  1. Hi, This may have been discussed before but I couldn't find it. Does anyone know if an E88 cylinder head from a 260Z will fit on a L24 block without any mods? Any info will be appreciated Thanks Peter
  2. Spartan Warrior, This maybe what you are after and its in Darwin! so there are more zeds here after all.
  3. Thanks for the advice, I have a couple of possible sources for r180 diffs already, I just need to confirm the ratios are correct 3.364:1 for a manual 240Z? and that the diff can be sent to Darwin. Regards Peter
  4. Thanks for all of the advice guys I really apreciate it. I would like to stick with the R180, as everything else is pretty stock. Gilltech's advice ref the 240k diff is interesting, I would like to make sure I get the right ratio however. Is there any external indications of what the ratio is? any easy way I can tell? My son is flying up from Queensland next week if I can locate the right diff I am sure I can talk him into bringing it with him, he wont have much luggage (typical 18 yr old!) Also when you say it has to be set up by someone who knows what they are doing to ensure the tollerances are correct etc, does that apply to bolting in a replacement diff? is it a specialist task or would I be able to tackle this myself - I am reasonably mechanically competent and do most of the routine maintenance myself, but I am no specialist. Thanks again guys I am learning heaps.
  5. Thanks for your help. Mine is just a standard diff. If I can't get it done here I will ask for the bloke in Melb contact details.
  6. Hi, The diff in my 240Z has become very noisy and requires attention. Does anyone have any advice on getting the diff reconditioned or replaced etc? I would rather have the current diff rebuilt so I know it has the same ratios etc, however I may have to send the diff down south to get this done as I live in Darwin, though I will check locally first. I am interested to here your experiences if anyone has been through this, how much it cost etc. Thanks Regards Peter

    240 Z

Hi Spartan Warrior, Yes I am in the Army. If I here of any Z's for sale in the NT I will certainly let you know. I doubt it though. I know there are at least two 240 Z's here, mine and a really nice 71 model that was featured in the Car section of the Saturday NT News a while back, there is possibly others but I haven't seen them. I also know of at least three 260z 2+2 's though there is probably more. Tou will probably have to buy one interstate like I did and have it transported up. Regards Peter

    240 Z

Hey Spartan Warrior, Good to meet someone else in the NT into 240Z's I live in Palmerston and have a 73 240Z. Regards Peter
  9. I must agree with Sooleys comments. I was unfortunate enough to deal with this company also. Despite promises of immediate manufacture and delivery when I paid for it, delivery took a month. Most of my emails were ignored, the ones that were replied to were quite nasty. Then when the carpet turned up it was a poor fit. There were noticeable differences between the carpet in the ebay ad and the carpet I was delivered. Ausclassics said they would fix it but wanted me to send my old original carpet to them to do this. I was not prepared to do this after the problems with the carpet I had ordered, they also promised to send a free delivery voucher etc. I never received the voucher. I left a negative and of course recieved a negative from them. Stay away no one needs this kind of grief.
  10. Matt, Sad as it is we both didn't get the old vents reused as we would have liked , at least it appears both our Motor Trimmers are singing of the same song sheet. As I have said I didn't have the choices here I wold have had in a major city but am more than happy with the job Andy the Motor Trimmer/Upholsterer did on my seats. Regards Peter
  11. I'm not by any means having a go at the tradesmen up here, I am very happy with any work I have had done. What I mean is you have to go with what the people available tell you is possible, when I got told the vents couldn't go back in I had to accept that, you don't have as many options as in other larger places. As for parts, everything has to be ordered in, with the internet these days I guess it's not so bad. Like I said my seats look great and I would definately recommend the guy that did them. I would definately recommend the Mechanic that did some work for me too. As for speed limits - yes there are speed limits on all roads - other than parts of the Stuart Hwy and I think the Arnhem Hwy which is 130kph all the rest are 110kph max. 130kph is sensible in my book especially when you have to pass Road Trains, don't want to take too long to get past them. Regards Peter
  12. Thanks Matt. I put the seats back in taday in the positions you told me. The upholsterer used red vinyl, it's not exactly the same as original but a good colour match and he matched the stiching. he reckoned he couldn't reuse the vents so he put round eyelets in with mesh under, which is not the preffered outcome but I got the vents back from him. The problem is I neeeded the seats done for NT rego and as I have to go away for two months at the end of this week I needed it completed ASAP. You also don't have a great selection of Tradesmen in the NT. The seats look great though. Regards Peter
  13. Thanks for the welcome guys, Yes Sulio that's what I thought someone has swapped them around at some stage. I have them out now as I tok them out for reupholstering and I will put the back in tommorow. I can't wait to hit the streets again, it's great on the open roads up here - even though there is a 130kph speed limit on the Highway now.
  14. Hi, My name is Peter and I have a 73 240Z. I live in the NT. The Z is fairly original hasn't been changed much over the years. I have just had the seats reupholstered however and if anyone can tell me if the latch to let the seat back go forward should be on the side near the doors or in the middle I would apreciate it. On mine they were in the middle next to the console when I got it, but this doesnt look right to me. Looking forward to hearing from other Z owners. Peter
  15. Hi Mike, I am the guy that bought the Z and had it transported to Darwin. Yes it is remarkably non molested and that's what I was after. It isn't perfect as it has never been restored or anything like that, the paint is original and still looks a treat and the car is in great condition for its age. The original AM radio doesn't give you much to listen to in the NT just Horse Racing or ABC radio national! but I'm not changing it. The car draws admiring glances whereever I go and runs really well, it is a lot quicker than my Datsun 720 Pickup thats for sure. I have had the 720 for years and developed a love of Datsuns from it that others find quite funny. For me the 240z is the ultimate Datsun and when I found a one owner car that had been looked after I went for it. I will have to be careful in the wet season up here as it can be really hard on cars. I took a punt as I never got to see it, I sent a mate around to check the no rust claim etc. Anyway I am happy as I got a straight car with no mods done over the years to undo.
