I wonder if this has anything to do with it Perth's declining economy? -

Stuck in 2005 I think? There is an exception though, every so often a deal pops up and is gone quickly. Think of the 2k 240z that was listed here recently. Not gonna see that much more often I'd imagine. -

I missed the sunroof, good catch. I thought that Perth S30z's were rare and so prices would be higher given the transport costs associated with moving from Eastern states back to WA. I honestly don't think the price is unreasonable, I see lots of early Rotary Coupe's asking those prices (w/o engine) etc.. I saw an R100 coupe appear for a day with average photos (at $20K) but looked original in need of resto etc.. But maybe R100 prices should be higher than S30z's? Due to rarity and rotary madness in this country? I just didn't think it was unreasonable but at the same time it's hard to know how many parts are missing. -
To drag this back on topic . So did he elaborate on what happened to them? If none of them survived is that because they were crashed / wrecked? The original works car must have been returned to Japan if it was on a carnet no? But from reading between the lines in this thread it seems the car went missing and nobody has seen the car? Not even Nissan knows where it might be? I'm guessing you don't know either Alan? It would appear to me that the car had changed a few times during it's time in Australia. For example (and don't hate me Alan for referring Zhome) but here: http://zhome.com/History/rally.htm You can see it's livery looks quite different to the photos above. I can see TKS33 4080 Maybe it was just repainted? If it was re-shelled I don't see why they would keep the Japanese registration on it?

1970 Model 240z. (HLS3005534) http://www.ebay.com/itm/1970-Datsun-240Z-low-serial-HLS3005534-/231522334228 It looks quite solid in the photos, and mostly original apart from paint so I thought it might sell for more than it did. Went for about $7,500 USD which is about $10K AUD at current exchange rate.

@Zedsabbath - are you still making rubber parts for S30z's? I'm wondering if the process you use is anything like this?

Early S30z Temp/Oil Press. and 74 260z Amp gauge.
gav240z posted a topic in Parts and Tools for Sale
Hi guys, Got a couple of gauges here that I don't need and figure someone might need them? Early 240z (70-71) water temp and oil pressure gauge. The early ones have an extra delimiter in the middle of each respective gauge. Later ones simply had the start and end markers. Price: $50 Next up... 260z/S31 amp /fuel gauge, these were only fitted for 1 year as far as I'm aware. 1974. You can tell it's a later style gauge because of the single loom plug (240z has separate plug for light bulb and gauge) and the bracket on the rear suits the 260z dash mount. Price: $50 Both prices are negotiable. -
I have thought about this, but not actually done it. The SUs have twin cables, but I think with the triples you could run a single cable to each choke point on each carb. You might want to get a new cable from a bicycle store or similar? I don't think you'd need 3 cables 1 for each carb. I'm interested to see what solution you come up with though?

On the strut towers in the engine bay. You could try contacting the previous owner, I believe another member had some fun trying to register his car with this missing ID plate. Have a read here. http://www.viczcar.com/forum/index.php/topic,14462.0.html Does it have the original L24? ID plate looks like this. http://www.viczcar.com/forum/index.php/topic,14462.msg153447.html#msg153447

Ok so a bit of progress on door alignment. I mentioned that I got the shim template from another member the other day. Using tin snips I cut out a shim (but it's about 1mm thick) and I think the standard ones are probably about half that, very thin. That's ok because sometimes you see multiple shims used on S30z doors. In this case I'll experiment till I get the door where I want it exactly. You can see it will need a bit more work with a file, but once I've done 1 the others should be easier to make a copy. FYI: I've not been able to find these on eBay, so if anyone has any spares let me know? Can't hurt to have different thickness shims. Now to change the alignment of the door relative to the rear 1/4 panel you can adjust the catch. If you undo the bolts here, you can shift it in a N/S/E/W direction. I moved mine EAST to get the door to sit more flush. As a side note you can see at the bottom of the catch it's a little bent, someone obviously was frustrated at some point and decided to beat it into submission. Here is the passenger side for comparison. Adjusting the catch will take some time, and a few attempts. Here is how I started. and how things ended up after a few adjustments. As you can see it's just about perfect in the bottom corner where the door meets the rear dog/leg sill area. Since it was relatively easy to adjust the door here, I decided to try the passenger side also. Before. After. Although the door doesn't sit nice and firmly in that spot, I suspect because the door seal rubber has perished so badly it no longer holds the door firmly in place. Pretty happy with those results all the same. I'm going to try adding the shims on the upper door hinge to bring the door further out and inline with the front fender swage line, the door sits a little lower in this section than the fender does. I'm sure the shims will rectify that and perhaps tuck the lower rear part of the door in just a tad more also.

