  1. do you have a multimeter? as i'd double check that red actully is what you think it is. and play around with what voltage you get when you do different things on the yellow wire i put a cd player into a friends car and what appeared to be ground and the multimeter confirmed ended up being the lights, so luckily it just kept blowing fuses when the lights were turned on and i just grounded the player straight to the car body when i realised.
  2. i was looking up what a placard is and came aross this "From January 1, 1974, all vehicles that comply with Australian Design Rules (ADRs) have a tyre placard attached" which should mean my 260z has one, but i cant' see it (although it is dark, or could of just been removed?) and yeah i'd keep my stock rims, just would need a set that would clear any brakes i end up using, therefore i was thinking get some superlites in the largest legal size and then have a nicer set but sounds expensive hehe i wouldnt put in an rb without an engineers, just was thinking it was an interesting statement, for a sprinter do u need an engineers for putting in a 4age?
  3. reminds me of a track i went to somewhere when i was a kid , pity the ones i had at home were no where near as good
  4. i am just reading http://www.vicroads.vic.gov.au/vrpdf/rdsafe/VSI%208.pdf and the section on wheels says replacement wheels cannot be more than 25mm (1"?) greater than the widest wheels specified by manufacturer, then it says the overall diameter of any replacement rim and tyre must not be more than+ or - 15mm than standard, but must be in accordance with recommendations in some manual. what is the size of the stock rims on a 240/260z? 14X6 or 7? the bit on replacement engines says "an engine which is not of the same type offered by manufacturer of the vehicle as orginal, but is similar in power, weight, and emission standards to that of the orginal engine may be fitted - provided no alternation of the vehicles frame or strucutre is involved (in which case a certificate must be supplied) would this mean since you can mount an rb engine using its stock mounts (just it puts it in a dodgy place) that this wouldn't need a certificate? hehe
  5. how much did the place you got them from want for the brackets? is it just a normal r31 or is there something specific you have to look out for (besides the bracket )? when i have time next i might go down to pick pay and go in ringwood and pull them off one of the many r31's they have sitting there! i'm guessing you're going to use the r31 calipers too? in regard to front brakes i'm going to use the rotors and pad's i just bought atleast for a bit! i need to get my car on the road so getting to uni doesn't take over an hour! starting tomorrow, so depressing
  6. yeah it looked very nice before he put the flares on with the panasports, it's amazing how much it changes the appearance!
  7. its pics like that orange car and these that make me want to jump on the watanabe wagon, and i'd be very happy if my zed turned out like this, makes me want to get it painted dark blue ALOT
  8. well here's the last pics of the crx, it is going to go to a honda wrecking yard, the dodgy guy didn't have insurance so am only going to get market value to a max of 4g for it, which i guess isn't to bad, but its more the annoyance of it all happening, he's the last pics of it
  9. the papers i was given made it unclear whether or not i could, so was at vicroads today with gf transfering her car to her name and asked and they said you can't with defected cars so that sucks, i wonder if i can unregister it and semi clear the defect that way so its just an unregistered car? i got a bit of towing practice first moving the crx around until we got temp rego on it, i just dont want to twist the frame in any way, so should i not tow it?
  10. i finished my grill off, and installed it only to realise i missed some spots! so i'll brush some paint on those spots tomorrow and you can see my quality repainting of the front spoiler and the spots i didn't do, i should atleast take off the number plate and do it again! i just did it as i had lots of paint left over and it looks alot more black... it is harder to put in without removing the bumper than the normal one was to take out, i think its due to the fact the main body of it is higher, i still think they sit on the car a bit weirdly, but it looks nice
  11. my car will hopefully be roadworthy within two weeks, but i'd say there is a large chance it wont be, i have to get it trailered or towed everywhere which is going to be fun. and i'm not sure if i will be working or not though...
  12. yeah i've been thinking of buying some of the new style superlites, i saw them on this guys blue sprinter in 15" when i was getting second hand tyres for my RWC and they looked pretty nice, i've asked for the price at a few places and they've been saying around $1100 if i could get them for $800 i'd go order a set today!), but if it isn't over 200% more more to get some ROH wheels/wats i'd prefer to just use tax money also (for some reason woolworths haven't given me my group certificate yet, its annoying me, i want my money!), just the only issue would be i'd need a set of wheels that would also pass a rwc (for any issues in the future), but then also some that clear any brake upgrade i do end up doing so a set of superlites would be good! what size wat's are you going to get nate? same sizes as sr240z? the largest we can go is 16X9 yeah (2" larger in diameter and width)? i guess it would be hard for them to measure the width of them though yeah? except for the sticker which says what they are... i just need to get my car down to toperformance to install the springs and shocks i've got, or get a spring compressor and try doing it myself, but i dont have much time left these holidays...
