I would love u to give me ur thoughts on the price And all the things wrong with it, never had a z car b4 so I need all the help I can get!

I would be a bit concerned about the amount of rust that's coming through the paint, which is all fixable, for a price. I'm not sure of the roadworthy rules up there so I'm not sure how you'd go getting it registered so you could drive it around?

It does have a few goodies with it, it's just a pity that they haven't put the same amount of $$$ into the body. The car has been for sale for a while now, so not sure if there's anything that's not really showing in the pictures (although, I haven't seen the pictures of the rust when I've looked at the ad previously).

Mmmm yummy!

If that's the rust you can see (in the pictures) beware of what lies beneath.

Seller obviously loves the beach and resides in Port Melbourne. Who knows how long it has been out in the nice salty atmosphere.

Thanks heaps guys u r helping me a bucket load! Best thing I have done was join this forum!! Oh a deciding to get a z car :P

What sort of price should I be looking at?

And how much roughly to get it all fixed up?

I know I'm only new but if n e 1 is round that area could u please help me out??

Brendo,  if you can find another few grand ( ::)) then this is the one you should look very hard at. It's a coupe, so will always be more expensive than a 2+2, but it certainly suits your daily driver condition and I don't think it need anything done to it.

For what it is worth, you should buy the best car you can afford to start with.  It ALWAYS works out cheaper in the long (and short) run!!  I've spent 6K so far on a pile of holey tin!

My 2 cents.

There's a fair few 240z/260z's for sale currently on Ebay within your budget that you may want to check out. ;)

Update on original rust car.... He said he will take 7k and organise transport But I'll need to get it re registered and stamp duty.....

No, forget it, keep looking, wait until one comes up much closer to home you can investigate in close detail inside & underneath, & without emerging rust issues. 8k? Far too high for a 2+2 in this market that has been mucked around with. Add-ons always sound exciting but do not really add value, are they really improvements correctly specified & installed? Or budget substitutes for worn out factory parts?

And if you're wanting to transport your kids - I suspect the most precious things in your life - then do your whole family a big favour & buy the best Z you can find - these cars are 40 yr old technology as far as crash protection goes. Seriously. You get rear-ended or tee-boned in a Z car probably rust compromised.....they have been known to break apart. Yes, shear apart. Small car, light shell / thin body steel, basic seat belts, no air bags, primitive crash design technology if any. (Even the basic thin little bumpers have been removed on that car). Bide your time & find a far better one for that sort of money, they do come up from time to time. My 2c worth.

^^AGREE 100%^^

Mate unless it has to be an S30 you could find a Z31 Californian Turbo for that or even less if you look around, later model, heavier (reinforced) shell, better performance and look good in the pearl white with bone leather interior.

But if it has to be this shape/model then walk on away from this, my biggest concern is the reg plates which indicate to me that the current owner probably hasn't owned it very long and is just trying to get rid of a bad decision they'd made. Or they have had it for a while and simply did a 'Slap Up Sally" to move it.

As others have said regarding price $8K is high, something like this would go for around $5K< without reg and because you're transporting interstate you need to consider it unreg'd as you'll have to get it through local roadie.

Going through the "goodies" reads like a ricers shopping list I guess and would be more at home on the front door, again it's almost as if they've slapped on/in a heap of bits to move it. You don't go putting in and replacign so many bits without spending some money and time on the bodywork. The description of the rust as being "tiny bubbles" is laughable, the rust on the door looks about the size  of a fist, so either theis persons a giant or has no idea.

Oh and if this person is a member here then they should be ashamed for trying to move such a POS at this price with a description that clearly shows them as a shonk.

Am I being a bit harsh?? Only if you think that trying to profit off the back of good honest cars is right.

Posted

Maybe quite harsh, but a good point. Maybe the owner really has no idea and is going by the "pricing guidelines" in the carguides?

Benny, that car ur selling....holy hell that looks nice in black! Im after a black for mine(down the track naturally :P) with a gray on it somehow. What code is it?

Maybe we could have something on what to look for regarding prices for datsuns? Say a general rule of thumb of what to look for and a general pricing for certain Datsuns and prices regarding rust issues.

A) Not harsh at all IMHO.

B) Benny's car isn't black.

C) Too hard to do that, everycar is different. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

There is already plenty of info available  ;)

I find that difficult to believe these days, most people are pretty well educated when it comes to older cars these days seeing as every home and just about every phone these days have the internet. As for the pricing I think it's more a case of hiding in plain sight, keeping it at the lower end of the scale makes it seem like a bargain and easier to fish with.

I could be wrong but I highly doubt it.

im not trying to make excuses for him, but ill give it the benefit of the doubt till i know otherwise.

Maybe a mate of a mate who owned one years ago told him maybe 8k ;).

It is a nice colour Benny, ill be sure to look into it, thanks :).

I think i see what your getting at luvemfast :). I read a bit on here before buying mine, but i still needed Dimitri to show and explain alot to me,especially where to look for the rust.

Zeds only rust in one place  .....  anywhere where 2 or more pieces of steel join!!!!  Along the bottoms of any panel and at any seam or join or where any panel is bolted to another or anywhere where leaves and the like can gather and stay wet.  The only places you dont need to check are the seat covers, the glass and the dash - but they will rust all around where they join to steel.  Easy really  :o

Hey Brendo,

Not sure if this of any help but I own a 260z 2+2 which I'm unfortunately going to have to get rid of in the very near future as my parents are buying a house and need the money!

I bought the car from Shaun (sexualsushi) on the forum and it's currently rust free, has a newly recovered interior bar the dash and we're now just doing a full head job and gasket rekit on the engine. It hasn't got the best paint and it's actually styled like the link below (but in white with black flares, wing and fender mirrors)

Not sure if you're interested but if you're desperate and can't find one closer to home then just send me a PM! I'm so cut that I have to sell it as I only got it about 3 months ago and it was my dream car :( Just have to stick with my 280ZX! WOOO S130 REPPIN'!

Good luck in your search but just know that the option is there! I'll upload some pictures into it's build thread some time in the next month hopefully with all body work done! :D

EDIT: Sorry if some people are getting the wrong idea, I don't own the car in the link posted above, my 2+2 is just styled in a very very similar fashion! Cheeers