An article about George Fury here mentions Ross Dunkerton and driving some works prepared 710s. http://www.rallysportmag.com.au/home/other-news/9052-george-fury-datsun-s-star-driver-of-the-1970s-and-1980s

I had to Google what an Icehound 240z was, whilst it is a nice looking 240z and looks relatively period correct. The black paint is not something early S30z's ever came with and the front spoilers I see lots of S30z's in the US wearing don't appeal to me, I think I loathe them because my 75 260z 2+2 I had years ago had 1 and it would always catch on driveways and car park bollards etc.. Being fiberglass it would crack and I had to patch it up a couple of times. Basically a lot of hassle. But I also find they detract from the nice lines of the original car, so prefer more subtle lip spoilers that tend to retain the lower valance piece. You may find when you finally get an S30z your tastes change and you're ideal 240/260z will look a bit different. I know that over the years I've gone from liking really modified ones to liking the original and period correct look more and more. There is endless debate about this on the forums. Anyhow, remember it's always better to ask for forgiveness than beg for permission. A good S30z may well be an investment anyway if the price changes I've seen over the last couple of years are anything to go by. -
Only you 2 could turn a thread like this into a pissing contest. Thanks I must have missed that thread. As always thanks Alan, I feel we may have covered this before but did the TKS prefix and numbers have any significant meaning? I know they were used on Works cars, but did the numbers have any special meaning? Did this car run any special kind of motor? LY set up or was it a regular L24/L26 motor? I assume it probably had different engine configurations over it's life? Given that it had the Kobe Seiko wheels, would it have had the Ikeda Bussan seats to go with it or the Rally Clock for that matter? I guess this is why I'm wondering where the car is now? Or if others have more photos of it, it's interior etc..? I see it has the jacking points on the sill like the other Works rally cars did. So I'm really interested in it's original configuration. It seems to be 1 of the lesser known rally cars of the S30z series. It's interesting in that it was reported as a 260z, I do wonder what rear lights it had and if it was really an earlier specification car (the HLS30 seems to indicate it was) or if it was re-shelled into a 260z (RS30) and parts carried over. There was rumors of an S20 powered S30z being rolled in Australia on a rally and then buried in the desert, I'm sure it's just folklore / legend and more than likely never happened, but can't help but feel this may have been the car in question? Like you've said before the carnet would have more than likely prevented that.

Looks quite effective. A good stop gap-solution until 1 can afford a full paint job.

I'm just gonna put this link here for my own benefit and because it will likely help others. http://www.classiczcars.com/topic/11102-adjusting-doors/ I managed to get a template of the door hinge shims on paper thanks to a fellow member, which will help pull the door's top swage line out inline with the fender and possibly turn in the bottom edge of the door also. Hopefully between the info in that thread and the photos I'll include here it will help others.

Yes we got that plate, Matching numbers is engine number matches that ID plate that is fixed to the body. The Japanese market didn't have the engine number stamped on those plates so it's a bit of a moot point for their market cars, for markets outside of Japan it seems to be considered more important for collectors.

Hi Guys, Doing a bit of reading through some old Classiczcar posts. I came across a name Ross Dunkerton, now a lot of his success in a Datsun was before I was even born. So I guess I'm catching up. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ross_Dunkerton http://www.bobwatsonrally.com.au/dunko.html (A book apparently is available) http://www.fishpond.com.au/Books/Dunko-Bob-Watson-Ross-Dunkerton/9780646570600 See also. http://ozdat.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=14117&start=0#p109557 A nice looking (260z?) and from here: http://autopics.com.au/76098-ross-dunkerton-datsun-260z-warrana-rally-1976-martin-domeracki-collection/ Appears to have the Kobe Seiko wheels, and I wonder how many other special Nissan parts of the era? I guess I'm wondering if the car is still out there? If so has anyone seen it and does anybody know much about the parts that were fitted at the time or have more photos to share of it? I'm really interested, would be good to know if Ross is still into the Datsun's although it seems he may be presenting on TV more these days.
