  1. I've heard this quite a bit from new members which is great, goes to show what a good community we have here. Hopefully when not at the wheel? Right on queue
  2. Hmm I'd say in the UK powder coating would be cheap certainly have a popular car modifying scene there. Problem might be I went to a place that specialise in automotive parts (saw them at a car show) and got charged automotive prices. An all round place that does fences and other stuff might be cheaper. Will do some looking around. No point paying rip off prices.
  3. Hmmm I got quoted €227 euro to get 4 brake calipers powder coated... Seems like it might be a high price considering the fact 2 of you don't think it's worthwhile to DIY.
  4. I've thought of the same thing before. Seen it done on old Mustang's and liked it a lot. Thought it would look good on a 240z too. That red ZG looks good, anymore pics / angles of it?
  5. Hi Guys, I'm looking to powder coat some parts and saw a couple of videos on Youtube where people were using home kits to do it. I'm pretty sure I could find an old toaster oven lying around that someone doesn't want. However I'm wondering what people's opinions / experiences are with powder coating at home? i.e: here is a kit http://www.eastwood.com/hotcoat-elite-powder-coat-kit.html Right now I'm looking to do it for some relatively small parts like Brake Calipers and Door Handles, not wheels or suspension components.
  6. Could be Lurcho's does his 240z have a rear bumper? *edit doesn't look like it. He has B45's and door mirrors .
  7. A friend sent me this article on Facebook said it was in The Herald Sun the other day (Vic). 240z with fender mirrors. Any idea who it is?
  8. Nice is that the front brakes only? My rear drums are well trashed or at least the master cylinder is gone in them. Always wanted a good set of brakes on the 240z.
  9. It's a good thing I'm abroad or I'd be tempted that's for sure. Thou shall not buy what thou cannot store. My parents wouldn't be too pleased if I told them I had another addition to their 2 car garage, when I already have 1 240z in there for the last 4 years haha. God it's been that long...
  10. I always trust gut decisions now from past experience. I think you made the right choice and a better car is out there. To be honest 19K is a very reasonable budget and if you really really want a top notch car you will probably be looking for 6 months to a year. I know that seems a long time right now, but you'll get the best feel for the market that way and what is and is not a good deal. There have been a few really nice cars come up in the last couple of years. Even I've been tempted to buy, but I forget the fun part (for me at least) is the satisfaction in building / fixing something up. So buying something that's already there would on the surface be nice, but I think I would miss the process. Guess the point I'm making is, wait, wait and wait. A good car will come up because someone is forced to sell. To buy a house, to stop the wife nagging, because they think they would like a change (only later to regret it hehe) and you'll know it's the right car because you've seen all the crap out there and know this is a special unique snowflake lol. Just keep an eye on this website, carsales.com.au and ebay.com.au and you should pretty much see all of the cars that come onto the market. I know it might seem backwards but I've seen some good cars in the UK and they tend to max out (2 seaters) around 10K pound. http://www.pistonheads.co.uk/sales/2970128.htm http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/DATSUN-240Z-/270770325330?pt=Automobiles_UK&hash=item3f0b2b4752#ht_1327wt_1141 I've seen a few really good looking well kept cars go for less than 10K mainly because you can get cars like the E-type JAG for around 15K. UK has strict MOT laws so many of the cars are well kept garage queens. Then again the expense of exporting might not be worth it? So if you are in a rush looking abroad perhaps, but if not just wait and be patient you may even save a bit more cash (up your budget) and be able to get a real gem.
  11. Superb looking 240z in the UK. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/DATSUN-240Z-/270770325330 I was considering bidding on it, but it's still got so much time left 5 days at 9,000 pound and with 27 bids I am wondering just how high it will go? I'm going to guess 15,000 - 16,000 pound. But who knows maybe even higher than that? Certainly looks like nothing to be done, except change over those horrid mirrors for OEM .
  12. I hate to state the obvious but as cool as these cars look aesthetically when this low and wide. Practically when you drive on the roads and try and avoid every pot hole it's not so fun. I just hope you realise it's going to scrape and smack into everything? Not trying to kill your dream or anything, but have you ever driven a car this low? It's also going to destroy the underside of the car, which might be ok if you don't mind the repair bills but most Z's are pretty tired now and rusty underneath so you could be driving like Fred Flintstone yabadaba dooo! if you get my drift? Not to mention you could end up destroying the handling going too low. Given your control arms will be at different angles (causing bump stop) and your struts could bottom out / not have enough travel. I don't know if you are thinking of coil-overs or not? But it would be a good idea, that way you can drop it on it's arse for photos or what have you and raise it again for driving on the street?
