Well, I guess you can believe what you want to believe. The question was asked and I've tried my best to point you in the correct direction. As to how you want to interpret history is entirely up to you.

Just by chance an OP has asked about the 25th Anniversary Model on Australian 300zx Forums Here is the link to the 300zx produced in 1995 celebrating the 25th anniversary of Zeds... http://www.aus300zx.com/forum/showthread.php?t=296777

The Factory Restored cars where LHD. It was a mis-nomer to call them Factory Restored as they where actually restored by various Zed restorer's for Nissan USA. You'll find a read up on the IZCC site. As for 25th anniversary in OZ, well by my calculations that would be 1995. I can't remember Nissan doing anything for it apart from a possible launch of a '95 model Z32 with a recently (non factory) restored 240Z (something in the back of my mind seems to think that something like that happened, but I'd have to pull out to many club mag's to verify it. Someone else might be able to nail it.

Deal done, I'll book a 3 week holiday with the balance..... On a serious note, I had a test drive of a Z32 today, not sure if I'd be off topic posting questions here about? -

Seem to have generated a lot of useful information, thanks guy's. The repair bill is $8.7k, payout was $7.7k, Panel Beater prepared to do it for the $7.7k. Z32 8K, and will beat dealer down to swap cheque for car... Now I need to store it and a 240Z.....did see a thread on storage, looks like the way forward. Next day off is Tuesday, have arranged for my mechanic to go over it first. Just need a 280 to complete the early model collection! Scoota, how much did Dale get quoted on the repair? It's interesting collecting this info for all of us as we then have a BD of what to expect if the worst happens. -

Pic's are up, if anyone is interested. You'll need to scroll back to my earlier post. Better res is available, just didn't want to hodge the net uploading. Interestingly, I asked my mechanic if it was still roadworthy, the answer ...yes. Hatch seals OK, No cracked lens, just looks pushed in on the bumper. Either way, I'll keep it, whether I repair it later ot not remains to be seen....the 240 is the priority. As to the Z32...... I'm leaning towards buying this one, can't do anything until tuesday, so, I have a cooling off period in my head. Pleased to have some positive's about the Z32, I'd really be worried if it was all negative. I guess I should be safe (relativly) with Dealer warrenty! OT from the "240/260Z" club, but does anyone have the stats on how many come into Aus, I suppose we only have the Aussie delivery available and the pro's and con's (Jap vs Aussie) delivery? Once again thanks for all the input... -

Thanks guy's for the thoughts. I should point out that I already have 240Z, although it's stripped back to bare shell ATM. So I wouldn't be zedless, in fact some of the DNA could be mixed in getting the 240 up to scratch! I'm in no rush to sell or otherwise dispose of the 2+2, it's drivable and with no cracked or damaged lenses, it can't be called un-roadworthy. at the end of the day I need a car to get around, hence my thoughts towards a Z32. I was expecting most if not all Z32 to be flogged about, I've found one in a dealers yard for the right $$$$, 6 months reg and 12 months warranty. Could it be such a bad deal with 12 months warranty? I'd certainly be getting my mechanic to go over it looking for the obvious, but is the obvious the same as what we look for in the early zeds? -

Doesn't look bad, until your close up. I wonder if it would still pass a roadworthy? -

will do tomorrow, can tell you the chassis needs straightening, small crease in the rear quarter panel, with the resultant change in steering geometry. -

Worst part is that the 2+2 is totally drivable...if it wasn't I probably wouldn't hesitate. -
Well, I guess it had to happen eventually, at least I wasn't driving. (then again it may not have happened if I was)? My little baby 260Z 2+2 was rear ended, which has resulted in a $8.7k repair bill. Luckily I'm insured and received a payout. Now the burning question close to my heart, do I repair a car I have had for 20 years or update to a Z32? (no extra cash needed). Having just spent 4k rebuilding the engine, a near perfect body which was totally restored 10 years ago has left me sleepless for the past few nights. My 240Z is now totally stripped, and a ground up resto is in progress...I can use some parts from the 260 for this, I really question if I do I really need a 2+2 as well? How does one part with something that has provided fun and enjoyment, been part of the family, watch the kids grow up, been through a divorce plus a couple of g/f's as well, not to mention the addition of grey hairs... Well fellow zedophiles, what would you do if placed in this situation? Take the money and upgrade to a newer model knowing that you still have a 240Z with or ????

