  1. Just found this awesome video also: Nissan R92CP & S30Z
  2. Bob Bondurant Driving School video.. Has lots of early Datsun's and in particular shows the ZX.
  3. Well this is a price guide I guess... http://www.shannons.com.au/auctions/lot/?id=MFDHG07F5G9A0AN7
  4. I'd definitely remove those front panels and replace with the stock front end. The motor well.....I've drive a mates VC commodore and that had the single carb. Compared with the L-series it did not feel like a motor that liked to rev. Very sluggish, not sure how they were in the Torana but I wasn't very impressed. L-series are dirt cheap anyway so he must have just preferred the Holden engine? This car got me looking up Bolwell Nagari's - always liked the look / shape of them and especially the fact that they were Aussie built cars in Victoria. Found some cool stuff... http://www.madwhips.com/bolwell-nagari-coupe/ Any idea what they are worth today? I kind of want 1 lol...
  5. +1 not sure what is salvageable considering it's a LHD unit. Man just looking at those pics makes me sad. What a shame and waste of such a tidy original car. The front guards and bonnet could maybe get you $1000. $400 for both fenders then $600 for the bonnet perhaps? The motor would probably only get $500-$700, but with the original SU's (Provided she's a 72 and not a 73 US model) perhaps a bit more? Is it L24? I assume yes? Electronic or points dizzy? Good compression? Oil pressure? Depends on how bad someone needs a motor and wants that set up? Interior would be great, but its all backwards. Dash looks good but not much use to a RHD car and seats and door cards are not able to be changed. I do love the white interior though . My guess is you could probably break even on the $4000 if you were to remove the parts yourself. Is it worth the hassle? Probably not, but I would hate to see all those usable parts crushed by insurance company at the same time.... decisions decisions...
  6. I can't recall for sure from memory it could be central but I haven't looked at it in nearly 4 years. RE: The oil pump drive shaft - just let me know I can get it shipped to my old folks place for when I eventually return to Australia .
  7. A cool looking Fairlady Z - Rocky Auto SHHHTYLLLEEEEE I want these wheels on my FD RX-7.
  8. Well usually I'm pretty calm on Auszcar, but I'm talking more about private and work emails.
  9. A bit bizarre but nice looking Z all the same.
  10. I couldn't agree more, there are times when I could have replied to emails, forums posts etc.. when I was livid about something, but a day or 2 later come back and respond when I've had more thought and perspective. It's really important, but hard to do.
  11. Pretty sure that's not the Mitsubishi model and just the normal E12 module 280zx distributor. http://www.atlanticz.ca/zclub/techtips/distributor/index.html
  12. Say goodbye to bad karma. . Actually it's funny because the settings of the karma feature specifically references the popularity of a member. I think that might be the problem all along, it was viewed as a popularity contest and not a "thanks mate" that was helpful gesture.
  13. I'm not sure but I heard they were for a 280zx series 2. Possibly a turbo variant? It's a well engineered distributor, better than the standard ZX distributor that most slot into their Z's. This 1 gave up on me (it was on the car when I bought it). The module died - managed to trace down another but it was a bit expensive. I think what Dimitri said is correct you can use a Bosch module. I almost turfed it when it broke, but I'm glad I kept it as my mechanic at the time said it was very rare and sought after.
  14. Wow this thread got long quick... 1. Karma was really intended to help newer members know who the long standing members are and if their advice is useful. When you first join a community you have no idea who is giving good advice and who is just talking (sorry for swearing Rev) shite! The idea was that it would help speed up the process of getting to know the active helpful members. By the way I'm not saying anyone here talks shite lol.. I do agree a trader rating might be a better idea because that way you know someone is trustworthy when it comes to buying parts etc.. Just like eBay. 2. Correcting an error, well the error technically wasn't an error. Here's what happened with Salty's Karma. He was in the negative and kicked up a big stink about it, I'm sure you all recall. So what I did was remove the negative link from the sites template (obviously not the PM template - oops!) and I did a database reset of EVERYBODY's negative karma rating. Interestingly the karma votes were stored in 2 separate rows of the member tables. So let's say I had 30 votes (in positive) and 10 votes (in negative) my total would show 20. Even though Salty's karma was -40 odd, he actually had a large amount of positive votes. So when I reset everything he went into the positive. Salty actually deleted all his posts, so I considered removing all his karma ratings too. But I didn't think it was worth the effort of updating the database for 1 members rating. Obviously I underestimated that everyone else saw it as important and wanted to correct an error. 3. I wasn't actually worried about the negative votes myself, I was more concerned that a small group of members were going out of their way to ostracise another member. As I say I don't think everyone should get along sing songs and hold hands, just agree to disagree. If I was to let others 'bully' - I say bully but perhaps that is over exaggerating the situation, another member. Then it opens the door for others to do the same. 4. My girlfriend has pointed out that perhaps the word "karma" is part of the problem. It could be that some feel a bit superstitious about bad karma. 5. I now know why Google+ and Facebook don't allow negatives or dislikes. The drama of it all . 6. I think I might remove karma but before I do, does anyone have any last words or reasons to keep it?
