Thanks Vorn, I will call in a favour or 2 when I need it. I wasn't happy with the radiator support panel as it had had a hit a some stage in a previous life and needed a few rust repairs as well. As luck would have it I managed to source this piece of Datsun "UNOBTAINIUM" from a gentleman on this site. So I got to work and drilled out the spot welds to remove the old radiator support panel and fitted the new rust free one in it's place. Everything was measured and measured and checked before the new front LH corner and rad support where welded in place.

Nice work. I have tried the electrolysis once before with a rusty motorcycle fuel tank and it did a pretty reasonable job. I also look forward to seeing how you go with your zinc plating.

So once the shell was stripped we get a better look at the extent of the front left damage By this stage I had manage to source a donor shell HS30-00288 (thanks Mossy) to provide the left front corner from the firewall to the RH side of the radiator support where it joins the RH front inner guard. Getting the radiator support panel out of my car was challenging due to the damage but I got there. LH inner guard was then removed from the firewall Then the complete LH inner guard and radiator support from Mossy's old shell was removed and temp fitted to check for fitment onto my shell Starting to look better already. Yeah it is a pretty good shell except for the battle scars. It can definetely be fixed, in fact it has been fixed but we will get to that in a future update. This car was sold locally to me not long before I got it from a damaged auction. I have spoken with the previous owner and he told me he sold it to a young guy who had plans for an RB25DET etc, when he checked the odometer he reckoned it had done barely 150 miles since he sold it. It appears that the young guy struggled with the power of an L24 so maybe the RB25DET may have been a litttle to much.

The race is on George, I am relying on your soon to be newborn slowing you up a tad. I am pretty confident I have decided on the colour. However I do not want to declare the colour until I have actually bought it and sprayed some panels, until then options are still open. Let's just say it is not an original colour but I believe it will look pretty much period correct i.e. it is a solid colour not metallic. First startup video will be post as soon as it happens, hopefully this decade!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hi All, I have noticed it has been fairly quiet on the site over the Christmas/newyear period so I thought it was about time I posted my project up. I have owned this car since mid 2006 (nearly 10 years - seriously were did that go) and began work on it around Nov 2011. I have had a fair few 240/260 2 seaters in the past but this is the one that I chose to keep for the long term. I did have a total of 3 240's and 1 260 2 seater in the shed when my 2 daughters came on the scene. Reality kicked in pretty soon after the birth of my first daughter and the culling began ( you can't save them all). Being a 1970 240Z early build number with a matching number engine the choice was reasonably easy except for the slight ding in the front end. The interior is in pretty good condition with the seats having been redone by the previous owner. So the plan was to fix the crash damage and get it driving. Well one thing led to another and with my mate Vorn getting into a full on resto with his 240Z (see his build here - http://www.viczcar.com/forum/topic/11151-vorns-920-gold-240z/ ) I was slowly but surely heading down the path of a full resto. Nov 2011 I began in earnest by stripping the car down to a bare shell, geez thay come apart fast, pity they take so long to put back together. Stay tuned for the next instalment. Cheers Jeff

Stab in the dark

I have spent quite a few hours now removing body coat from the underside of my car and I personally don't think it is therapeutic. I will be happy when it is all done that's for sure. I don't have a multi tool so haven't tried that options. My weapon is a heat gun and paint scraper, gets the big flat areas done easily. I am finding it is all the hard to get to fiddly areas are the hard part. There is not much room between the wheel well and the beaver panel that's for sure.
