  1. Lynton thanks for posting those images, in particular the Green 240z. I recall seeing that same sales brochure at Len Brennan's place about 6 or so years ago and he was talking about how exciting it was to buy a 240z back then, he said there was nothing like it for that price range. I recall seeing that Green 240z and thinking wow look how original it is, not many like that anymore. Also wanted to post to say the topics have been split. So you may carry on discussing early car features and differences to later imported vehicles. +1 to grey colour grille, my 73 (a very original car) had a grey grille. Keep in mind those photos of HS30-0004 were taken back in the 90s when digital cameras were pretty poor and or you scanned photos onto your computer. I think 1 of them is in .gif format, which is not an ideal format for an image (it would suit a wiring diagram perfectly) but not something with complex colours like a photograph, much better to use .jpg that's why it looks so choppy and the colour range is all wrong. FYI: HS30-0004 was actually 905 red! I managed to confirm this.
  2. This topic has been split based on the discussion around early mirror types found on AUDM cars. Split topic is here. http://www.viczcar.com/forum/index.php/topic,13234.0.html
  3. Do you have the part no. for those square mirrors per-chance? All I know is that it was once owned by Dr Harry Corbett. http://web.archive.org/web/20010722214605/http://www.ndsoc.com.au/ Photo at Albert Park in Melbourne. I'm not sure if it's still owned by the same family or not? Would be great to speak to the current owner about it, perhaps do an interview and record some of it's unique history down and document some of the intricate details of this year 240z. Check out the above photo, I think it's just the lighting in the first photos with Lindsay Drife in it that shows a chrome like finish, but in actual fact it's the correct silver flat colour (not black like many have been painted now-a-days). Yeah I think the old chap at the dealer was spot on, HS30-0004 was apparently a test car for automotive journalists when the 240z first arrived in Australia and I doubt many would have had those mirrors on them. If I had to guess I'd say less than 100 cars in total got those mirrors, maybe a few with the bullet style (black ones you're talking about), but most I would say opted for the standard door mirror (which is in itself hard to find! Why is it that the unpopular option of the day (i.e paint code an interior colour or in this case the wing mirrors are the very thing that everyone wants some 30-40 years later when restoring a car?) My mind baffles, but in honestly I'm just as bad as I'd love to restore a 240z with a set of the square ones on it . I agree, it's so tempting to modify these cars, but there are so few accurately original cars out there it seems a shame to me. I really would love to see more cars restored to the period correct look. As much as I like a well modified car, there isn't many out there that are a rolling time capsule and I suspect such cars would fetch good money too! I suspect it was 71 also, never seen any 72s with them that were original. All I can say is thank-you internet archive, would love to speak to Harry though regarding HS30-0004.
  4. Lol that was pretty good.

  6. This is HS30-0004 as delivered to Australia back in early 70. http://www.viczcar.com/forum/topic/11290-early-australian-motoring-press-review-hs30-0004/
  7. http://page17.auctions.yahoo.co.jp/jp/auction/v314781249 I'm pretty sure these are the early style fender mirrors for the AU market 240z first lot that entered the country.
  8. Man there must be something in South Australian bore water. I don't know how you guys move so rapidly but it is really inspiring to watch.
  9. Hey mate we can do a write up on this website to show case the car when you are ready?
  10. Only problem with that is airport might sell it to recoup loss if they think its been abandoned. Try looking on Gumtree for a storage place or workshop. I'm thinking a few Auszcar members should go in on a workshop space and split the rent. Would work perfect for me in Sydney.
  11. Looks very tidy considering it has been a slow restoration. I know what its like to try and restore something on a student budget. What bits and pieces are you having difficulty finding?
  12. This blog is something I have been reading over the last couple of months and they have a section on hogan plates. http://thenewaustralian.org/?cat=16 Which I find quite funny. I was considering custom plates at 1 stage but I'm happy to just stick with a generic plate. Unless of course I was unlucky enough to receive a generic plate like this. http://m.nzherald.co.nz/nz/news/article.cfm?c_id=1&objectid=10754151
  13. It looks more like an s130 front end than an S30z to me.
  14. So are you employed again mate? Is that a totally new loom you constructed or did you just patch up and restore the original loom? I would love to build a brand new wiring loom for the 240z so you can run modern fuse box and headlights / alternator etc.. But I'm a total wiring dunce at this stage and don't know where to start learning really, other than buying a decent multi-meter and pulling my hair out.
  15. That strut tower looks like it lost a few fights. My old 2+2 was white so I have a soft spot for a white 2+2 should look good with the Watanabe's on it. You never take on the easy projects do you? I'm not complaining, quite the opposite, I admire your motivation to get the job done. Really inspires me to see how you build these cars.
  16. I hate you where did you find it? I typed prince in on Yahoo auctions and got nothing back. I'll swap you 12 L14 rods for it? Haha. That's a score mate I would be well happy with that too!
  17. Nice wheel choice will look good with baby blue paint. For all those curious about the turbo car by set up. I was in a black 2+2 owned by madz (Marc) on here and it was pretty bat shit crazy. Boost came on hard and made all kinds of noise from wastegate. Pretty fun but not very fuel efficient from memory. Give it mechanical water injection and change wastegate spring and see what happens lol.. Probably destroy lots of modern stuff but I would imagine it will be a bit like the Millennium Falcon fast when its working .
  18. Is this sort of testing happening more often in Australia these days? I feel they are cracking down on modifications etc.. In recent years as a way of deterring hoon behaviour. Just another reason to make everything legit.
  19. I was thinking that, I really like the orange air box on the standard twin SU's in the engine bay (or as my friends call it the 'guitar'). A red air box on triple mikuni's wouldn't raise any eye-brows should the kind constable plod pull me over for an inspection. It would I imagine look very 'correct'. It's all about stealth with me .
  20. Alan it's great to see you are trying to make this happen, I myself would be interested if they fit a set of Triple Mikuni 44 carbs? However as odd as it may sound I actually would prefer it as pressed metal as opposed to carbon fibre to give that true stock look. I don't know how difficult these are to get? But would imagine that in Japan there would be many interested (if it's not possible to source OEM anymore). Anyway you can stick me down as another interested party, when if this goes ahead.
  21. Hey mate, Where did you get the phosphoric acid from? I have been using engine degreaser to try and get gunk off alloy parts but I still need to scrub with wire brush and even then it still seems to have grease on the surface. Is there any other precautions you should use when working with phosphoric acid? By the way I can't believe how clean this build is, are you doing a restoration for concourse or are you building a race car? Perhaps both? Simply stunning and thanks for sharing all your skills, I for 1 really appreciate builds like this because I learn so much.
  22. Fantastic work Lurch.
  23. Welcome, I think I can relate to this, although I don't recall crying there was probably lots of swearing and I'm sure I managed to mangle a couple of them with the hammer. I now know better of course and would use a tool designed to 'press them out' but what fun is that anyway? Love the photo at the Nullarbor. Looking forward to seeing this Zed at a meeting in the future.
  24. Thanks Wayne I'm getting the car detailed tomorrow hopefully steam clean under it and full detailed engine bay etc.. I'm getting a quote on roll on roll off and ship personal items separate vs all together in a container. Wish me luck.
  25. Think about it he is asking 9k for 3 basket cases. A quick search and I found this http://carsales.mobi/cars/details/SSE-AD-2239609 This is a 2 seated like you want. Only downside is sunroof. I would much rather buy 1 good car than 3 heaps that you'll have to flog once you create 1 good car. Also some year 2±2 parts don't always fit other years. So you could end up with bits you can't use anyway. I would just wait for a 2 seated otherwise you'll wish you got that. Keep searching.