  13. I've not ordered through MSA or Ztherapy before, but Ztherapy was very helpful and sent me some good videos a while back on how to rebuild SU's. It had lots of good tips. I highly recommend it. No actually I insist you watch it if you are rebuilding your carbs, it's that good. http://www.ztherapy.com/ In terms of ignition, get 1 of those kick ass coils they use on the old Big Merc's. A big Bosch 1 that are filled with oil to keep them cool. Like this: http://www.car-stuff.com/1975mercedesbenz280cignitioncoil.htm - although I'm not sure if that model works with the Z, so double-check. I've seen lots of those small modules, but they are not good at being consistent especially at high rpm over a long period (i.e on the track).
  14. In terms of secure payments you don't have to worry too much about it if your only a small business or doing relatively small transactions. There are plenty of secure payment providers out there who take care of all the processing and credit card details. You can even use PayPal to do this kind of thing if you want. The processing is usually done off your own domain, so you don't have to worry about secure certificates or any of the encryption because that's handled by the payment gateway. If you want your own secure certification and to host your own payments on your own domain it's quite expensive and you need to have certain security in place (physical) where your servers are hosted, since they are receiving credit card details etc.. It doesn't sound like you are ready for this step yet anyway. Basically what happens when you use a 3rd party to process payments is that a visitor to your site (let's say has a shopping cart) adds items to their cart. When they are ready to pay, you have a form (usually with hidden fields / values) that contain all the transaction information - from the shopping cart. This is passed to the payment gateway along with the total price for the sale. They enter their credit card details and then when it's verified the visitor is sent back to your domain. At this point you can usually get a "token" or authentication from the payment gateway to state the transaction was successful. The payment gateway often takes a small percentage of the total sale as commission. So I guess it depends on what you are planning on doing? And potentially the type of site you wish to run. When it comes to CMS systems like Benny mentioned Wordpress and Drupal are both good and flexible systems. Drupal is not nearly as User-Friendly. Both are written in PHP which in itself can sometimes be less than ideal for security. I use Drupal for parts of this website, and the goal was to convert the entire site over, but for now that's on hold. I am actually learning Python right now (which is what the web development framework Django https://www.djangoproject.com/ is based on). The reason I'm heading in this direction is that CMS systems will take you so far, but eventually (and depending on what you want to do) you will reach a point where perhaps the CMS won't easily do what you want or you reach a stage where you have to compromise. After years of messing around with CMS's I wanted to extend my programming skills and where I work Python is 1 of the core languages we use. So I figured it was time to dive in. Again all of this depends on where you want to go, but as a programmer you might want the Freedom to use your own code rather than mould your skills to use an existing CMS and it's own workflow etc..
  15. My car sat for a couple of years and it hardened the valve stem seals causing them to allow oil into the combustion chamber. It would foul the spark plugs and everything. When I replaced them which is a PITA to do when the engine head is still on the motor the car ran a lot better. Sea foam is popular with the rotary guys, it helps de-coke an engine and clear out the carbon. If your car has been getting lots of oil into the combustion chamber or fouling up the spark plugs often it could have lots of carbon build up which would make it run poorly. If I'm honest from your description it sounds like you could be in for tearing down the block and replacing the rings, but definitely do a compression test first and see how you go.
  16. Unfortunately I don't think there is a really great documentary out there. The best I've seen is the book Brian Long's book. http://www.amazon.com/Datsun-Fairlady-Roadster-280ZX-Hardbound/dp/1904788076/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1308210908&sr=1-2
  17. Thanks Gordon, hope you don't mind but I edited your post to remove the large blue font from your post.
  18. Welcome, you finally got 1 and the 240K was / is a great car and under appreciated in my opinion.
  19. I like it, doesn't destroy the lines of the car like many of them often do and has the performance benefit.
  20. I was just reading about the Ferrari F40 crash in outback Australia a few days ago. Decided to look this up based on your photo. http://www.deseretnews.com/article/354912/FIERY-CRASH-LEAVES-4-DEAD-IN-AUSTRALIAS-CANNONBALL-RUN.html
  21. Love it great photos' It definitely looks like Kat's car doesn't it?
  22. All the best champ. Hope you had a great day.
  23. Please do, especially any that have "Hektic" for number plates . Well Vodka is made from Potato's so I will . Thanks everyone, can't believe I'm 21 again haha.
  24. Awesome car Andrew I love it. I think I recall when it was for sale on eBay. Looks very tidy as you mentioned and just needs a refresh. I particularly like this photo: I know there was discussion of a cannonball run, not sure how things are progressing with that, but I'd like to drive a 240z through outback Australia. Although I imagine it wasn't an air-conditioned palace and it can get quite hot in a 240z. I recall driving my 240z on a 40 degree day in Melbourne and absolutely roasting. Had the windows down and was on the freeway going at 100 km/h and just recall the heat on my face being like a blow dryer ahaha. Was the car originally red from the factory? Sure looks like it was.
  25. Compare to this car and it's like night and day. Yet this is priced lower. http://www.carsales.com.au/all-cars/private/details.aspx?R=10724889 or even this: http://www.carsales.com.au/all-cars/private/details.aspx?R=10437490
