all good advice. My 2 cents would be be... Check the water jacket and access holes around the 5th cylinder very very carefully. Weak point and yes I had to blow 2 head gaskets to find that out. This is a common problem apparently on the l series. Hybridz got a big post on it. Fixed it now. L28 + N42 head + L24 grind cam + triple dellortos + ebay extractors + elec dis made 140 rwhp. But I built mine for torque steep curveys. After all usable power is better than non usable horsepower.

it also could be a scan of a photo that then wasnt fixed up because a. He didnt have time b. They dont have cold beer over there Or perhaps there was a naked women to the right of the car so they flipped it and deleted it in PS so it looked better for ebay as ebay only allows nakedness in the lingerie section... not that I look there ... much. Or perhaps it is sagging slightly to the left so they flipped it so that your eye was tricked by some trompe l'oeil effect . Or perhaps they did it to get more views on their page as it would be disseminated around the world by datto aficionados on the web which would mean he/she would have a better chance of selling a rare datsun. Or perhaps after watching too much sci fi channel the guy wanted to realise his dreams of being richard dean anderson from the stargate television series and wanted a car from an alternate reality where dattos had their intakes on the right hand side and in that reality were faster than porsches. Or he has just popped the top of the head onto the engine to show " yes it has a full engine " but put it on the wrong way around. For the humourless I know it is a flipped photo but I am giving the pp some ideas as to why he might want to have flipped photos.

What you would like your Z to look like?

those were the days :-\ When you could have tyres outside the guards of your car. When twelve slotters were king. and when you could get away with a side-ish entry exhaust. Oh and not to mention the perspex hiding/obscuring tail lights. In fact if you were to even 'look' at doing that to your car now the police would rock around and give you a ticket for individualism... err I mean defects ... immediately. -
Ok fellas I have found some wheels to replace the standard mags on a 77 260z 2+2. Sigma turbo GSR mags. nice condition but before I drop some coin on them I'd like if someone can help me with the maths to see if they will fit. 15 x 6 ( research has led me to believe that they are +20 - please pipe up if this is not the case ) So using Nzeder's post in this very same forum : Backspace = (Rim + 1" for beed to beed)/2 +(offset/25.4) BS = (6+1)/2 +(20/25.4) BS = 7/2 + 0.787 BS = 3.5 + 0.787 BS = 4.287" BS = 4.287 x 25.4 BS = 108.9mm So I am assuming these will fit but would it look arse? I have always loved the turbine look to these mags. I know 6 inch is for wimps but i dont know if I want to go the rota rb that everyone else does. Thanks for any help and taking the time to help out. Mike

Can help with the radiator as I have recently upgraded mine to this one http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ASI-3-CORE-race-aluminum-radiator-datsun-240Z-260Z_W0QQitemZ290356650617QQcmdZViewItemQQptZAU_Car_Parts_Accessories?hash=item439a9ae279&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14 There was some modification of the radiator panel to get it to fit and I am not running an engine driven fan so dont know about clearance issues. Temp gauge doesnt even get to 1/4 of the gauge travel . I daily drive in brisbane weather and crap morning/night traffic. Definitley worth it for piece of mind as well as one less thing that can/shouldnt go wrong.

s30 mike : me too ! R32 gtr or r34 gt or z32tt. Thankfully i have managed to drive all of them ( and they were well looked after examples ). R32 is too small ( i am a big bloke ) but damn fun . R34 gt rb25det is a beauty but then a sorted brazillian z32 tt with the 2000 spec front bar and a set of 19 inch work vs xx's is better. eg Yeh i know it is for sale on ebay. Yes i know it cost him 65 k . But just look at it.

i think you should ask about the 240/260/280 z pros and cons. Dont believe the hype on this board. Remember these guys are 240/260/280 nuts just like the aus300zx boys are nuts for z32/z31's. z32 : make sure that the z has had its 100k service. Ask to do an ecu check ( aus300zx has the tech details to do that.) Check that it has things like a s2 ptu and other nice upgrades. The aus300zx boys have a 4-5 page word doc on what to look for including turbo sections. Most of the cars for sale on that forum are really good for the money. If i were looking at a z right now and had the money that I have spent on my current z to spend , I would go a z32 any day of the week.

I cycle 23 k in and 23 out into brisbane... I still want a scooter. Imagine the mods. First take the panels off ( or leave them on ) and matt black them. Then out comes the pinstriping. Then some old school hotrod stickers. Then your helmet goes von dutch style. Then you do some less restrictive exhausts and mods to the engine. Sort of a ratscooter idea. In fact you heard the term rat scooter here. Seriously young lad like you should be able to ride into uni. Get a good pushy, lightness is your king. Trek or cannondale based ones. There is a good trek shop on taringa where surpass computers is. Get ready to spend around 700 upwards.

CCw classics look great on the zed. Just too exy for me. I dont know if i would want my z to look like it but damn fine find. -
wow that is great. I actually picked zeddophiles brains over the suzuki tbs. And once i see what the dellortos do on the dyno might be/ should be going down this path. Saved this thread to desktop. Mike

I have these on my 77 2+2. They let in the rain and road grime and dust. But then I do daily drive my car in all weather.

