  1. and the last ones
  2. as you can see the truck was still going pretty fast! i am not sure if the car behind locked its brakes or not, i didn't have any issues stopping in time and left the right gap infront etc, so i was pushed pretty far, prob due to the weight? and as the car behind was an older skyline i'm thinking it didn't crumple that much so my car absorbed alot of the impact
  3. well the crx was just written off in a 5 car pile up, will upload pics sometime, so thats dam annoying, glad it wasn't the zed, wish it was my dads dodgy car that was written off though, and so does he! we were all stopped at lights and a tow truck didn't stop....so time to get the zed on the road faster...sure aren't having much luck! its also more annoying as apparently the company gets to cash in the rego, and it was like 2 weeks into the year it had, then it had new tyres and a new clutch...and it was fairly fun and cheap to drive too!
  4. the fluid was still red (apparently thats what its ment to be?) her parents generally get the car serviced but they no longer use it, and the last time my gf picked it up the mechanic suggest she buy another car as the whole thing will die sometime. its been hit in the back twice now aswell as many other small things things, like while changing the alternator in it i found a fair few bolts were missing on one side of the cars susspension...
  5. thanks for the suggestion, i haven't checked or done anything, since i didn't really have any idea of what to do, but the level of the fluid seems to be correct when its both cold and hot, so ohwell, the hunt for a new car for her is on, until then she can wait for it to warm up hehe *edited so it makes sense
  6. have you had any luck Trolley? after doing a couple of coats (nowhere near as many as they do, but to get it perfect would need to do the number they suggest) it seems pretty hard to scratch off, and only really does when my nail gets caught on a small bit of dirt etc, as it needs to b sanded again. so i think it comes down to how well it can polish up after being sanded, so i'm off to buy a polisher tomorrow! that orange peel section sanded down well and with a thin coat over it it looks pretty perfect, but could still be better, although with enough practice and a large enough area i reakon this could look really good!
  7. This isn?t zed related but thought someone here might be able to help out, my girlfriends (parents) car (1987 Toyota Cressida) seems to have lost all torque, particularly when it hasn?t warmed up. When the car is turned on, in neutral it revs fine, when put into drive it doesn?t even have the power to go up an extremely small incline (I?m talking one so small that I could push the car up by myself faster), and if the car is on a slightly steeper hill it now rolls backwards, where previously the car would go forward (faster than it now does on a small incline mentioned above) on its own accord, or atleast stay still. Also, while going up a large hill at 80km/h at around 4000rpm it has now completely dropped off to under 20km/h a couple of times, and it wont change down gears or anything. After the car has been running for at least 10mins it can creep up the small slopes and eventually starts running ok, but it?s never how it used to be and hardly has any torque at all She is not wanting to spend anymore money on this car as it really has to much wrong with it, goes through petrol way to fast, and is way to big for what she needs, just it would be handy if it could keep on going for a bit longer while she looks for another car. So am wondering if this is possibly the timing of the engine etc, or if you would suspect it?s the gearbox? And suggestions that could possibly help it run better? thanks -Evan
  8. the worst rust on the body is at the front of the rear wheel arches, then the front fenders which i guess if it ever gets that bad can just be replaced? (or is there something behind there i should be worried about) as thats my attitude with the doors...i was hoping to keep the removal to below the line, but as you can see on the driver side it has creeped above it (was your car orginally green?)
  9. i'm currently playing with the same area on my car (i thought you were selling yours?) i think i'm lucky in that most of my rust is confined to the doors (i hope), mayb i should poke around more... are you planning to weld new metal in and not use bog at all except to smooth it or ? i was just planning to treat the rust and bog away, i'm happy doing just that on the doors but i'm worried about doing it to the actual body and having it spread...i'll take some pictures
  10. it looks nice, but i also liked your old one, all three of those styles are nice front spoilers! it changes the look of the car quite a bit...take the verticle bits off the bumpers i like the gloss black flares on your car, i have no idea if i want mine gloss or matt, i think whatever this roll on paint ends up being!
  11. i just went and looked at it again and it isn't as bad, but still not as nice as the first coat, so i think my mixture wasn't the best along with using the old roller, but i'll see how it dries.