  13. having a chrome rear panel on either of those two colours would also look pretty sweet
  14. how much was this out of curiosity? mines nearly finished my crappy repairs, but it wont ever look this good!
  15. yeah if only it was my car hehe, http://www.classiczcars.com/photopost/showphoto.php?photo=3779&si=yellow is the orginal image, i reakon the silver along the bottom makes it look pretty special, and i'm yet to see a car with a body coloured rear light panel that looked good
  16. thanks sulio, i was thinking that mayb they had a database they looked up which told them the minimum rotor thickness for each car etc, but taking off the old ones i see its just written on them i ended up just buying stock rotors as they were around $60 each, couldn't justify the extra price for having some slots which you can't even see through my current rims! after the rwc i think i'll look into getting the spacer to use the vented rotors though thanks for the info PZG302, haven't had any luck with those number though yet
  17. looking at the colours i could roll on, atm i like the idea of this colour, basically the one seen on the miura concept, and the silver along the bottom of the sides seems to lift the car also. i'm hoping to keep my orginal paint job for longer, but when its time for more major body work i'm going to give rolling it all a shot, and if i dont like it go for a dark blue or grey. the stock front end on that zed looks alright, kind of like a bullet, and pretty similar to what an NA mx5 looks like side on. the front spoiler bits on the miura concept would look nice on it while keeping it old school, and yes i like the miura concept.
  18. thanks alot i'll give it a shot, so all of those should work and would be a good upgrade? i guess thats actully a stupid question huh? are any better than another? thanks again!
  19. calling up places today i haven't had any luck finding the 15/16 master cyliner, has anyone bought one before in Aus? i was told no one in australia makes them?
  20. lurch do these fit under stock 260z rims? from what i remember you had them on you're car so i'm assuming yes? thanks!
  21. thanks for the tips! would there be any issues with SICAFLEX taking off some of the paint or anything if you ever wanted to remove the badges?
  22. sorry, all these questions could be answered in the hybridz thread...guess i was just being lazy and i want/need this car on the road i think i might buy some 16" superlites, but it feels like a waste when its not what i really really want, but then what i really really want won't pass RWC, would these brake upgrades? (when they look up their table of what width the rotors are ment to be and they see its vented instead of solid?) it doesn't appear to be obviously not standard, but say i went for the vented rotors, would it be best to get the spacers machined locally? mayb going for the solid rotors would be easiest for now as it doesn't require a spacer and less obvious again? or should i just keep the brakes stock? i have to replace all this stuff for the rwc and my thought is i may as well upgrade at the same time... "15/16 master cylinder from a '79 280zx (it will have 15/16 stamped on it) and SS brake lines. Also get some ready make hard brake lines in 3/16mm pitch at 6" long" what are SS brake lines? for my road worthy i have to replace the flexible brake lines, so i'm assuming SS brake lines as special ones of these? (just googled it, so its braided stainless steel? do i remove my existing ones to be used for the measurement or?) i'm thinking i'll just go for solid rotors for now, and if i ever do an engine conversion i'll use the brakes from whatever halfcut its out of. did you get a price on the just sloted rotors from DBA sulio? and nick i may be interested in the hilux calipers if they are those s12+8 ones? are they painted red so they work better? hehe
  23. which vented rotors would you use? like where from (what are they off? the 4X4? toyotas of those years?)? how much? do these fit under the stock 260z rims? are they just simply a bolt on conversion or is there more to it? which master cylinder would be best to use? the early 280zx ones? would new brake lines be needed?
  24. since my crx was written off (well badly damaged, getting quotes and trying to work out insurance stuff atm) i thought i better get a move on with the zed so i have a car to get to uni in, in a week! so i didn't get the panels completely smooth, and decided to not add any turps to the paint so i'd only have to do 1 or 2 coats, and then later on when i have time i'll jsut sand it back and make it perfect. still have to fix up alot of other things to do with the front end of the car so it will be good to have this out of the way, and its looking good, a bit orange peely, but it will do the job well enough! as long as the masking tape worked... there are a few patches on the door higher up that i dont want to paint black so its a bit of a pain...
  25. well i thought while i'm playing around with filling up the rust on my car i should put on the fairlady badges i bought, i was just wondering how to remove the 260z badges that are on there at the moment. i can't feel anything holding it in from the back, so should i just lever them off or is there a better way or something special i have to do? thanks in advance -evan