I'll only say that if you couldnt find triples for the price you wanted then you really aint gonna be able to get a ecu package like wolf3d plus all the required bits for under the price of a good set of triples. hop onto tweakit.net to find out what a haltech system will cost. eye opening to say the least.

[QLD] - Brisbane prefecture regular city meet ("lounge meets")
modular9 replied to mtopxsecret6's topic in Events
I'd go if it were a saturday/sunday afternoon/midday bbq my point is ... Most people can make daytime/bbq's on the weekends. If more people can make a weekend then suffice to say ... more people will turn up. With more people turning up that means more cars will be on the street. If there are more cars on the street then the "community spirited " residents will get angry. when you have a lot of angry "community spirited " people gathered together then there generally will be an "a current affairs " TV team present. Then we will have the host talking about "dangerous young men in barely legal datsun cars ( that should be crushed for being environmental hazards ) congregating in groups no doubt selling pot to young school kids while video taping school fights ". Where upon the federal government , not wanting to lose the vote of same said "community spirited " residents will enact an act of parliament detailing the need for groups of datsun owners to be outlawed ( like the bikie gang legislation but federal ) But then what will happen is that the UN will want to intervene at this point. Seeing that Australia is impugning the rights of datsun owners throughout this great country the UN and perhaps amnesty international will involve the US military to implement sweeping changes to the "Anti-datto legislation chapter2 c ". The Australian government incensed by this cruel and pernicious attempt at profit and greed from the US led UN intervention will of course declare war upon the USA. Of course this means a nuclear escalation of the type not seen since the cuban missile crisis. The US will start posturing with their nuclear bases targetting strategic towns such as wagga wagga and black stump . We on the other hand will enlist the help of our pacific neighbours in an all out attack on the US. We will start off with the New zealand led haka where the US military will stand and watch where upon we will start the ball rolling with a thorough beating of the US in beach cricket. However it will all escalate. This action will of course bring nuclear armageddon to the world. Once the dust settles and the melted datsuns gleam in the nuclear winter and the charred remains of the brisbane prefecture meet waft across the dried up brisbane river bed to coagulate under the broken goodwill bridge structure , a small voice will be heard. This voice being run from a screen reader in an old folks home , will be reading out the last contents of that old folks web browser. This person was browsing the Auszcar site. Reliving their days when they used to drive a real hot car known as a 240z. and they were browsing this very thread when the nuclear conflagration hit. That voice said... " if only we were to meet where no one could get up us for having a meet." So hopefully you can see from this diatribe that the need for a place where if a lot of people did turn up for a weekend bbq it wouldnt matter... or we can all die in a nuclear war. I'm just pointing out the hazard. -
[QLD] - Brisbane prefecture regular city meet ("lounge meets")

Sexual sushi : I'd be worried that a normal meet ( eg not at night and not on a weekday ) would attract more members . Hell I know if my car is still running I'd go. That might make it a larger meet and that is all we need if a bunch of auszcar members to get featured on the latest ACA "story on hoons ruining the neighbourhood and no doubt they are terrorists sponging off the govt swine flu victims " thing. Anyway a normal meet on a normal day I'd be there. Mike -
We seem to be awash in dribble ! I see you have done some pre installation ( plug going into the firewall near the battery ) . What is it ? Where will it go ? I'll be an enthusiastic watcher/envious/cross armed/fan of this thread.

I know you have hi res versions of these. Now what I want to know is when can you let us have them. I would want the first one from your second post. I assume you need to wait for the mag to come out but after that. Which mag ?

As an interstate guy ( brisbane ) I'll subscribe to this thread. I'd like to wrap it up with a great ocean road trip as well. I dont know anything about Victoria is this something like a " lets go to uluru for the afternoon " type of statement ? I am confident that my z will still be running in December.
-
nice writeup and pics. Always wondered about the rest of your car. I run an equivalent zz'orst as you though not the n1 end. I run triples in daily driver heavy traffic hell. I get popping. I dont care. Performance gain is more than worth it. Do it. You only have a little time before they legislate this hobby/past time/fun into oblivion.

Running a vl commodore fuel pump on my l28 + triple dellortos + regulator ( 3.0 psi ) + larger fuel lines ( still thinking EFI/turbo/ITB/Rotary/BMC a series engine/steam ) 50$ at the wreckers and it is noiseless. Fits in the wee little cradle at the rear of the car no worries. The holley blue is retired!
-
Remember that you not only have the initial purchase price but also the tune price. This can be a lot if you use a tuner and dyno or as small as you like. Personally if i had my time around again I'd go ITB's from efihardware and a Megasquirt system or haltech . Would cost about the same as I have paid for my triples.. Probably not sound as good though
-
Pics or it didnt happen. I have been seriously looking at the 350z but then the prices are too Porsche shaped at the moment. Hit under that magic 20k and I am jumping the shark. What have you got planned?
-
lovely work. If you make rear light garnish for the 2+2 260z I'll be there for those.

silverz : hows your tacho ? My tacho refuses to work and I'm considering doing what nzedr did with his. Just wondering what you did. I used the datsunzgarage wiring but my loom is a hack job anyway.
