Drewpee Posted June 20, 2011 Posted June 20, 2011 Hi guys. Just wondering what I should do and am looking for advice. I purchased a Jap spec 280zx as a project for my daughter a few months back. I was hoping to tidy it up with my girl and give a paint job. My wife was against me buying it as we don't have to much of the folding stuff (I'm a full time carer of my disabled son), but I swore if it wasn't suitable for our girl I could sell it and get our money back. The problem is the guy I brought it of was supposed to drop of some spares and the transfer papers but never showed. After contacting him several times with the promise he'd come through I find out he's left town. The car is now unlicensed because of the lack of licence papers and would never get over the pits. What should I do? 1. Run away and join circus. 2. Do the car up. 3. Burn the car. 4. Hunt the guy down and park the car in his living room. 5 Buy the wife flowers and hope she forgets. Quote
Gyra Posted June 20, 2011 Posted June 20, 2011 Hey mate, sometimes life throws us a challenge. I don't know what state you're in - but I doubt the transfer papers would have saved you from needing a roadworthy anyway. First thing - run the numbers past your local road authority and make sure it isn't stolen. What condition is the car in? It might be an easier proposition than you think. These cars aren't that hard to work on, and second hand parts normally easy to find. PS you should buy your wife some flowers anyway! G Quote
Drewpee Posted June 20, 2011 Author Posted June 20, 2011 Thank for your reply. I'm in WA, so as long as the car stays licenced there's no need for road worthiness check. If there was I'd never have purchased the car. Quote
Drewpee Posted June 20, 2011 Author Posted June 20, 2011 OH, maybe I will buy her flowers. I had a look underneath and the chassis rails are stuffed. Lots of rust around the windows but the sills and doors look good. They're a great car maybe I'll put a tarp over it and push it to the corner of the shed(next to the Beetle). Quote
Quandary Posted June 20, 2011 Posted June 20, 2011 What year model is it and what parts do you need? If you get some pics up you will more than likely get some more productive advice as far as your #2 goes. Quote
. Posted June 21, 2011 Posted June 21, 2011 Hi, Normally we don't bring costs into these discussions but in this case I think knowing how much money you have tied up in the car would help us give appropriate advice. For example. if you only paid $1200 for the car then you have a fair chance of recovering your costs just by parting the car out. Another option would be to purchase another roughy and make a good car out of the two. But if the car is reasonable I would certainly check the hurdles required to get it on the road. Pictures would also help. Quote
L28 rat Posted June 22, 2011 Posted June 22, 2011 First thing i would do ,is not stress Take a chill pill (or whatever is your fancy) Tarp it up,or redirect your thoughts for a bit Then get a clear head as to whats involved in fixing it,like labour and $$$ If its what you want dont be turned of by wrecker prices Forums are a great way to source parts But IF its beyond your abilities or the cost to fix,let alone the missus moving you to the dog house And it has to go ,then so be it Quote
Drewpee Posted June 22, 2011 Author Posted June 22, 2011 Thank guys. I think I'll keep it and do her up slowly(very slowly). This forum seems to have some very friendly people so I feel a little more secure in the knowledge that such a comunity is avalable for help and advice. Wish me luck. Quote
Mr Camouflage Posted June 22, 2011 Posted June 22, 2011 How long has it been out of rego? In WA you have up to 3 months to pay after its expired, before you need to get it over the pits again. Just pay up the rego and you can drive it again...but you would need the rego papers. So if you are still within 3 months, keep hassling the guy if you have contact details. Maybe you could get him to call the rego dept and have them send you a copy of the current/expired licence papers so you can complete the transfer. Or maybe just call up the Licensing dept yourself and see what can be done if you havent already Quote
Linton Posted June 22, 2011 Posted June 22, 2011 if you are in victoria unless you have a signed sales reciept from the po you wont get it registered even if you have the rego papers at least thats how it work here and has done for years, you may have to become inventive. just something to check before spending any money Quote

Linton Posted June 23, 2011 Posted June 23, 2011 I thought a stat dec could be used to get around this yeah you are right forgot that one,, I got so much grief the last time Grrrrrrrrrrrrr Quote
zeds4ever Posted July 1, 2011 Posted July 1, 2011 If the bloke still stuffs you around, fill out a stat dec stating that the sales papers were destroyed or lost & that you can't locate the previous owner. That should get you around it hopefully. Just as a matter of interest have you had the rego title checked out by "Revs" as there's something fishy about this bloke. Good luck in your quest. Regards: Alan. Quote