Are they any good? That's subjective as to who you ask... I run both (in a 240 & HIF in the 260, the 260 purely for originality, not performance). which performs better, the 240 of course, however the HIF are the most mis-understood carbie in the Datsun range. Introduced as a stop gap measure, prior to FI, they where very mis-understood by people who serviced them, as they where very much more complicated than the standard SU's. If properly serviced, they would perform as good as then 240 SU's, if neglected, then the corresponding decrease if performance would be noticeable. If it's performance you're after them I'd be looking at FI first, then triple something, then 240 SU's lastly HIF's. Can't wait to read other opinions.....

May 73, if the rego is to be believed. The vehicle is stripped down to the chassis at the moment, it's out of my garage and in the hands of my magician ( I call him that as I was nearly ready to crush it until he claimed that it could be restored just like magic, I suspect that the only magic that will be happening is the lightening of cash in my wallet and the stealth that will follow for the next 2 years of the resto), hence I'm unable to check it immediately against the factory plate. From memory, the model year changed mid year, which would have made it one of the last ones imported, however, that theory was just shot to pieces with your Nov/73.
-
Gone to god I would expect. Although there appears to be a discrepancy in the serial number series ( I've never seen consecutive numbers in the later years) which makes me think that the consecutive numbering and export market may not have been the same in the '73 series.

Sigh..... :-\ This has been discussed ad infinitum on ClassicZCar. (see the link I posted prior). Unfortunately, it all gets lost in the passage of time, this occurance happened approximately 13 years ago and no doubt will be raised in another 13 years by another reader who tries to unravel the facts! The previous owner of 004 (who I knew personally), had all the details that supported the claim, he was very proud of being able to display them when the car was on display in the occaisional "Show & Shine" This is the same car that is reported in Zhome by Carl Beck the US Z Car guru, who had been in contact with the owner. Before anyone ask's, I do not know who brought the car and where it went to. (There has been speculation that it's in Japan, draw you're own conclusion's) Now as to the actual build date, it's easy to presume that it was '69, as it followed 003. Logically, why would you halt the build in October and recommence the next year? I wouldn't, wouldn't you? In the end, I really don't care. Like 004's past owners, I'll shut up and let everyone else draw their own conclusions....
-
Bluerat, don't confuse the datto with the zed. There are no pre '69 zeds. The misconception that you heard was based on the Datsun 1600 (Datto). I'll preface the following by saying this happened in the Rally world, not circuit, so the outcome may have effected the circuit boys, it may not have either. There was a protest made after the running of a certain HRA rally (don't ask which one) about the substitution of a 4 speed box with a 5 speed box in a 1600, until then, all the 1600 owners where running in HRC Cat2 (68-75). The protest discovered that the 5 speed was a homogated option from the Sports 2000 which was allowed to be fitted as a option, it also discovered that the 1600 was built and homogated prior to 68, which then allowed them to compete in HRC Cat 1.(which really peaved the protesters and still to this day brings cringing faces when mentioned in the right company ) As to pre 70 zeds in Australia, I'm know that over the years that this has been debated (many times in ClassicZcar) that it was agreed that 004 was the earliest and possibly didn't arrive here until the 1st Quarter of 1970. The actual month has never been established, only presumed. There is little doubt that it certainly had been built in '69, as to it's actual location in '69(Japan or Australia) is unknown. It may have been in Australia in '69, it may not have. As for the register in Zhome, forget it, it confuses everyone with it's numbers of HLS-30 and basically ignores the fact that there where S-30's built pre 70. In actual fact until Alan T took some of the claims to task, it actually distributed mis-information and didn't reflect the actual status of the S-30 and it's many variants. We can all thank Alan for his stand otherwise the history of the S-30 would still be distorted. There are many excellent threads and discussions on this however make sure you read the right information otherwise you may fall into the trap of believeing a certain German was responsible for the S-30...... regards...

Just a slight correction/addition. We did get the emission control's on the 78 model. Mine was bogged down with airpump, air injection and of course those wonderful SU's that Niassan had left over. I'm of the opinion that the last model year of the 260Z in OZ was made up of any gear that couldn't be used in a 280ZX, needless to say that included all the accessories that came on the 260 block. Thankfully, they must have used all the bumpers, otherwise I guess they would have been value added to our domestic import. Roderz, welcome to Melbourne, unfortunate with the weather the past few days, hopefully it will clear up by the GP...
