  1. Seems like the ACCC might like to know? It looks like 'bait' advertising to me. https://www.accc.gov.au/consumers/misleading-claims-advertising/false-or-misleading-claims#creating-a-false-or-misleading-impression
  2. Photos in the restoration thread. http://www.viczcar.com/forum/topic/13514-tail-light-restoration-tutorial/?p=172128
  3. Update, I received the tail light trims. Which are great, but the center post is still shorter than the originals. Even though I tried hard to find reproductions that were as original. Seems maybe they are all like this? Foreground is the original trim, background is the new trim. Perspective of photo also makes it hard to compare easily. Another perspective. I'm not sure what kind of adhesive was glued onto the original, but I might try and figure out what it is to make the new ones a bit longer on the center post. Anyway, don't bore us get to the chorus... For comparison an original trim (although admittedly this photo makes the originals look half decent). They were not the best chrome trims but also not the worst I've seen. I still haven't finished with the housings, I plan to use grey paint to remove the brownish stains on 1 of the housings. I also plan to hit the lens with some clear coat to make it really glossy and pop! But otherwise they look great in my opinion.
  4. Then I've done my job. Makes you wonder doesn't it? I am pretty sure (but open to correction from Alan HS30-H) that they were fitted as standard on the 432 PS30 (but not the 432-R PS30-SB), as some of you may recall there was a Yahoo! Auction recently where a set of 5 wheels was sold. The price was upwards of $15k AUD for wheels alone. The seat trim is also incorrect for this year S30z, it has the later 74+ style seat trim. Pretty poorly crafted ad anyway, no mention of the rally clock working or other components. Asking top money. I would be interested to know what it sold for in Japan, I'll bet nowhere near asking price.
  5. Right that's you off the Christmas Card list.
  6. Also found this. https://www.californiadatsun.com/engine-accessories/datsun-nissan-240z-280z-oil-pump-gear-drive-oem.html Wish I had part no. handy.

  8. Congratulations!
  9. Just bumping this up again.
  10. It sounds like the distributor drive spindle. Photo from Locky's L28 rebuild thread. I'm afraid I don't think I have any spare.
  11. Welcome, looks good so far. Hope you are enjoying driving it?
  12. Just noticed the car was originally 907 Green is that right?
  13. Which gear part? Are you talking about the distributor shaft that connects to the crankshaft? Got a photo of what you're describing?

Thanks for reminding me of why I am building a stock L24. That's the rub isn't it? Change 1 part you gotta change another and another and another and the list goes on.
  15. These have arrived. $175 a pair + postage. I'll take some photos when I unbox them and install them on my tail lights.

How do you check for distributor drive spindle wear and it's float? Do you often have issues with the drive gear being worn?
  17. The dent in the roof should be easy enough to repair, the doors look amazing and the skins would be worth saving. Apart from that front end stack looks like it was a really well kept example. Lucky you!
  18. The gasless mig produces super messy welds, I think you will find a gas mig like night and day to use. You'll also get better quality / strength from using a gas welder. The problem for the dog leg may not be on the outside, but inside. If you don't give things a go, you won't learn. Good luck.
  19. I had a similar plan, but the best plans don't always go to plan. I am guessing you'll find rust in the floors, sills and possibly frame. Many of these cars rusted a couple of years after being bought new in 1970/71/72/73 etc.. Often patched up quite badly too.

Where you're going you don't need roads correct firing order.
  21. If OEM is not essential you could try Scotts Old Rubber? http://www.scottsoldautorubber.com.au/Datsun%201969-78%20240Z-260Z.htm

  23. First gen rx-7 was 1978. 280zx was introduced late 1978 also. The ZX was done by 1983, where as the series 3 RX-7 was done by 1985. 1985 was when the FC RX-7 was introduced. Did the RX-7 and 280zx go for the same market demographic? Not really, the RX-7 was a more simple bare bones sports car like the 240z was, the 280zx was more of a luxury GT car. So I still think that if someone was looking for a 240z type of car by the late 70s their option was an RX-7 or perhaps to go up market and look at the 944 (or maybe even a 924??). Going a bit off topic now, but I think my crystal ball is as good as yours. Therefore I have no idea which version of the FD will be the most collectible. My guess is... 1. SP RX-7 (in Australia anyway) 2. Late Type RZ in white 3. Spirit R 4. Earlier Type RZ in black 5. Type RS-R (series 7) But who knows?
  24. I quite like the look of the series 1 cars. What makes a car more desirable isn't always what's "better". A 280z came with a 2.8L motor and fuel injection, along with a more solid chassis. But it's earlier S30z's that have the highest value. No argument from me. But they are still a relatively modern classic.
  25. Can we get a sold price for future reference?