  12. i'd say this stuff is glossier than the stuff in america, i'm happy with how the first coat dried, but the second coat went on badly, i think its because i'm using the same roller from yesterday and its put lots of small bubbles in it that can't b popped...or mayb its because of my watering down ratio, but i tried various ones next to all of it with the same issue...i did mix up alot less paint this time as i wasted alot yesterday, so mayb i didn't stir it enough
  13. i'm painting on these doors to stop them from rusting basically as atm the bare metal parts are doing just that! i'm not wanting to put them on my car anytime to soon as the paint on the majority of the car is quite nice so i'm just going to bog up the bottom of the doors and paint it black with this stuff, well thats the plan anyway! the is killrust, made by wattyl, i ended up buying black instead of a colour as bunnings only currently stocks black and white, but they said they are going to get the base colours soon so it can be tinted, and they have dulux's rust paint which can be tinted but i liked the look of this one for some reason, i think coz they had a sample board of the colours up and they were ppprrrreeetttttyyyy after reading through more pages on the moparts site there were people from other countries trying different paints and it seemed as long as they were an oil based enamel rust paint it went ok, so i thought i'd give it a shot instead of chasing down the rust-o-leum paint, as its not ment to be as good as tremclad anyway in terms of durability. the door has now been sitting outside for 8 hours (it says it takes 16hours before you can put down another coat, and not to let it get below 10 degrees...but i can't help that!) and i thought i'd test to see if i could scrape it off easily, i started with the medium dilution bit and with the back of my nail nothing, but with the front when i pushed hard i could peel it off, i then tried on the thinest bit and it wouldnt' budge! so i think this stuff is going to be good enough! i'll give it more time and coats before testing it more, and try to get it as thin as possible without running consistantly. there are no lines from the roller, when you roll it on the whole thing is covered with bubbles, which they say u roll over it again a minute later and they pop, i found this semi true, but it also created more bubbles, so i ended up just blowing on them in some sections, and in others i kept rolling over them, so i could see the different finishes if any. you can't see lines from the roller as it kinda does all thin down and the bubbles spread out and overlap so there are no distinct lines. because i am doing this just out on a veranda alot of dust has blown into it, its ment to just sand straight out so i'll see how it goes. i used the rollers closest to what i thought they were discribing on the net, just short little white foam ones, they are higher density but not really that hard, and i couldnt' find ones with one rounded end, although i can see how it would help with certain parts. i've only tried doing what was photographed, and i had left over paint so decided to paint a section of my now grey front spoiler to see if it sticks to dirt! i'll post more pics as i continue!
  14. hmmm i should of tried rolling the paint on straight on one bit then...ohwell the bit in the marked out square is thinned the least then you can kinda tell which bits are the most thinned, it started to run on me etc. looks like its going to work, depends on durability i guess! they were saying it takes 3 coats to get a solid colour, and when i had it the thickness where i'd say it would take 3 coats it was running so ? they only have black and white at my local bunnings atm, they said they only have just started to stock it and are going to get the base coat colours soon, they have a colour thats made to match colourbond's "woodland grey" which might look nice, or mayb one of the blues, either new ultra blue or ocean, then there's some other colours which would look nice and match the colour theme of this forum and probably look nicer as solidcolours than the other ones i mentioned! so i'll keep rolling it for now and hopefully have some nice results within a week! here's some pics of the first coat just after i painted it and have left it to even out for a bit
  15. just for anyone else as stupid as me mineral spirits = mineral turps the moparts thread says as long as its not acrylic enamal it should generally work, so if it says to clean with mineral turps then it should work fine. the only thing i dont get now is some ppl say they are using an Alkyd based paint, and others say it doesn't mention it on the can anywhere, and the main guy seems to keep saying different things. i skipped foward alot of pages and they start talking about marine paint, and wattyl make a marine paint thats a alkyd enamel, but it says it has a high opacity...i think its time to just buy a small can and test it out!
  16. thought i'd stop in at bunnings on my way past to see what they had in terms of rust paint, they dont have tremclad or rustolem but i'm thinking i'll see if the wattyl one, Killrust, works. it says u can dilute it 10% with mineral turps...is this the same thing as mineral spirits? looking at the thinners i couldn't find mineral spirits, only metho spirits...so i'm confused! going to go and buy the things tomorrow after reading the ingrediants more and looking up what it should be, or i might call that place in bayswater first...
  17. wow all of those ones sulio look nice! well i loved that blue 240z thats in japan from when i saw it and it made me want to eventually make a similar wide body kit for my zed, but now it seems like a huge waste of time when the fairlady flares give it such a tough classic look! sr240z is a classic example of one sexy zed, but i'd like mine to still keep the chrome, and mayb even green, there's just so many good looking ones out there it's hard to choose! i'd like me car to be modern yet classic, so finding the line is what i'm having difficulities with, along with making up my mind :? fender mirrors are something i'd really like to get to finish the look, still deciding whether to go all out on the car or just keep it stock and buy a go-kart/lotus 7 for weekend fun...deep down i know i want the zed done up
  18. mayb this is where bmw got inspiration for there hardtop version of the z3's? hehe, but yeah ugly is a good word to discribe that 240z...i wonder what the back looks like?
