Hi Tim, Sounds like you are settling on a 280Z now. What happened to the 240Z at Cranbrook? I just wonder if they would consider selling nme any parts? What do you think? Regards Peter -

Club stickers and donating members
silverz replied to gav240z's topic in Website Feedback & Club Discussions
Hi, Sorry to drag up such an old thread. Are there still stickers available? I think i must have been away when all of the discussion ref this was going on. I would be good to have a sticker on my car and I will donate again if need be. Regards Peter -
Thanks for the info Sexual_Sushi, However I have investigated this route before. The response from the sellers in the US was that these items could not be sent to Australia due to the length exceeding the international mail requirements. There may be other ways of getting them sent here, no doubt expensive and I am a bit worried at how fragile these items would be. Therefore I would prefer to source some in Australia if possible. Thanks again Regards Peter

Hi, I am keen to buy the chrome Windscreen surround strips (including corner pieces) for a 240Z. I do have the top section and the bottom right section. I am missing all of the left section, the top right corner piece and the joiner for the bottom at the middle. I am willing to a complete chrome strip set or any pieces available to make mine complete. If you are able to help please PM me on here or call 0458053079. Thanks Regards Peter

Thanks Mossy, I will get mine back on for now (if I can what a job getting it off!) and will look into the replacement later. Please let me know if you get these guys to make your new one so I know how it goes. Thanks Regards Peter

Hi, I spent a long day doing maintenance on the 240z, am in the middle of replacing the rear wheel bearings, sourced them locally just need to press the old outer bearing off and the new one on. Also replacing the rear wheel cylinders, clutch slave cylinder and have taken the handbrake cable off to free it up so it will disengage properly. We have freed the cable up as best we can and had to cut some of the broken plastic coating off the inner cable where it was jamming. The outer cable is also broken at one end. we will try to fix it tomorrow by clamping it on the metal end piece with a small hose clamp. I think it will come out okay, but longer term I need a new cable. My question is does anyone know where to source a new handbrake cable? And Mossy, how did you get on getting one made up? Thanks, any advice would be great. Regards Peter

E9, My advice for what it's worth. Be very carefull buying that distributor off Ebay. The seller has advertised before stating these distributors will fit a 240Z. I thought it a good deal for a brand new distributor as mine is quite worn and I could always put the Pertronix kit in later. I quizzed him to confirm it would fit a 240z and asked what it is from. The seller gauranteed it would fit my car and told me the distributor was from an L28 for a Nissan Patrol. Needless to say when I received it and pulled my distributor out they were nothing alike, there was no way it would go anywhere near fitting my L24 block. The shaft is way too long and the mount was completely different. I then had to send photos to prove it wouldn't fit, pay to send it back, put up with the sellers whingeing that it was my fault (read his ebay description - fits 240z!) etc. How was I to know it was different unless I pulled mine out and held it up to the computer monitor to compare it against his photo, even then it would be hard to tell. I sent him the model no of my distributor, which is a 240Z distibutor as shown in the Haynes manual and the seller said "I can't help you that distributor is no longer available". Got my $99 bucks back eventually but this and other transactions have put me off ebay purchases. It annoys me that he is still advertising this as fitting a 240Z, even after I proved it does not, certainly not in my case anyway. Beware, Regards Peter

Agreed, Don't bother with the 38's Sounds like whatyou need is a complete 240z set up with linkages and all. regards Peter

E9, How are you getting on with the carb/compression problem. have you worked out what it is yet?
-
Everyone has opinions on the oil to use. Most engine oil may be too heavy and cause a lack of responsiveness. a lot of people use ATF. I have been using Valvoline 2 stroke mower oil! it is lighter than engine oil and seems to work fine in my car. I have also heard that really worn carbs may require heavier oil. The original owners manual for my 240Z states to use "SAE, MS#20 or 10W-30 for damper oil. Do not use SAE #30 or higher weight oil" the oil volume is only 3cc

The carb slide I was talking about is no 12 in the diagram. Have you done the clunk test? That is raise both slides with your fingers and let them drop together, they both should fall at the same rate and make a similar clunk sound when they hit the bottom. If they don't, they are fouling on something. Regards Peter
-
Hi, When I had a bent needle (measuring rod) in my front carb the slide would often jam partially open and disable the carb. Could this be occuring? Regards Peter

Dimo, In Jul 2007 replaced the seat belts in my 73 240z with brand new original type static lap sash seat belts. I purchased them from Hemco industries in Ballarat Vic, who are professional accredited seatbelt manufacturers. I ordered the seat belts over the phone and payed by credit card. They made the seatbelts to my specification and posted them to Darwin for me. They came with all new bolts etc. Total cost including GST and delivery to Darwin was $133.19. The service was great and delivery was quick. Looking at the website now I don't think prices have increased too much. I certainly would not mess around with second hand seat belts - which I also believe are illegal anyway. Regards Peter details for Hemco are: Hemco Industries Seat Belt Division 118 Learmonth St. PO Box 444 Ballarat VIC 3353 Tel. (03) 5334 1213 Fax (03) 5334 1011 email seatbelt.sales@hemco.com.au http://www.hemco.com.au/seatbelts.html

Kalium, I'm keen to know what the noise turns out to be, from your description it seems similar to the racket mine makes. regards Peter
-
Hi Mossy, I hope you are getting it sorted. Where did you get the new handbrke cable from? regards Peter
-
Doctor Z, It is good that you can sort out the carb issues yourself. I think we all have to learn ourselves as there seems a shortage of competent people to do it for us. I know nothing about the flat top carbs myself as mine are the old round tops. Zedback, The needles in the round tops have the numbers stamped into them on the shoulder at the top of the needle (where they locate into the slide) Mine are stamped N54 which I think is the standard needle for an L24. I'm sorry I didn't answer this earlier. Regards Peter

Scott, I got a Dash mat for my 240z from Protectomat in W.A. I bought it in July 2007 for $50.00 for the mat plus $11 delivery to Darwin. They sent it promptly, it fits well and looks good, I like the way it moulds around the guages. Like you I like to protect the Dash from the sun, I can't always keep the car in the shade. Protectomat have a website www.protectomat.com.au however I couldn't make the link work to contact them through the website so I rang them on (08)9370 5088 ordered and paid for it over the phone with my Master Card and it was here the next week. They also have a fax number (08) 92725513. I hope this helps Regards Peter

New Silver 240z with wire wheels!
silverz replied to 68GTCS's topic in Introductions and Forum Etiquette
Yes, it is not hard to work out is it! -
Glad you like her Lurch. I love driving her to work, I do get some looks, in Darwin young kids used to talk to me about her in car parks they were facinated, never seeing anything like her before. Here in Townsville a guy in a LJ GTR Torana keeps coming up next to me on the way to work and is iching to have me drag him. I need my license too much to try and I think he would blow me away anyway. Sounds quite worked.

As can be seen from the photos, the front my car is missing a fair bit of the chrome around the windscreen - most of the passenger side. If anyone can help me source this it would be greatly apreciated. Thanks Regards Peter
-
Quite right zzzzed hence mine has a dash matt (standard cracks in the dash) which I won't fix until I leave the tropics. I am not really a fan of the rear window louvre either, S30's look so clean without one. However I am a realist and I keep driving it to work and parking the poor baby in the sun so I am better off leaving it on until I move to a less harsh climatic zone. Regards Peter

If I was 19 and had a good sort like her .. what can I say?
