  1. This thread could get long...there is a lot of differences. Door trims on early girls have 2 additional screws at the bottom (you can just see it here near the pull handle - to the right), photo is from HS30 00084. When I saw these in HS30 00150 I thought someone had installed them - because the trims sag a bit at the bottom. However I've seen it in a few early cars now. So they must be OEM.
  2. So a while back I put the wrong size globes in my 72 240z instruments and the additional heat caused the green diffuser to warm up enough that it fell into the gauge housing. They are originally melted into place from the factory. The little green tabs go into a hole and I guess the line worker would melt the ends and that was that. This meant that my gauge lit up white, not green. So at the time I just bought another gauge off eBay and installed it. Only problem is, the fuel gauge calibration is off. It's annoying to say the least. I have some idea on how to re-calibrate them, but this gauge is in great shape and is original to the car. I tired to use araldite at first to glue it in, but it was a mess and it just didn't harden correctly. I think being a 2 part epoxy it might not mix well in small amounts. I was worried further attempts would leave me with glue on the dial faces (by accident) so I decided not to do that. Instead I pulled out this Bondic stuff (not cheap) but basically I just dabbed 2 little glue blobs onto the green diffuser and then used the pen which hardens the glue. Seems to have worked really well. So well I think I'll use it for the lens, front diffuser and housing when I pull them apart. I need to repaint the front black diffuser as paint has chipped off with age and polish the lens (which can only be removed once the glued in diffuser is removed. Bit of a pain, but I figured it was a tip worth sharing as it seems to have worked well. Demo of Bondic below.
  3. Found the old PDF of the article on Harry's car on an old USB thumb drive. Winning! 265 hemi 240z.pdf
  4. VHT engine enamel cast alloy. I needed 2 cans, 1 for each side of the tray (3 coats on each side). It does recommend using a primer, but I didn't use 1. So we shall see how well it holds up. I did however use deoxidine and scotch brite pad to scuff all the surface rust that got on it (since I had sandblasted it) and went over it with a wax and grease remover before I painted it. I also used a heat gun to help set the paint between coats - since it was winter and cold out and paint generally dries better above 20 degrees. Being an engine enamel it tends to set properly after heat cycles too apparently. It's not as perfect as it looks, you can see dents in it etc.. and I tried to straighten it out best I could. It is after all an undertray and will likely get 'whacked' again. I have a couple of these for each car (getting hard to find) - hopefully the others are in better shape than this 1 was.. the 1 on my 71 has taken a bit of a beating, but should panel beat straight again.
  5. SU's vs Webers. First is 40mm Triple webers, second videos are twin SU's.
  6. Painted my undertray, think I might put this 1 on the 72 240z.
  7. @peter mc did it a few years back in his 260z that @Gordo now races with an L-series back in. Someone else racing their 260z has 1 in it I'm sure, but username escapes me at the moment.
  8. What does it cost? Are you getting it etch primed to protect the bare metal or zinc dipped?
  9. It is still listed on eBay despite being pulled from the Tulloch website. So no idea..
  10. I guess it's the same as my Mazda RX-7 is technically an "Efini RX-7" and it had "Efini" badges on it originally. However over here it's simply registered and insured as a Mazda RX-7. https://www.carthrottle.com/post/nxlxkjo/ It's still technically an "Efini" even though I call it a Mazda RX-7 - since nobody would know what I was on about if I started to call it my Efini RX-7.
  11. I just approved 2 posts from this user, at first I wasn't sure it was a legitimate user. But after looking at the email address suspect they are a Datsun enthusiast (610 in their email address). However if it turns out they are not genuine, will boot them and their posts.
  12. But I do agree it's been done really well, I'd almost be tempted to slot an RB26 into 1 of my S30Z's after watching it. A friend of mine last night saw the video and says to me, geez the S30Z is a great shape. I said, funny it took you so long to notice. We've been friends since the mid 90s and my first car was a 240z at 16/17 and he's only now just noticing this now lol..
  13. It's a Fairlady Z, not a 240z and not a 260z.. If we can't get it right here, what chance does anyone else have?
  14. RHD HS30 in the UK https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Datsun-240z-U-K-R-H-D-2-4l-Andy-Stanfords-HSCC-race-car/273383534767?_trkparms=aid%3D888007%26algo%3DDISC.MBE%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D51875%26meid%3De2eb49772a1d4a5f824f18592e63ff45%26pid%3D100009%26rk%3D1%26rkt%3D1%26sd%3D283081615746%26itm%3D273383534767&_trksid=p2047675.c100009.m1982 Body work looks "fat" to me.. Rear valance section is "260z" type (74+) Listed as a 71.

  17. Try watching this, as it might help. 3:49 seconds. I tried to restore the images Sulio attached in the first post here, but they are gone and I cannot recover them. Would be great if someone could supply images and I can fix the first post of this thread.
  18. 40's on an L28 in this clip. Skip to 3:11 for the good bits. It seems to go ok, but I'd say my 72 240z goes harder with the 44's and close ratio box. The 40's just run out of chop on the bigger displacement motors. https://bringatrailer.com/listing/1978-datsun-280z-40/
  19. I think many of us can relate to this rogue Tesla restoration / repair guy.
  20. Painful to use website... Here is 1 I saw the other day (didn't see it listed there). Downfall with Michael Douglas. Shame about that sunroof! And.. Back to the Future around 30 seconds in.
  21. Looks like Libre's? http://www.bre2.net/mm5/merchant.mvc?Screen=CTGY&Category_Code=bre_datsun_libre_wheels Or LeMans or very similar. https://www.bre2.net/mm5/merchant.mvc?Screen=CTGY&Store_Code=B&Category_Code=bre_datsun_lemans_wheels
  22. I was curious if the petronix ignitor worked with the stock tach. I guess it doesn't perfectly.
  23. That looks like the result of poor prep work, for it to flake like that. I can't really tell if there is a lot of body filler under there? But I guess it depends on the rest of the car, if there is an issue like that in 1 place, is it likely to be in other places also? If you start digging then you might unravel more than you intended to. These cars can be hiding a multitude of poor repair jobs over the years (due to their relatively cheap prices for many years) and owners not seeing the value in investing in doing the job right. I wouldn't invest the money in a full repaint (especially on a Uni student budget) unless you're willing to go back to bare metal and in doing so you may uncover additional repair work needed. Painting a car is expensive, so you really only want to have to do it once. If there is less than stellar previous repairs, going over it again with a nice paint job may disappoint if whatever is below the surface starts to turn sour. Not saying all this to alarm you by the way or say the car is full of bad repairs, but there is plenty of member projects here that can show what is found once a car is completely stripped back. I would opt for the smaller cheaper repair for now and see how the rest of the car holds up paint wise over the next couple of years. Then decide if it's going to need full restoration etc..
  24. Looks like it's in great shape! Love the colour too. What year is it 74/75? Does it have an amp or volt gauge? Did you do anything to disturb the tach? They often won't start without the tach hooked up. So maybe start there? My first car was a 240z and I had the yellow L plates on it too. Very fun car to learn in. Don't think I've been without an S30z since I was 17. PS: looks like someone modified the rear overrider location on the rear bumper. Interesting. Oh and where did you find this car? Do you know its history?