  19. yeah it aint gonna b painted anytime soon, and nothing to extreme if it is. just got the rwc finished on the crx and its being registered tomorrow so that takes alot of pressure off! ended up costing just under $2g so not to bad if u ask me! but it is 2g less that i now have to spend on the zed i dont want to spend a whole heap on the crx but what brand of coilovers would u recommend for it nate since you musta looked into it plus from the crx forum their idea of coilovers seems to be just something you need if u have 18" rims on it :S the braking of the crx is very sensitive, and its all very light feeling compared to the zed, and it doesn't feel like ur actully driving it, but this is just my thoughts after driving it 5kms hehe.
  20. those two companies information i posted up are from the rust-oleum site and are listed there as distributors, when i have a car on the road i'm hopefully going to go grab me a can and paint these doors along with the bottom section of my car. here's a lists of availble pre-mixed colours for one of the types used http://www.rustoleum.com/Product.asp?frm_product_id=18&SBL=1&dds=16 but there's an industrial version of it thats a bit tougher or something, its getting more confusing the more i read it! i'm thinking i should go for the gloss black so i can see just how glossy their gloss paints are in person

  22. dam laws changing in 7 days huh? yeah its one of the things i needa look into...where have you heard about it from? its not that most exciting video but it sure has enough power someone's selling a set of 14X6 type r watanabes that will fit on the crx, i was thinking atleast one of my cars should have wats, but i know i shouldn't! plus there's no dish ofcourse on them. there is a scratch kinda dent down the passenger side door of the car, and i want to bash it out, bog and paint it with that orange paint to give it a shot, and some of the interior is really worn so i was going to fix that up a bit ricey style, but then if my dads gonna drive it i dont think he'd like it to much!!! i reakon anyone who loves crx's should get the import SiR ones as then u get that b16a, rear seats, even if they are a joke for people over 10yrs old they might come in handy sometime, and a glass roof which is pretty cool for its time[/url]
  23. yeah i haven't really driven it yet as the clutch in it was screwed as (it's been replaced now) but it does sound different up higher, not as good as the zed does though a hair dryer is a good word for it hehe. my mates putting a k20a in his (type r or s engine) so i think its gonna b about as fast as you could make one of these things be, but even the stock engine can probably make the front wheels spin easy enough, surposedly 96kws in a 880kg car, so i'll c how it goes and bring it on a cruise for a joke hehe, i dont c y someone would buy one of these over say ur brothers mr2, particually 3rd gen crx's over the newer mr2's... i was in my mates accord yesterday and he was trying to show me vtec doing something, but we could barely work out where it actully kicked in yo, hehe, i belive there is a fuel efficent version of vtec then a performance sort which varies the cam also? i was in my cousins type-r and i was surprised at the difference vtec made, it sure has a high redline! not sure whats happening with the zed, have a few weeks to work it out, either way its a project! i'd really like to get a 1jzed happening in time for me getting off my p's at the end of the year, but needa weigh it all up more, and my dad's trying to convince me its a waste of money (so he can have the crx i think, although he says its too low so you can't see whats happening in traffic, but it aint any lower than a zed so ?) ultimately i'd like the gt4 in the bg of the bottom pic fixed and my dad to swap me it for the crx
  24. yeah if my car was any lower (hopefully it will be pretty soon) the plastic would come in handy, but my spoiler isn't perfect so dont really care to much are you going to paint it or just leave it the plastic is it? i guess it needs painting so its gloss to match the rest?
  25. i guess it comes down to if they wanna screw you over or not? i'm really interested in upgrading the brakes, but i needa look into the engineers thing more first i guess, so i'm going to make a few calls etc, it depends if i just wanna get it on the road fast or what, pretty hard to make up my mind, from driving other various cars in the mean time i sure miss the feel, and particually the torque of the zed, even the smell possibily as stock rotors are only $60 each or so, and i'm trying to sort out the rubber bits that need replacing off ebay, just working out which one is cheaper after shipping so waiting for them to reply. against my better judgement hehe, i bought that crx, it should b on the road by the end of the weekend. my dad seems pretty keen to have it as after 350,000kms and a second engine, basically everything in his car (89 4wd corolla) is dead, and my mate who's doing stupid stuff to one of these crx's is keen to buy it off me too for his daily driver so atleast it isn't a loss of money if i change my mind and get the zed on the road asap. here's some pics of the two together, the zed sure is nicer in every single way...as you can c the rear bumper is pushed in on the crx, so i'll have to pull it back out sometime, it should b a fair bit cheaper to run being 1.6 litres and all, and have 3rd party fire theft on it for $200. i was wanting to try out the rolling paint thing on it, although after a wash it looked a fair bit nicer, and with a cut and polish on some parts it should look better again. so i'll just test it out on my rust free doors that are in primer then do black on the bottom of the zeds doors after i've bogged it
