    +1 for the Gas MIG. Amperage between 185 to 200amp. Don't skimp! Spend $1000-$2000 on a good quality name brand unit. I love Lincon Electric. Don't get a 2nd hand unit - you may not know it's history... I've just bought myself a 200amp AC/DC TIG & while I'm reasonably proficient with a TIG there will be very little panelwork I'll do with it. A TIG is NOT a suitable welder for someone starting out with doing bodywork. BTW - go do a TAFE welding course. You might just learn something...

    Well that's a silly comment. Can you guess why? IMHO that thing is hiding a multitude of sins. I personally wouldn't want to pay any more that 3-4k for it.

    Peter Mac is the 'other' red L28 240Z. Gordon in his red 240z. John Toufas in his red RB25de 240Z. Jeremy Bevan is in the Green S14 (NDSOC member). There are a couple of other Zeds in there but I can't remember names...

    Been through that area recently - lots still burnt out, but the regrowth is AMAZING! Only problem is there is a lot of roadworks on the Melba HWY & apparently the local law enforcement isn't very tolerable of 'sightseers' ATM.. However, if we plot a suitable route we shouldn't have a problem

    Hi Gyra, You've pretty much got it right - but it's the CALIPER mounting holes in the factory bracket that (I believe) need to be welded up & redrilled lower down. Ash (zr240) can confirm all of this... You won't have any bias issue, but you may end up with a soft or longer brake pedal. A 280ZX (15/16") MC is a good upgrade. If you go to larger caliper on the FRONT, you may need to upgrade to a 1" MC. (PBR No: JB1419).

    Bogging up rust - bad BAD idea. Body filler acts like a sponge absorbing water, then rusting out the surrounding metal. It's false economy in the long term. Buy yourself a rego'd bomb to drive around while you fix the Zed.

    Mossy - that is the one downside to that train of thought... Johnny - If my current employer can't get me any more work in the next few weeks, I might just do that. I intend to keep this car indefinitely, so I guess I should suck it up & just do it properly the first time... Thanks for all your input guys - it really help

    It's one thing I have no feel for - spray painting. I just cannot get the action right. I'm goting to see if I can strike a deal with him & lower the price by doing a lot of the prep-work.

    Sorry guys - I should typed in laymans terms & expanded on whats happening: I bolt ALL the panels on & I set ALL the panel gaps so they are spot on. He organizes the media (garnet) blasting - so that's engine bay, ALL bolt on panels & the main body. He also does the panel beating/straighting work & also lipping the rear arches. AND the full bare metal respray. After talking to some of the Vic guys tonight - that's about mainstreem pricing. Still a lot of $ though...
