  1. I am confident there aren't too many members on this forum that would condone drink driving. We are all aware of the horrific consequences of alcohol or drug affected driving. However I think your response is a bit of an over reaction. I personally found it quite funny, despite assisting with the aftermath of a horror car accident just before Christmas. Lighten up! Regards Peter
  2. Hey Pauly, have you got the bigger turbo on yet? Regards Peter
  3. Sorry, You posted that Daniel had a look at your car while I was still writing my post (interupted by a friend). If an expert says the carbs need replacing then I would take his advice. Regards Peter
  4. Hi, I watched your youtube clip. It is a beautiful car, congratulations. I may be off the track but just wanted to offer my 2c worth before you go and spend a lot of money. From what I could see on the youtube clip your car did not seem to run that badly to me. Remembering the motor was cold etc, however obviously I wasn't there to smell/see the fumes , remember though fumes in the cabin is a noted problem with these cars. For what it is worth no matter how hard I try to tune it my 240Z always idles a little bit rich, however runs well and gets reasonable fuel consumption, so can't be too bad. I did not know much about these cars initially (and still have an awful lot to learn) but have managed to learn how to tune it to run reasonably. With patience and using all resources available such as workshop manuals and info from the great resource that is this website you should be able to pick it up. I don't know anything about 260Z flat top carbies however speaking to Pauly (another member here) when he kindly helped me with changing the head on my car recently he told me his 260Z went really well with them when he first got it, so maybe when they are worth having if they are in good nick. The main point I would like to make is when tuning the car, do everything else first, check the ignition timing, condition of the plugs and points (if it still has points) and make sure the air cleaner element is in good nick etc before you do anything to the carbies. You may find you do not need to totally replace the carbies at all (seems a bit of an extreme first measure to me). They may just need to be set up correctly with the float levels reset etc. Regards Peter
  5. Congratulations, What are your plans for the car? Anyway have fun with it. Regards Peter
  6. Peter, I understand how one can get attracted to anything Datsun/Nissan. I got into Datsuns as I wanted a Toyota Hilux Ute but a Datsun 720 Dual Cab came up at a more attractive price, I loved that ute and had it for nearly eight years, it was as tough as nails, though at the time a Datsun- especially a crappy old 720 was definitely uncool. It towed boats, took tons of stuff to the tip etc and never missed a beat, I only sold it after I bought the 240Z. If it wasn't for that ute I would never had got into Datsuns. It is funny how people stereotype you based on what car you say you drive. When I tell people I drive a Datsun most ask straight away, what is it a 120Y or 180B? and they have this impression I am either broke and that's all I can afford or just oddly eccentric . Generally when they see my car they are knocked out because it is not at all what they are expecting. I guess the same thing happens to you, when you tell people you drive a Skyline they are expecting some rice rocket drift car, lowered to the max with stickers all over it etc. Is the RB30 motor in the Skyline the same as the one fitted to VL Commodores? Regards Peter
  7. You are welcome Peter, I too have been put off in the past by the rudeness of a few people on this website. Luckily they are very much the minority and I have also met some wonderful people through here. Anyway love your car and it sounds like you have really put in the hours to make it what it is now. Regards Peter
  8. Probably showing my age, but that's my favourite model Skyline, good luck with it. Regards Peter
  9. Hi, For your info I have copied and pasted (see below) from a previous post I made ref how I got my harmonic balancer issue sorted. This was over 2 years ago and the balancer is still fine. Regards Peter "Hi, I recently had problems with the harmonic balancer on my 240Z. It seems after 37 years the rubber damper started to disintegrate. This meant the pulley had moved forward from the centre of the balancer and was continually slipping so the fan belt was running on an angle and the timing mark kept moving. I looked around for options and wasn't really happy getting a second hand one and running the risk of the same thing happening. I was told a new one was only avail ex Japan for around $400. I found a Company called Precision Parts in Wagga that said they could rebuild my balancer if I sent it to them. I posted the balancer to them and within a week I had it back looking like new. Total cost including GST and Priority Air Freight to Townsville was $166.90 I was concerned that the timing mark may not be in the correct position so as advised by Precision Parts we checked this on re assembly and it appears to be spot on. I am extremely happy with the result and would recommend to anyone that they check out this option if they have harmonic balancer issues. Contact details for Precision Parts: www.precisionparts.com.au phone: 02 69378888 Regards Peter"
  10. Thanks everyone for the advice. I quite sure the kit is actually for a 240Z it does not have the separate door sash rubbers for the 280Z/260Z. I am going away again for just ove a week so I will have another look at this when I return. Regards Peter
  11. Hi, I pretty much drive my 240z every day. Early in the mornings i start the car and let it run with the minimum of choke to let it idle smoothly for about 2 mins while I put my shoes on, then it is fine to drive off gently, when it is really cold I might need a little choke of another minute or so but that is it. If it is taking a prolonged time to warm up try changing the thermostat, I just recently changed mine and the difference was immediate. Could also be that the water galleries in the inlet manifold are blocked. This happened to my car a couple of years ago. The manifold water galleries had 30 something years of gunk blocking them up. Once I took the manifold off, carbs and all, flushed it out then replaced the welsh plugs in the manifold (the reason I had the manifold off in the first place) the difference was amazing, warm up much quicker and just ran better in general. Regards Peter
