I have been a member since 2007, also a donating member, I have only chocked up 50 posts as I am not an expert on Zeds, but sometimes a subject maybe something I know about such as panel beating so I will make a comment, most of the time I read the posts written by those that know what they are talking about, then you see posts put up by those that phrase there posts  in a way that courses conflict, argue with members that over the years I have come to respect for there knowledge and willingness to help others, so I would not worry it to much, they are usually gone as fast as they arrived, we know the ones that carry our  respect.

Keep up the good work.

Cheers Tony

its funny that all the people that have replied to this are the nice well mannered zed fans that make the site worth looking at .there are the people that you can ask a zed question like Scoota or lurch and you no that you will get some help , like Gordo said there are some really nice people on this site that are more than will to help ..

I take everyone on this site seriously cause I know nothing  ;D

Scoota,

I don't disagree with you about the effect the Rev had on us all - he's not dead he could pipe up any minute now ....  any minute now ....

I can only recall 3 nasty moments on this forum in the last 12 months.  If I recall correctly most of us bandied around and quelled it before the moderators had a chance to intervene.  (makes you wonder what value the moderators really are .... )

Hey, the letters are disappearing as fast as I can type them.  Stop it guys.  OK, without the moderators the world would stop turning.

That's better.

I suppose what I am saying is the etiquette (or karma if you like) of this forum was set very early on by Gav et al.  This etiquette has continued through by all of us now.  When someone stirs the pot in a nasty way, none of us are prepared to put up with it.  I like that aspect of our forum.

If you don't believe that we have a mature, community type of forum, simply look at some of the others out there.

By the way Salty, Lurch doesn't take McHappy pills; he takes angry pills.  Without them he is like a kitten that wants to play for a while, lick its bits clean and then curl up to sleep on your lap.  It's quite pathetic really - and very embarrassing at the pub!

As a relatively new member to this forum I can’t speak of the history or intent when setting it up, however I can talk about my experiences.

The forum seems a bit ‘clicky’.  If you have been on here for a long time and have met or know most of the other long time members then you’re ‘okay’.  However, if you are new a large amount of scepticism is shown by the long term members.  I can understand this.  I’m a member on other forums where I’m one of the long term members and it ‘seems’ a disproportionately large amount of the new members are annoying (not searching before posting, not asking clear and concise questions, making assertions (correct or incorrect) about long time members, etc).  Most people can only handle this for so long.  So the first 50, 100, 1000 new annoying members, you are polite to, but eventually you can get cranky and be a bit harsh (very understandable, but is it acceptable???).

I copped a bit when I joined, and I realise some of this was me and some of it was members just being jack of annoying newbies.  I don’t resent anyone for it.  I have just tried to be polite and contribute constructively in the technical section or ask concise questions.  I have now also met a couple of the Canberra guys (chris240, sco_aus, etc), and I think this helps, but I still don’t feel like I’m “accepted”, let alone appreciated or liked (not that it matters really, I’m just explaining as a newbie how the forum comes across).

Ultimately it comes down to whether you believe respect is earned or given...

Lose the Rotory in your avatar and maybe you can hang with the cool kids  :P

I think there was a stage of intolerance, but that time has passed in my opinion

Since people seem to be using this thread to compare this forum to others, I will too.

I judge a forum on the ratio of helpful posters to trolls.

There are many forums I have been to (not to do with cars) that have most highly skilled and knowledgable members in that field, but the forum has just descended into trolling. When someone posts a legitamate question, it's like a who can write the most cynical/wittiest response in the least amount of words contest. Or the question doesn't get answered.

Honestly, this forum is one of the best I've been on. There is a good balance between good information and mucking around. Since finding it my work productivity is down 40%.