kobes Posted July 1, 2011 Posted July 1, 2011 OMG Like Wow. I am they Guy that you purchased the car off. 1. yes i did say i pass on to you the spare wheel, the bonnet latch and the rego papers. and i did say i would bring them into work the next day! 2. My bad the next day i did forget to bring them into work, but from that day onwards I did have them at work for you to pickup Since you did not pick them at from me at work, i figured you did not want them. You Did Mention when purchasing the car that you where going to de-register it anyway and do it up for your daughter so i figured that is what you where going to do! 3. I am not a hard person to find, really as easy as going to the house that you picked it up from. SINCE YOU HAVE NOT PICKED UP THE PAPERS FROM ME - I recieved a $100 Fine for not handing in the plates, and not having any details for you i could not arrange to get the plates to hand them. So i went down and paid the fine and filled in a stat dec. I am more than happy to get the spare wheel to you and the bonnet latch. Just reply to me on here BTW, i have never moved town, I did go to perth for a majour surgery and thus had to leave work. Will be able to drop these off to you in around 4-5 weeks when back in geraldton from hospital. Quote
kobes Posted July 1, 2011 Posted July 1, 2011 HERE IS THE CAR IN QUESTION I BELIEVE THE FINAL PRICE WAS $500 http://www.viczcar.com/forum/index.php/topic,7888.msg75187.html#msg75187 Quote
Drewpee Posted July 2, 2011 Author Posted July 2, 2011 new owner should have transfered rego asap :'( New owner wanted to but got jerked around. Quote
Drewpee Posted July 2, 2011 Author Posted July 2, 2011 Kobes at last. I didn't know where you lived because I picked the car up from your mates house. You said that day you would have rego and parts at your work next day but you didn't. I went into your work on several occasions but only caught you the once but I did leave messages. The last time the guy said I'd better get hold of you because you were leving town. I called and messaged you on your mobile and you said you'd drop off the parts and rego but you never did. The next time I text ed and called you you didn't answer and didn't call back. By that time the car was out of rego and you had left town. The fine you got you could have avoided by finishing the deal. Your fault not mine. I said to you if the car was in good nick I mite run it out of rego but it's not. I also said if the car was in poor condition I'd clean it up and resell it but now I can't do that without papers. You had address and phone number so you can still call me and drop off the parts and rego papers. If you lost my number you can find it in our emails we set at the time of sale. I payed you on the date of sale and have been nothing but patent and polite. I should have been less trustful and waited to get all items before paying you. I'll know better next time. From your tone above you make it seen like its my fault but no its your own doing. Any more problems please PM me. Thanks again for those that offered useful advice. Andrew Quote
salty Posted July 2, 2011 Posted July 2, 2011 New owner wanted to but got jerked around. so you couldnt go to the rego office and say your the new owner but dont have the papers yet BUt want to transfer ownership. can do that in SA as long as you have foto ID.licence Quote
Drewpee Posted July 2, 2011 Author Posted July 2, 2011 No Salty in the West a car cannot be sold unless the transfer papers are filled out at the time of sale by the owner. That's why Kobey got the fine. His fault not mine. ed- The other thing is when your car runs out of rego you get a reminder. The after a time you will get a request to hand in the plates. Then you get a fine. I brought the car on EBAY and emails are sent back and forward after sale. I still have copies of the sale from EBAY and PAYPAL. Kobe also has copies on his EBAY account as well, I know because I have Checked and he is still an active member, so HE HAS MY NUMBER. THERE IS NO EXCUSE. One more thing (sorry you got me going now with you abusive tone) I inquired about opening a dispute through EBAY/PAYPAL and was told although its an unusual case, they said there was no reason I couldn't reclaim the money through PAYPAL. I chose not to do this to Kobes. Quote
peter mc Posted July 2, 2011 Posted July 2, 2011 don't fear take it apart and sell it in bits i think you will make a small profit and you can find one in better condition Quote
salty Posted July 2, 2011 Posted July 2, 2011 One more thing (sorry you got me going now with you abusive tone) you have GOT to be kidding? Quote
reverendzed Posted July 2, 2011 Posted July 2, 2011 Drewpee, probably better to air your dirty laundry privately, you have Kobes number. I can at least vouch that when Kobes purchased a vehicle from me I met nothing than a gentleman with integrity. Take a moment to at least consider that life may have got in the way for him and it's often our response to that which shows who we really are (you can flame me for that:) Time to leave it alone boys and get on with life, if this is the worst thing to happen, you are blessed my friends!