  12. Hi, I got the Black Dragon Weatherstrip kit off another member on here as it was surplus to his requirement. I am hoping someone else on here has experience fitting this kit and can advise me. There is probably an easy explanation for all this but at the risk of looking dumb, here goes.... Went to fit the door strips and found they look completely different. The worn out weatherstrips on my car are one piece and have a "plastic coated u channel type metal piece" (my description) on one side that just pushes over the seams around the doors to sit quite easily. However the replacement weatherstrips are just one rubber piece without the plastic coated u channel type metal piece. How do I fit this? Do I cut the old rubber of the plastic coated u channel type metal piece clean it up and glue the new weather strip to it so that it will fit like originally onto the seam around the door - to me looks like it would be hard to get it to stick and could cause potential problems later. Or do I pull my seal off all together and push the new rubber weather strip onto the seam - gluing it in place. If this is how it was meant to be done I reckon it would look pretty bad as the plastic coated u channel type metal piece pushes up against the hoodlining etc and it would not look right without it. I am hoping people with experience with this can understand my explanation. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Regards Peter
  13. Paul, Thanks very much for the info. have you fitted them yet? regards Peter
  14. Hi Paul, I cannot offer any advice on how to replace your springs and shocks. However I need to do the same thing to my car and am interested as to where you sourced the KYB rear shocks from? KYB was recommended to me however from my enquiries it seemed the rears are not available in Australia? I would be very grateful if you are able to let me know where you are getting the shocks from? I am keen to source them from Australia if possible to keep more money in the country etc. Thanks Regards Peter
  15. Sorry to reraise an old thread, however I am really keen to get my hands on this small plastic piece (the little "L" shaped bit that goes on the rear of the door where the chrome window frame goes into the door) for the drivers side if anyone knows where to get one. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks regards Peter
  16. Got my shirt yesterday. It looks great and at my door in one day! If you haven't already got one you should get onboard before they run out. I might even buy another one! Thanks to the team for giving me the opportunity to support such a great cause. Good luck to the team in in Adelaide. I will be keeping an eye on the results, wearing my shirt of course! Regards Peter
  17. Hi Pauly, I got the thermostat and gasket from Bernies in High Street Wodonga. It is amazing what he has in that little shop. From memory I think it was a Tridon brand. I know some say Tridon is no good but it is a whole heap better than the faulty one that was in there previously. I probably would have tried the 87C thermostat but unfortunately I had already fitted the 82C one by the time I saw the reply. May change it later if it is that worthwhile. Regards Peter
  18. Thanks for the info, I ended up installing a new 82C/180F thermostat (that is what the book at the parts supplier said) and the improvement was immediate. Drove around 100 miles this afternoon, gauge quickly went up to just under half way and stayed there. Heater is now working well which will help when I drive to work early in the morning. I think the car is now running more efficiently as well, I noticed now the idle was a touch too high and there was more pre ignition which I will sort out tommorow. Regards Peter
  19. Hi, The thermostat in my stock 240Z (L24 original radiator etc) is stamped as 82C/180F. Is anyone able to confirm if this is the correct operating temp for a 240Z. The car is taking a long time to warm up and in this cold weather the temp gauge stays at the bottom end of the range all the time, which means the heater is not very effective as well. When I park the car for half an hour or so and come back it requires a decent warm up again. I have removed the thermostat and it appears to operate properly when tested in boiling water. I haven't checked the exact opening temp although it was closed when I took it out. I would be very interested to know what temp thermostats others are using. Thanks Regards Peter
  20. Hi, I too need the little "L" shaped bit that goes on the rear of the door where the chrome window frame goes into the door. I need one for the drivers door if anyone has one or knows where to get them. To be honest I didn't think they would be available at all. any help would be much appreciated. Regards Peter
  21. I don't think I need to explain my user name. Love your stories Boyblunda. You are lucky to live in such a beautiful part of the world. I grew up in WA, my parents live in Mt Barker. Regards Peter
  22. Thanks Graham, Unfortunately the weather is ruling out any high country drives today. Might just go over Rutherglen/Wahgunya/Corowa direction for a look around. Regards Peter
  23. Unfortunatley looks like I won't be able to take this trip this weekend. Snow showers in the high country predicted so roads probably closed. Window of opportunity probably closed now until spring. Regards Peter
  24. Yes as it turns out I think I would miss it too much if I did sell it. I would still like to warn others be wary of these people that post that they "definitely want a Z and have money to spend etc" I was as fair as I could possibly be with this guy and held nothing back as to the condition of the car etc. I did not feel good to know this guy was never sure he even wanted a Z. Anyway back to planning what I want to do with the car and where I want to go. Regards Peter
  25. Jim, Thanks for the info. I checked it on the map, looks good. Depending on the weather and my ability to get my domestic tasks completed I might try this trip on Sunday. It will be a long trip though considering I will start and finish in Wodonga. Regards Peter
