It's called user friendly, what else can you have some cheap spirited hobby driving in and take the family on route as well, enjoy the day with very little difference to a 2 seater coupe other than a perceived opinion about whether the looks are good or not so good?? as they say it is all a matter of opinion!! In the end it's a Zed an S30 that will appeal to someone and is appreciating daily in value and interest!! Lynton

I hooked up my 260z with 280zx coil and electronic distributor but I still use the 260z alternator I have had no issues.......so what issues should I expect? Lynton

I am pretty sure the 1977/78 last of the 260z coupe's, air-conditioning was available from the factory but the numbers of cars that would have it in Oz would be very very small as most of the Zeds sold in the latter years were 2+2's!! but I can't see why that system wouldn't bolt straight into a 2 seater coupe? In my lifetime having owned/driven most nissan/datsun sports models starting from 1965 through to current date, the S15 is pretty hard to beat as an all-rounder. Having said that my only criticism of an S15 is the engine sound, yet with all the power and refinement of the turbo and slick 6 speed g/box I do miss the low down torque and engine sound of music, of the nissan six cylinder Z engines. Well errrr with not a lot of sleep after the boat trip and off to an early start without really getting a feel of our cars and the road surroundings "low flight" had begun on a crisp early morning which is always a recipe for disaster if anyone is struggling to keep up or perhaps driving beyond the cars rubber capability?? I am sure the Tassie trips are much better driver and car prepared these days and more of a team expectation of where the driver fits in with the group of cars they are travelling with? It was also interesting to watch how many S30's did a bulk unload of fuel on the left hand corners they are thirsty enough without donating sumptous amounts of fuel to nature. Lynton

As S30Mike says, get cashed up and be ready to pounce on a good smart road registered vehicle when one comes up for sale and one will the boomer population is getting older just like me and we can't hang onto our cars forever, unless you can do all the work yourself. The hardest thing to buy is a body straight Zed that is not full of rust or bog A good Zed will stand out apart from the others just by the looking with the naked eye. I believe you would need to spend at least $9000-00+ to get a decent car to use as a daily driver and then put your stamp of ownership and pride on it with improvements and maintenance you wish to make to bring the car up to scratch and what ever suits your ego. All 240Z's had diamond vinyl design on the transmission tunnel and so were the first 260Z's but a different diamond pattern about mid/late 1976 the 260Z and the 260Z 2+2 were fitted with carpet over the transmission tunnel. Lynton

Well haaving owned a couple of Z31's in my time I can only say regular servicing is preventative future maintenance, timing belts every 100,000kms need to be changed including the water pump, I had on one of my car's Airflow meter failure about every 12months for no reason that anyone could find at $800.00 each fitted. I still have a spare one on my shelf for my sons car just in case? Rear Tyre wear inside tread extraordinarily dangerous for the unaware driver, poor auto's that don't take a pounding and are not rev matched to the engines performance, small water hoses that get damaged by not so careful mechanics, and vacuum line failures on older cars from heat not mention fuel injectors that leak over the exhaust manifold and make your car subject to fire. I don't think I would take too much notice of the kilometers traveled as the K reading will only go upto 99,999kms then back to zero again!! It looks as though you maybe catching it just before it becomes another basket case, thank god another car is being saved instread of being parted out or going to the bone yard? Does this car have a sun roof or just some reflection on the photo I am picking up?? The rust on the floor is probably the heater lines have self imploded and sat wet under the carpet for obviously quite some time, poddibly why it does not continue to run maybe it has a blown headgasket as well??? As I recall on my 260Z 1975 2 seater coupe, from when I purchased it new they were all fitted with that type of inertia reel seat belt but in that picture there is a horizontal guide pin at the top of the belt and your picture shows the fabric belt leading from below instead of from the top? As I recall they also used to rattle a bit mounted on the strut? In the later 260z coupes they provided a plastic cover so you could not see the belt winding mechanism I think that was about 1977/78 but there would be few about today I think? Lynton

The reality of old zed cars and the numbers of them being parted out are even making the 2+2 dry up quickly, the overall number of Zeds in Australia as compared to many other classics are now very low IMO. Maybe that is why prices of these classics are slowly lifting and the basket cases are seriously for someone desperate to get a car as people are starting to hold them and restore or improve with modern enhancements and what better car to do exactly that with.....looks, handling, IRS, good bones to work with. If you contacted ROBCO engineering or robco@sx.com.au (Rob Crighton) mobile 0413 312 649 he has a 260Z and does a lot of rebuilding and steel fabrication he would at least be able to give you an honest answer of cost. He is located in melbourne southern suburbs no help to you but he will be a wealth of information and help for you. Lynton

Yeah I would back up scootag not legal as parking lights but you could get away with them as blinkers. I am sure I have seen clear/opaque lenses on eBay?? Lynton

Try after market car parts place like Auto1, I used a Ford heater hose which had a large diameter one end and a smaller diameter the other end ...perfect!! Lynton

Nice looking 72 240Z with the front mounted indicators above the front bumper with 260z wheels, a lucky purchase I suspect, enjoy the buzz you will get from it. What happened to the L24 motor? If you can't get hold of the original motor it you may as well put in a Series 2, L28 and enjoy the ride even more? A cool purchase Lynton

Well that 280zx looks like a 79/80 model judging by the bumpers, bonnet vents, and stainless steel side window flashing between the rear 1/4 vent window and the drivers side window. I think a better car to thump around for what you want to do would be a beat up Datsun 180bSS, Datsun 200B, Datsun 1600 (510), Datsun Stanza!! Lynton

Funny how everyone thinks they would like to buy a rust bucket or a low dollar car but when a decent car comes up for sale, say $15K+? know one will part with the money or they don't have the money to buy it, yet you know if you buy a bomb you will have to inject at least $10K+ into it anyway? What's the thinking i am a bit miffed? I am sure if I put my 260z on the market know one out there would pay the price of say $20k+ which would be fair for a good straight Zed? Lynton
