already done. Vorn and I did some rough sums on his build which is almost complete and we definitely came to the conclusion that it would be cheaper that way but not maybe as satisfying in the longer term of ownership. “Complete the car how you wish and not how others want it done” or how you think others want it done. I had a pretty clear vision of what I wanted my project to be when I started about 2 years ago. Now I find myself questioning how much to spend on paint? Should I really track a low build number series 1 240Z with matching engine number? and with it fully stripped sitting on the rotisserie the question of corner cutting comes to my mind as I don’t really want to have revisit the rotisserie again in my life time. I constantly have to tell myself to do it my way and forget how I think other people would do it (again not always easy). I do want to drive it before I die. I don’t have a timeframe to complete (this century please) and I just do something else if I am not in the mood to work on it. Build threads on this site are my main motivation. As others have said - finish something before moving onto the next thing. When I had 4 Zeds in the shed needing restoring I didn’t know where to begin so I just didn’t begin. Now I have streamlined down to 1 Zed I have some focus back. I hope this helps someone with their build. Cheers Jeff

Hi All, I need a front cut or complete shell to repair my early build 240Z. Can be rusty but must be straight with no previous repairs crash repairs forward of the firewall particularly LH chassis rail, LH inner guard and radiator support panel. Thanks for all the positive comments. I may be moving it along shortly. If anyone knows anyone who might be interested in purchasing this car let me know. I did an event called "Climb the Eagle" here in Adelaide a couple of weeks ago. The event originated from when the Grand Prix was here and is basically a cruise for cars of "sporting heritage". About 260 cars, everything from Lamborghini's, Ferrari's to Datsun's. I had plenty of interest shown in the car from over car enthusiast's and the general public. The missus just can't understand what all the fuss is about, funny as!!!

The rears are rubbing on the guard inside. Only just I think. A little more ride height I hope will sort that out. At worst I will cut the front guards as well.

9.0 inch on the front. I think I may get away with just rolling the lips. I drove it to work yesterday and did get some rubbing on the front left. Might have to lift it up a little too. I am getting a slight rub on the rears when cornering. Thinking about 10mm all round.

God-awful is right. But alas it will be staying for a while yet. This is my only Z driver currently, with 3 other project 240's requiring more urgent attention.
