  1. where's the HQ, can find the Zed?
  2. Here is the reason for the change to CAMS. (from CAMS BOARD BRIEF 241st BOARD OF DIRECTORS MEETING) CAMS AUSTRALIAN TARGA CHAMPIONSHIP The Board approved the creation of the CAMS Australian Targa Championship to include Targa Tasmania, Targa Wrest Point, Classic Targa Adelaide, and Targa High Country and authorised the use of this Championship. See the Media Announcement of the new Title: CAMS Confirms Australian Targa Championship
  3. That is exactly what is happening with AASA "sanctioned" events. They are fun! There has been heaps of praise about how the Seemore Stages has been run. Roll up, scrut on site and off you go...no stress..plenty of fun. I can see reasons for running CAMS events and many good reasons not to, although AASA is looking better each time I look at it. Sorry for going OT, but anyone contemplating building a rally zed (whether for Tarmac or Forest) really needs to tread carefully now & comply with the regs to the letter "IF" the're looking at running in a CAMS sanctioned events above club level and not wanting to seek the attention of the scrut's & stewards (let alone fellow crews who are looking for a valid Protest point).
  4. I can see Scrutineers & Stewards gleefully rubbing their hands together.
  5. Oh dear, look out for the CAMS Stewards peeking, prodding & checking minutia. I really don't understand this as Octogon originally bailed out of running under the CAMS umbrella due to over compliance. The flexibility of AASA gave them the freedoms that competitors where asking for. I wonder if this is because Octogon would like to see there events comply with FIA International Standards?
  6. From a much earlier discussion with Alan T & working from a possible memory deficit, the works 240Z rally car that had the prototype FI was based on a 2.5L engine. They where not homologated as I understand. If Alan has his radar turned on he might tune in otherwise I'll try to track down the discussion. Incidentally, when you mention Historic, which one? Rally or Circuit?
  7. Each weight should be sprung, regardless of type. HIH
  8. RIGHT, time to nip this in the bud. NOWHERE did I say it was going to cost 10K per person. Some poster's are taking the entire post out of context. I wrote is that I would allow 10K (this is what I would do, not what anyone else wants to do), this includes fuel for 2 vehicles, some breakdown expenses (if anyone doesn't believe that your not going to get a flat or something else relatively minor, then you're living in dream land or I want your next weeks Tatts numbers, accommodation for 3-4 people, service vehicle, food etc for 2 weeks. My lot won't camp. Incidentally, If you divide 10K by 4, that's comes to 2.5K per person for 14 days or $178 per day. Some will make it shorter, some perhaps longer. Non the less it's not an unreasonable amount considering the life experience. Personally, I reckon that I'd come home with change, but at the very most my ass won't hanging out of my pants by bad budgeting. As for sharing expenses, some will, some can't. In my case I'm left holding the entire bag. Anyone else who wants to quote me out of context can continue to flame, but remember, my original post was just a reality check....
  9. I'll be equally blunt as well. What do you see the cost associated with such an event? It's not a Sunday drive on good tarmac. You've got people talking service vehicles, so it's already up to 4 people per car (2 in a zed & 2 in service). I know from practical experience that any long distance event costs. even if you camp all the way, it's still going to cost big $$$ From last year, the BP rally which was only 3 days for 4 people 1 Competition car and service vehicle worked out at $1000 per day. This included accomodation, meals, entry fees, etc. It left a very empty feeling in our back pockets especially after we crashed out on day 2. I'll make some enquiries on how much crews spent on the Red Centre Rally that was held a couple of years ago, don't faint when I post them, even camping out I doubt you could do all of that under $500 per day. But Mike
  10. ah shiver.....the Irish version of manure....
  11. shiver !!!!! I wrote "shit load!!!!"
  12. The reality check will be in the cost & time to do this. My guess is 2 weeks, $10K and a long piece of string. If properly put together it COULD attract a lot of international attention. The 50th anniverary of the S-30 (1969-2019) could be the perfect catalyst for this adventure ! Be prepared to spend a shit load of money either way.
  13. I'd be looking at returning via the Flinders Ranges (Wilipena Pound)- Broken Hill and expect gravel. But then again all those hours sitting in Race seats mightn't be a good idea.........
  14. Any S-30.
  15. Including other Marques would take from it's uniqueness. Personally, I'd like to see it finish at Ayers Rock rather than Alice. There is a greater variety of accommodation available, a shot of Zeds all lined up with the "Rock in the background is the most appealing aspect of making this trip. Be prepared for gravel....might have the Rally car ready by then.....
  16. My 73 240 & 77 260 has the plate on the firewall.... where has everyone else got their's ?
  17. I have no idea. But...something in that shot strikes me as odd. The placement of the labels/plate. In all the zeds I've owned, the compliance plate was on the firewall. The factory plate was placed on the strut tower, in the same position as the "mystery" decal. Opens up a can of worms, original placement of plates/decals/labels..
  18. Wasn't Air Conditioned was it?
  19. If Alan T's radar is switched on then we can find out the UK & Euro position...
  20. Don't be confused between Local delivery Compliance Plates and Factory ID Plates. They where located in different places in different markets and fitted in that market to prove that the vehicle was approved for use by the design rules of the day. For instance in the US the Plate was located in the door arch, whilst the Aust Plate was on the firewall. Not sure where the UK & NZ plate was located, NZzedder can enlighten us on that.
  21. There are 2 types of caps which will fit. One is shorter in the spring one longer. ie one is made for an overflow tank, the other is not. I can't remember which one is used with a overflow tank, but there is a difference. Might be your problem.
  22. Might be worthwhile checking to see if it's pressurising via a head gasket leak. Leave the rad cap off and look for tiny bubbles after the engine comes up to temp and the thermostat opens.
  23. Just a long shot, but as your still using points, it could be the condenser. The Gemini problem I've experienced first hand and it was a head scratcher, very frustrating...very much like this. Good luck..
  24. Have you checked the half shafts ? You'll get a clunk from them as well if the "U" joints are worn. My money would be on the half shafts....
  25. Nup... try 3.....
