  1. Just found this picture of a 280zx gearbox From http://www.geocities.com/jasonparuta/gearbox.html Oil filler is on the right, maybe someone has read an American forum and confused the 'drivers side' with left side?
  2. And thank you for the guards. Good to have a chat, next time I'll have to bring some rum Good luck with the rebuild, you're doing some good quality work there. Those interior parts in particular looked pretty schmick
  3. Haha Greg, we borrowed that 'Cement Aerator' we saw at Kennards last weekend, but it's alright we cleaned it thoroughly :S But anyway, with the gearboxes. Is it possible we have the info around the wrong way? I have a box that we definitely got out of a 280zx and the filler plug is on the right hand side (drivers side). Steve has a box he was told has a 260z box and it on the left hand side. I know it's possible that any of these boxes could have been swapped at any time, but where are we getting this filler plug info from? I have seen it mentioned a few times on this site but maybe we are just copying what someone else has posted? Just a thought... In regards to the whine the gearbox makes, went for a quick drive in it today and it's not that bad. Not trying to say that there isn't a whine, just saying that it is bearable. But anyway I don't think anyone of this really matters for a $200 gearbox haha. Good luck with the sale
  4. Hey guys Shaun and I had a look at the box today, we weren't able to test the ratio to any degree of accuracy (it's still in the car). The filler plug is on the left hand side (passenger side) which contrary to what I was told when I purchased it, may make it a 280 box? Perhaps the bell housing was switched when the previous owner had it rebuilt. Cheers, Steve from Shaun's account
  5. With shipping and the conversion ended up being $605 AUD a set. I was expecting $700+ so I was happy
  6. Yeah the whole process was very quick and professional. Emailed back and forth for about 2 hours working out shipping etc and he had them posted within 24 hours. More than I can say for some other Z suppliers I have dealt with...
  7. Just got some Subaru WRX STi R180 Side Axle adapters from Johnc over on hybridz I got 2 sets sent over, 1 for me and 1 for Greg's Bre Car
  8. Here's got a new wip video up... Looking a lot better
  9. 1 Box still for sale. I'll get quotes on some 6x9's soon.
  10. Ok finally got the sound deadener on the back so they are ready to go. I haven't had a chance to take a decent pic yet as I've been getting home after dark. Actual MSA box in car I'll PM the bank details to everyone.
  11. Could you list what those new rubbers are? Little bit hard to tell from pics. Cheers
  12. Welcome, that's a very nice looking blue in your display pic. Have you got a link to any photos?
  13. No probs mate, thanks for the info. Can't wait to see how your car turns out.
  14. Or are you saying that it might be a bit overkill for home use, I see the air compressors from a Mans Toy Shop can get up to $3500!
  15. Thanks mate, but if I did want to buy a better air compressor what would I be looking at? How much and what sort of things would I be looking for? Can you recommend a decent brand/model?
  16. Great writeup Sirpent. I have to assess my funds but I may be looking at buying a decent compressor and mig soon. You say that the $200 2hp ones are noisy and no good, what would you recommend for doing top coats? Bunnings has a 2.5hp belt driven compressor for about $350. Not sure on tank size but it did look slightly larger than those on the cheaper ones. Is this still too far on the low end? What should I be looking for? Also can you recommend a decent welder? Edit just fond this post from Lurch: Eagerly awaiting the 2nd part as well
  17. Haha I'm all for over the top trailer co-coordinating, seems to be quite the thing for people with Mini's to do. Have seen a few in my time. But anyway Greg and I drove to Lismore today to pick up a shell. Overall pretty good condition, you can see where the plates have been welded in. Only real problems are the doors and the spare wheel well has been cut out and the hole filled. Easy fix though. Now I need to buy myself a decent Mig and a compressor and I'll be good to go...
  18. Hey mate if you can't get someone closer to you I can help you out. Postage would be from Gladstone in Central Queensland though. Would just ask for postage and a $10 donation to the site
  19. A car for really little people?
  20. Ohhh a thread of L goodies I think I will take the injectors and your fuel rail mate. That probably about drains my bonus from work, I need to stop buying car parts... Good luck with the rest of the stuff
  21. Hey mate what's the rust like on those guards? I might take them if it isn't to bad. I've got a new aftermarket fuel pump I could trade Also what did you replace the brake lines with? Did you just buy the tubing and bend it up yourself or did you get it from another car/supplier? I'm going to be doing this to my project car at some point, I was just planning on buying the tubing and bending it myself.
  22. Haha what a random find, the photos are strangely intriguing. Looks painful for both the car and person
  23. Fully recon for $750 is a good price, but that does depend on what is done? Does fully recon'd just mean new bearings? Or does it mean new synchros? New gears? etc etc If it's new bearings and synchros I'd say it's a pretty good price for a shop, considering they have to charge for labour and parts. Can't help you out with his reputation at all.
  24. I saw this photo over at HybridZ recently and really liked it We have had quite a bit of rain in Brisbane lately so here's a more 'arty' one i took when I got home one night And this is my favorite photo of my car, I'm in the process of cleaning it up a bit more as I'm about to get it sandwiched in glass on some nice pretty metallic paper
