Hi all,

will CAMS let you use a wooden steering wheel ie, 240Z wheel in a circuit car (240Z) or is this not a bright idea?

Cheers

Wooden steering wheels are banned under CAMS rules.

yep just found that statement on the online cams manual under schedule A&B item13 states

"Be fitted with a steering wheel not incorporating any wood, unless such is the original component of the automobile"

why no wood? is it soft or something?  ;D

On the contrary, it's  brittle and will snap when a force is applied resulting in a jagged edge, just right for impaling a chest.

Here is my beautiful, gorgeous, seductive, Nardi Anni 60... A wheel to die for!

Cheers guys will opt for the 260Z wheel then. Peter that is indeed a nice wheel, is it a replica of a GTO wheel?

Cheers.

If you catch the show Classic Racers on 7Mate right now all the GTOs and DB Astons compete with these wheels my fear would be having a finger in side the wheel when you hit a bump or curb, it'd be slice and dice.

In Vic roadworthy centres won't pass aftermarket wood rims, or sports wheels without padded centers

Without seeing the context / race category of the above quote - I would have thought a 240Z wheel in a 240Z would be OK as it is "the original component of the automobile".

Having said that, its probably easier to fit something else than risk hassles (rightly or wrongly) from the scrutineers.

No, it's the real McCoy. I picked it up off the Italian eBay... They were also used on Lancias in the 60s.

To be honest they are not very comfortable to race with (too thin and too slippery) and a lot of historic drivers replace them for actual racing.
