I have a Superpro stubby holder and that works well enough, so I'd assume their offerings for car parts would be up to par as well.

The carbs I have are the British SU as well. Never had to fiddle with them before- but now that it has happened, it's really quite fascinating when you start to take them apart.

Thanks for the pointers fellas, ended up disassembling the valve float and taking it to CSC on Parra Rd. The bloke there was really helpful- turned out that there was crud in the chamber keeping the needle open, and causing fuel to spill out. Probably due to running the tank down till there was 4L left in the tank...although I changed the fuel filter before the trip to a SCA unit. My suspicion is that the battery collapsing on the hosing caused debris in the hose to dislodge and get sucked in. Ive bought new hoses to replace existing engine bay fuel hosing should this be the reason. Thinking about running in-line filters as well. Also, battery is now securely mounted in tray, so I can now corner left hard to my heart's content.

PS Thanks again to Dimitri for sending the Haynes manual last year, has come in very handy in this situation.

Hi fellas, Yesterday, I drove up my zed from Melbourne to Sydney, to replace my daily here which may be getting written off. The car drove beautifully the entire way, using about 10.2L/100km sitting at 1*0km/h the whole way However, after one swift turn too many in Sydney, I remembered that I had not secured the battery correctly after removing the drip charger to do a trial start the night before. As a consequence, after arriving in Sydney, the battery, with leads still connected, managed to dislodge itself and impact the secondary diaphragm assembly (see n. 33 in attached image). Due to this, fuel started pooling atop the diaphragm. Was with some friends at the time, luckily. At first we though the hose clamp was knocked loose, so that was tightened. Didn't work. Then we thought the hose may have been punctured so we trimmed the end off and reapplied it. Didn't work. Then after removing the hose, I noticed that the brass nipple which the hose attaches to had been knocked ever so slightly out of place. I believe this is what is causing the fuel to pool atop the diaphragm assembly. With a spanner, the only tool I had at the time, I knocked it back and this seemed to lessen the amount of time from start up that the leak would begin as well as reduce its intensity. A mate of mine suggested using a sealant or soldering it. I'm not sure about sealant due to this being a fixture through which fuel travels, and I would rather a more permanent solution than soldering- which would be quite dangerous I assume given the proximity to spilled fuel. My inclination currently is to procure a new "secondary diaphragm assembly" as well as construct a more steadfast holster for the bulky century battery. Wondering what more seasoned carburetor punters have to say about this situation. I need to repair this asap as this car is now my daily and I've caused this to happen due to my own absent mindedness.

Recommended frequency of oil change for a rarely used car

Thanks George, but the car is in Melbourne! My dad starts it up and idles it until till it's about 90°C, adjusting the choke appropriately, then revs it liberally. Unfortunately, he does not drive manual so this all happens in the garage. Previously, I had left the car not started for a period of 3 months and then it was an absolute PITA to get it started again. Since then, we've found that turning it over every 7-10 days makes it a lot easier to start. I can't think of any reason for why this is, but it's what I've observed. I get to drive it every two months or so but when I do, I average at least 100km a day ;D What do you think would be the best thing to do for the car until I finish uni? I've been planning to do this for the next 4 years (when I finish uni and can get a place with a garage). -

Thanks Nizm0, The car is actually kept in a garage in Melbourne while I'm at uni in Sydney so I only really get to drive it when I come back home. My dad fires her up every week or so while I'm away though. -

Cheers, Lurch! Was going to change the oil today, but now I might hold off for another 6 months -
Hi all, For the last couple of years that I have owned the Zed, I have been changing the oil and oil filter every 6 months. Recently, I got to thinking whether this really was necessary. As I'm in Sydney most of the year and the car is with my folks in a garage in Melbourne, it only really would do about 2-3000 km per year (mostly when I am in Melbourne). However, my old man starts the car once or so a week. I have searched the threads in this forum, and was not able to find a specific answer to my question, although the wider internet recommends an annual oil change for a car which is used as frequently and in the same manner as mine. But I'd like to hear what you blokes have to say. The car does not have any leaks and runs the stock L26 and I currently use Penrite HPR 30 (20W-60) and a RYCO filter. So, how often should I really be changing the oil/filter? Thanks in advance!
