The small air gap, slowed the engine down, and there would be petrol leaking out from the front of the carb. I still couldn't get a reading, hoping to get some new ram tubes and give it another go. Sach
-
I rotated the airflow meter thingy anti-clock to open the gap but it still didnt work. Might be the sealing, so will invest in some new ram tubes.
-
I went and picked up a balancer today, to balance my tripple dellorto's. Thing is im not too sure how to use "properly". NOOB question i know... Refer to pics. - I had to take off my ram tubes to get a good seal, you can why (just look at em') - Car was idling at about 900rpm but the little red ball wasnt moving. Only when i got on the throttle abit it started to rise. - Fuel also comes out. Oh and i also found that most of my pump jets where blocked so spent the day cleaning and testing them, although fuel is still coming out from one of the screws. But now there is little to no hesitation (under free revving) so pleased bout that

Sulio, i have got your 46 idle jets. Unfortunately the setup Warren and i tested (and worked so beautifully when testing) wasn't so hot on the way home. Probably spend the whole day tomorrow tuning: DHLA40 Chokes 32mm Idle holder/emmulsion tube 7850.1 main jets 130 air correctors 200 emmulsion tubes 7772.5 idle jets 46 Acc pump jets 33 Sach

Sourcing parts for a 280zx dizzy other than Nissan
ol_skl_jp replied to ol_skl_jp's topic in Electrical systems
I have not No one i called carried parts for the hitachi distributors. It seems Nissan is the only option. Sach -
Modular9 - I couldn't set the correct gap, what you have circled is a notch in the breaker plate, its use is still unknown to me. The ball bearing you used is also part of the breaker plate, my one is totally shartted. Dont know where two of the three balls are, so need to replace it. Igot this image from the atlantic z website Zed660 - Thanks for the site, it didnt really go into detail about the setting of the gap, must be a real basic thing, argh why cant i get it !!! The car is running fine (i think). The whole reason i took the dizzy apart was because the auto elec i went to see yesterday said he cant re-graph it because it needs to be serviced first, wanted alot of $$$ to do it aswell, so me being a DIY sorta guy had a crack at it not to difficult its just this freakin' gap i cant sort out. I think i will leave it for now, but did want to get it done before i finalised my carbs (hopefully this Saturday). Anyways thanks for the input fellas. Much obliged Cheers Sach

Yer Gav thats what i thought to, but it doesn't budge. i don't know if its meant to rotate or not.

Hey all, bit stumped by this. My current gap looks like this. It should look this this. The atlanticz walk through of the rebuild doesnt mention how to adjust the gap, just says "The stator must be repostioned so that the reluctor's tips are all the same distance from the stator tips when rotated." Her is the URL for the write-up http://www.atlanticz.ca/zclub/techtips/distributorrebuild/index.html If anyone can shed any light on this it would be fantastic. Cheers

Just wondering if anyone knew of any place where i can get some parts for a 280zx dizzy. I have tried Nissan, their a bit dear but if worst comes to worst i will have to get it from them. I need the following parts: 6 - magnet 8 - breaker plate The magnet and breaker plate assembly is all i need the other stuff all seem to be in alright condition. I will try repco and bursons tomorrow, do i just give them the Nissan part number? BTW Nissan wanted 130 for the breaker plate and 35 for the magnet, prices aren't that bad but there was a 3 week wait as they had to be ordered from japan. Thanks

Was looking over my current jets again, went through all of them this time instead of just looking at one and assuming they were all the same in the other carbs found that 2 of the carbs were running different pump jets to the other. Two had 33 and one had 40's, im heading out now to get 2 more 33's.
-
Okay... i have tried tried Scooter's 130 main's and 52 idle's seems to be idling alot smoother now. All 3 carbs have been turned out 6 times from the lightly seated position. I am still getting a bit of "bog" when i press the accel pedal quickly, so thinking of going down to a 35 from 40 or even 30 its trial and error. However a pump jet cost around $17 each, so i was wondering if anyone had any pump jets lying around in a 30 or 35 that they would mind lend me , will have to get in contact with Sulio when he gets back from Sydney to see what is in his spare bag. Sach

Sounds good Warren, i will try get the day off work. If i can i will give you a call tomorrow. I was reading about Colortune kit today, was going to PM you to see if had was what you had. Looking forward to seeing it in action. Cheers Sach
-
I have already called him he has stock of 46 not 45 so i will put in an order now. Cheers Sach
-
I just had a look at my idle jets, the thing is theres 2 different types in each carb. Ones a 40 and the other is a 48. Thats not right yeah?
-
Mark i'll take off the cover and have another look. Also the engine is running a bit hot and there is a flat spot all the way up to 1500rpm. Im also running performance cam, which i was told doesn't help the flat spot or something like that. Im going to read through the dellorto powertune book again see if i can get a better understanding on the jets and what their sizes mean. Sach

These are the ideal jetting sizes... I will wait for some input from members before i go out and buy these jet. I can fine tune the Carbs from the ideal setup.

Hey everyone On Saturday (6/12/08) at the Z car BBQ/Photo shoot, i was asked by a couple of members what my jets where, because i'm having some trouble with my Dello's. I couldn't remember of the top of my head but found the sheet where i wrote it all down. I'm missing some information but pretty sure got the main ones. L24 DHLA40 Chokes : ? AUX Venturi : 7848.1 Main Jet : 200 Air Correctors : 110 Emmulsion Tube : 7772.5 Idle Jet : ? Idle Jet Air Corrector : 7850.1 Accel Pump Jet : 40 Cold Start Emmulsion Tube : 7482.1 Cold Stat Jet : ? Also thanks to all the members who offered to help me with this problem, this is why Auszcar is my fav. forum . I think I might use the "Jetting" program that Sulio posted in another thread, as he said he got pretty close sizes from the program compared to his final setup. I'll post up the ideal jetting sizes from the program later today. Sach

count me in...love to get a group photo

I just done it, and couldnt be happier cost me 80 or 90 dollars from the wrecker, straight bolt on (unless the guys who rebuilt the engine didnt know what he was doing and put the drive gear at a wrong angle). Spark has increased significantly, more power, alot smoother at higher revs, the list goes on, i just have to measure efficiency now should be better though. Definatly a worthwhile upgrade.

I got mine too but my postie damaged the back when he shoved it into the post box >:(NOT HAPPY -

Just an update. Well i finally got her started... . Re-adjusting the drive gear wasnt as much of a chore than i had initially thought. Still running a bit rough though (spitting and dies at idle) im guessing some tinkering with the timing should fix it. That'll have to wait till after uni exams though. Cant wait to drive her again its been a long 4 weeks Cheers
