I have a Superpro stubby holder and that works well enough, so I'd assume their offerings for car parts would be up to par as well.

The carbs I have are the British SU as well. Never had to fiddle with them before- but now that it has happened, it's really quite fascinating when you start to take them apart.

Thanks for the pointers fellas, ended up disassembling the valve float and taking it to CSC on Parra Rd. The bloke there was really helpful- turned out that there was crud in the chamber keeping the needle open, and causing fuel to spill out. Probably due to running the tank down till there was 4L left in the tank...although I changed the fuel filter before the trip to a SCA unit. My suspicion is that the battery collapsing on the hosing caused debris in the hose to dislodge and get sucked in. Ive bought new hoses to replace existing engine bay fuel hosing should this be the reason. Thinking about running in-line filters as well. Also, battery is now securely mounted in tray, so I can now corner left hard to my heart's content.

PS Thanks again to Dimitri for sending the Haynes manual last year, has come in very handy in this situation.

Hi fellas, Yesterday, I drove up my zed from Melbourne to Sydney, to replace my daily here which may be getting written off. The car drove beautifully the entire way, using about 10.2L/100km sitting at 1*0km/h the whole way However, after one swift turn too many in Sydney, I remembered that I had not secured the battery correctly after removing the drip charger to do a trial start the night before. As a consequence, after arriving in Sydney, the battery, with leads still connected, managed to dislodge itself and impact the secondary diaphragm assembly (see n. 33 in attached image). Due to this, fuel started pooling atop the diaphragm. Was with some friends at the time, luckily. At first we though the hose clamp was knocked loose, so that was tightened. Didn't work. Then we thought the hose may have been punctured so we trimmed the end off and reapplied it. Didn't work. Then after removing the hose, I noticed that the brass nipple which the hose attaches to had been knocked ever so slightly out of place. I believe this is what is causing the fuel to pool atop the diaphragm assembly. With a spanner, the only tool I had at the time, I knocked it back and this seemed to lessen the amount of time from start up that the leak would begin as well as reduce its intensity. A mate of mine suggested using a sealant or soldering it. I'm not sure about sealant due to this being a fixture through which fuel travels, and I would rather a more permanent solution than soldering- which would be quite dangerous I assume given the proximity to spilled fuel. My inclination currently is to procure a new "secondary diaphragm assembly" as well as construct a more steadfast holster for the bulky century battery. Wondering what more seasoned carburetor punters have to say about this situation. I need to repair this asap as this car is now my daily and I've caused this to happen due to my own absent mindedness.

Recommended frequency of oil change for a rarely used car
hash76 replied to hash76's topic in General Maintenance
Thanks George, but the car is in Melbourne! My dad starts it up and idles it until till it's about 90°C, adjusting the choke appropriately, then revs it liberally. Unfortunately, he does not drive manual so this all happens in the garage. Previously, I had left the car not started for a period of 3 months and then it was an absolute PITA to get it started again. Since then, we've found that turning it over every 7-10 days makes it a lot easier to start. I can't think of any reason for why this is, but it's what I've observed. I get to drive it every two months or so but when I do, I average at least 100km a day ;D What do you think would be the best thing to do for the car until I finish uni? I've been planning to do this for the next 4 years (when I finish uni and can get a place with a garage). -

Thanks Nizm0, The car is actually kept in a garage in Melbourne while I'm at uni in Sydney so I only really get to drive it when I come back home. My dad fires her up every week or so while I'm away though. -

Cheers, Lurch! Was going to change the oil today, but now I might hold off for another 6 months -
Hi all, For the last couple of years that I have owned the Zed, I have been changing the oil and oil filter every 6 months. Recently, I got to thinking whether this really was necessary. As I'm in Sydney most of the year and the car is with my folks in a garage in Melbourne, it only really would do about 2-3000 km per year (mostly when I am in Melbourne). However, my old man starts the car once or so a week. I have searched the threads in this forum, and was not able to find a specific answer to my question, although the wider internet recommends an annual oil change for a car which is used as frequently and in the same manner as mine. But I'd like to hear what you blokes have to say. The car does not have any leaks and runs the stock L26 and I currently use Penrite HPR 30 (20W-60) and a RYCO filter. So, how often should I really be changing the oil/filter? Thanks in advance!

Here is the only pic I have (forgive the fish eye)... Hope this doesn't detract too much from this thread of your build..

Hmm yes. Makes me wonder what Speedhunters used to be like (I only started reading it this year). On that note, I might get my girlfriend to start a build thread on her dc5 integra! I reckon she'd cop a column somewhere for that haha..

Lmao, I'm guessing you're referring to Ms. Croucher...

G'day Agno, don't know if you've already seen this, but I came across this familiar sight in a blog that I read. scroll down some: http://japanesenostalgiccar.com/2012/11/20/events-2012-skyline-nationals-part-02-australias-insane-1980s-nissan-touring-cars/#more-23701

Hi All, I will be using my Z as a daily driver now, and that means cold morning start ups! I was wondering if there is any prescribed warm up time for the L26. I normally just wait until the temp gauge needle moves to the very beginning of the scale and then drive gently till it is at ideal operating temperature. And if I need to use the car later in that day, I usually just give it 1 minute or so to idle if it does not need the choke to start. I was wondering what the warm up rituals of other members here are? cheers.

That wagon of that corona (1978) was the very car that got me into nostalgics (my father owned one) so I'd be damned if anyone opted to wreck it...although my dad did end up giving it to a wrecker who came in a tow truck not expecting the thing to still be running. Wrecker did take it, but it was seen polished and on the road once again a few weeks later..just can't kill em.

Yes, I do have another car up here but I miss the datto. I'm intending to swap and keep the datto in Sydney for the first half of semester 2. I will be in Sydney for a long time, however. And yes I do miss, it wish I could drive it everyday haha. So many factors indeed. The body is pretty spot on, but there are a couple of rust spots and I have no idea how fast they will deteriorate if I were to bring her up. How vital is the wash and wax?

Hey all, I was wondering if I could get an opinion on this from people who have a better idea on looking after old cars than myself. I currently live in Sydney, but my Datsun is in Melbourne. Would it be detrimental to the condition of a 260z if I brought it up to Sydney and kept it without a garage, but with a waterproof cover, even if it is during the driest months of the year (July-Sept?). Would the cold effect the car in any detrimental way? I am mainly speaking in terms of rust, I'm sure the old l26 is game for a bit of cold, however. your opinions will probably determine whether I bring her up or not haha. thanks!