  15. Hi Everyone, Unfortunately it seems I have to remind the community about our sites terms of usage. http://www.viczcar.com/terms Especially point #7 You will not abuse other members, post hatred filled messages or discriminate against other members based on sex, sexuality, race or ethic background, financial position etc.. It seems a small group of members have found a way to circumvent the karma system and continue to send a member(s) negative karma votes. The thing is I'm not concerned about the negative votes and I think this is less of a concern for those involved, but I am concerned that someone is being picked on by a small sub set of Auszcar members. Whilst I understand some members may not see eye to eye on all subjects I don't believe this is acceptable behavior. I would also like to add that looking in our server logs I can see which IP addresses have been voting negatively for this member. I have seen these votes today on the 22nd of August. It doesn't take too much effort to match this IP address to a members recent activity. I know who some of you are and if I have to look further I'm sure I can find the rest of you also. I'm somewhat disappointed that I have to even write this post, but I'm hoping this matter can be brought to a swift resolution and this acts as a warning. I don't want to have to give anyone a temporary holiday from the site. Keep in mind the only person who you are giving a headache to in the end is me, since I have to go looking through server logs, respond to emails / pm's and write posts such as these. As you can imagine, I'd much rather be working on the car. Speaking of which I'm off to do so.
  16. Sorry mate, but I disagree with this statement totally. The front end of a Z looks better without a front air-damn in my opinion. My Z doesn't have it and I think it looks better than some of the ugly front ends I've seen over the years. To each their own but beauty is in the eye of the beholder I guess. The 240z looks very similar at the front to the E-type Jag IMHO and you wouldn't call that ugly would you? Enzo Ferrari said it was "the most beautiful car ever made!" http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jaguar_E-Type What will hold back the value of Z's and has forever is the negative connotations associated with Japanese cars of the period. Frankly it's absurd but once the market gets over that hurdle and I suspect it won't be long and they discover how much better these cars were in terms of reliability and fun than their Euro / British counterparts values will go up.
  17. Agree with Adam if you don't have to sell right now don't. I bought a very restorable 240z 10 years ago for $3,500 - I still kick myself for selling restored it's easily worth $22k - $25k in today's market for the right buyer.
  18. My Z is currently Ferrari red, but it was originally silver and I'm thinking of going back to Silver probably not the original shade found on Z's but something a bit brighter. Like this lovely looking Porsche hot rod. http://www.fantasyjunction.com/img/cars/large/3948.jpg With a bright red interior like this Porsche.
  19. Agree, except if a recession hits Australia. Which so far seems to not be the case. Unlike Europe and the US which are both in trouble at the moment. So many good cars are going for nothing, especially in Ireland there is just no market for them. Likewise with the UK actually, but classics tend to be something people are more willing to hang on to since they know when the market comes good again they won't loose value. Unlike a new car.
  20. Should look the bomb! But I'll miss the dirty primer look. Something about the rat rod look.
  21. I'm pretty sure they were on all original trim interiors. Perhaps yours were recovered at some point? I like them too, very 70's.
  22. Perhaps send a message (PM) to HS30-H (Alan) as he has a genuine ZG and will probably know for sure.
  23. Whilst I'm sure Jared loves your banter fellas he still needs a rotisserie.
  24. I've just spent 20 mins reading all of this and I'm in a bit of a hurry as I type this reply but I want to say 2 things: 1. I can understand the NDSOC does not want to hand out CH plates to any Tom, Dick or Harry who may see the club as cheap rego. To perhaps detour for a second I was a member of the NDSOC for a short while a couple of years ago but let my membership expire due to my perceived lack of other early Z's in the club. I think I recall a Holden Commodore (VL Turbo) being featured on the site and in the club magazine a few times. To which I have absolutely 0 interest. Although I understand the common RB powerplant. I felt the club was just not focused and had little interest growing early Z membership. At that time Matt Freeman was President and he did speak to me a couple of times about getting more early Z's in the club. In fact I will say Matty was the 1 person who really made me feel welcome in the club. Hats off to Matt. I find this a bit of a shame, which brings me to my next point. 2. I would like to see the relationship between Auszcar and the NDSOC improved. It's a crying shame to see a lack of early Z's in that club and I understand some people have had negative experiences in the past and may wish to go elsewhere, but I honestly think if a few of the younger members got together and became more involved in the decision making process they could shake things up and bit. Which would be of both mutual benefit to the NDSOC and Auszcar. If I was living back in Australia I would probably attempt to get more involved with the NDSOC. I'll be the first to admit that I didn't get too involved in the beginning because of what 'others' had told me about the club. I did find the group a little 'clicky' but that is understandable at the same time as I was the newbie and the club has been around for a long time and has many long term members. Perhaps this is the wrong thread, but I'd like to see ideas discussed (constructive criticism) around how the NDSOC could be improved and more welcoming to new members. Just a suggestion, what do you think?
